I am looking for a locally hosted web based mail client that will work on Windows (Vista and up) as well as Linux. Right now, I use mutt (Cygwin mutt on Windows), but I was wondering if there was a simple web based client I could use. It does not need all of the fancy features of mutt, just the ability to send mail and allow me to browse my local mbox files.
View 2 RepliesRecently, my hard drive crashed. I was using XP and do not have my install discs (lost them 3 moves ago...). I make backups regularly and only lost roughly 3 days worth of material (nothing really important). On my other PC I've been running linux forever. I don't need windows and have installed a new HD in the PC and put fedora on there w/ no issues. Now historical email. There seems to be many workarounds for getting dbx files to mbox inside windows, but how would I accomplish this task without a windows install anywhere (Virtual installs are out as I do not have any install discs for windows anyways).
After a quick search, I only found one possible solution (in perl) and am looking for something that I don't have to program my self. I am a programmer by trade but have never programmed in perl (c++, FORTRAN, matlab, python... yes) and at this point, don't feel like learning new syntexs for this one problem (python has been my goto scripting language for everything linux...). Also if anyone has a link to a c++ lib(link to documentation?) that does the same thing... I might take a look at that and make a gui for it... then release it for others...
Lubuntu is nice - but it seems the LXDE version is not as up to date as Fedora LXDE Spin or even Debian squeeze with LXDE installed. I do like Chromium on Lubuntu though... its faster and a nice touch. I am looking for a lightweight 64-bit distribution for my main laptop (it is by no means "old" or "low spec" but I like that Lubuntu starts up in like 2 secs).
LXDE version seems not to be recent (esp in 10.04 version which seems to work more stably for me - with Nvidia drivers etc)64 bit install is currently a pain - requires first install of minimal CD or alternate CD both of which required wired Ethernet, then install of lubuntu from PPA. Native 64-bit support would be nice. Linux Mint LXDE, for example, is also only 32-bit.
I vae Ubuntu, postfix. I need to forward e-mail based on sender. Can I do it with .forward ?
E-mail that comes from user@yahoo.com destined to user@mydomain.com to be forwarded to user@gmail.com. Other e-mail that comes from any addresse must not be forwarded.

But hearing lot of linux improvements,I thought Ubuntu/Fedora/Suse over past few years must have become equivalent to XP. Friends of mine use Fedora in office. So got Live CD and installed . Installed fine but my monitor resolution only displayed 800x600. (highest possible). Thought that since Linux runs on mobile it can very well run on my Old Computer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an email server running postfix and popa3d under Debian. I have mailboxes in mbox (single file) format per user in /var/mail/username. I had my own mailbox get too many messages so popa3d refused to process per a compiled in security / anti-DOS limit, so I moved to /var/mail/username_bak. What is the best way to start moving the messages from /var/mail/username_bak to /var/mail/username? I do not see any utilities included with postfix or popa3d that do this, but I am hoping there are generic mbox utilities to easily do this.

I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if at all possible. I've been using HyperMail to archive my email in HTML format, but the results aren't searchable. I figure that once it's all in MySQL I can write some simple queries to accomplish this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried openoffice but the mail merge is a nightmare to use and when eventually I managed to get something out of it instead of one page linked to a database it produced a separate page for each plus a blank page! I did manage to do something with openoffice database using a form letter but that was also a nightmare to do!
I tried Koffice which is supposed to have mail merge but nothing appeared on the Tools menu as the manual says it should. At the moment I am using MS office 2003 under Wine which works fine and does exactly what I want, only thing I don't seem able to do is install any of the service packs, any suggestions for that? Preferably I would like a Linux based word processor, does anyone know of one that has functioning mail merge?
This has been driving me absolutely crazy for a few days now. I have an e-mail. If I send it from a Windows Server 2003 server via MailEnable, a certain person receives it using Outlook 2003 just fine. If, however, I send the exact same message from an Ubuntu 10 server using SSMTP to relay the e-mail to the exact same MailEnable queue, the recipient receives a messed-up-looking e-mail. There are all kinds of "= " all over the place. The exact same e-mail looks fine on my Ubuntu computer, as well as my Mac, and all of the Windows/Mac computers here at work. Here is an excerpt from the copy they receive:

I have tried testing this on an in-house netbook, running XP and Outlook 2003, same as them, and it looks fine. Unfortunately though, it's happening for more than one person, with different companies, in different states. Is it maybe an Outlook thing? Or a firewall?

Unfortunately, these files are one (very) large concatenation of email text+attachments which are very inconvenient when searching for a lost email. Question:how to backup emails from within Kmail? And, yes, I did read the Kmail manual cover-to-cover and found nothing relevant.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI used Unison to sync my desktop and laptop. Now I am getting the following error when I open my Evolution Inbox (and a few of my other mailbox folders).
"Error while Opening folder mbox:/home/myname/.evolution/mail/local#Archive/foldername"
"column folder_name is not unique"
I have tried moving the .evolution/local/mail folder opening Evolution, closing and then moving back - no joy. It is also definitely not a folder size problem, my mailbox is less than 1GB.
Opening Evolution from the terminal I get;
