Each time someone with a mail account tries to send something to a Yahoo! address, the email stays stuck in the mail queue and a 'delayed mail (still trying)' message is sent back to the user. I understand that Yahoo! has a tendency to block mail servers on a whim, but what I'd like to know is, how can I prevent Postfix from specifically retrying to send emails to Yahoo! mail servers? I don't want to stop retries to other mail servers.

Jun 1, 2011I have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports?When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail.Here's the error in mail.log.

Jan 1, 2010By gross mistake I delated ALL my emails in my gmail account. I did this from thunderbird 3 so I deleted emails in the computer and the server. Fortunately my home folder still has the thunderbird 2 folder and and weighs 1.5 gigas with files callled inbox and sent mail weighting hundred of megas, so my emails ARE there.Problem is, when I open Thunderbird 2 the emails don't appear there. How can I get them back and into Google servers too?

Jul 12, 2011Using Thunderbird 3.1.10 and no longer can see copies of my sent messages in the Sent Folder. I tried to tick the box in account settings to save a copy and it would not take the change. What I did notice is that the e-mails sent are being received on the other end, but I do not have a copy in the Sent folder. It seems as though my e-mail account has been hijacked, and I changed my e-mail account password as a precaution. I am also getting e-mail BACK in my in box that I sent to other people. My AT&T account uses yahoo and my account through AT&T was originally bellsouth.net What can I do to make sure I get a copy of all of my e-mail sent out?

Mar 25, 2011I'm trying to set up my Thunderbird 3.1.8 (running on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS) to play a .wav file of my choice when new mail arrives. The file I've chosen is 8,8 KB in size and lasts 3 seconds. I've selected the "Play a sound" + "Use the following sound file" options in my Preferences, but only the first second (if that) of the sound gets played - both when I click the "Play" button in the Preferences menu to test it, as well as when receiving mail. Restarting the program with my new settings doesn't help.
Actual question(s):
- Is there a limit on the size/duration of the sound one can use for such a signal in this program?
- Is there any way to modify this limit?

Ubuntu :: Get Pidgin To Use Mail Notification Applet For New Emails?
Apr 25, 2011I run Ubuntu with Unity. I see a Mail Notification applet in the tray that announces unread mail (from Evolution) and incoming IMs from Empathy. I uninstalled both programs, and replaced the IM program with Pidgin. (I don't have a preferred email client yet.)
Now Pidgin lets me know whether I have received new email messages from the services it is connected to. These notifications show up in the Buddy List window. Is there a way to get Pidgin to use the Mail Notification applet instead? I read in their site that "Pidgin was not designed to be an email client" but it would seem that all the pieces are in place to reroute those notifications to the mail notification applet.
Optionally, it would also be cool if when I clicked on those notifications, a browser window would open up to the webmail account the notification came from. (I have both Windows Live and Gmail accounts.)

Aug 13, 2010I recently decided to switch back to a stand alone email client from gmail. I started with thunderbird, which had a very intuitive user interface and was working fairly well, except for the fact that when it wasn't supposed to be doing anything, it was taking up about 40% of my CPU (this is after it had downloaded all the emails, so there really wasn't anything that needed that much cpu usage from my perspective). After investigating that a bit, I decided I'm going to go for something lighter, and now I'm trying to claws-mail. This one is fast and quick, with very little bells and whistle, and I think it has the potential of keeping me happy.
However, there are few things that I can't figure out how to do. The two main ones right now are: How do I make it download all the emails in at least the inbox folder? I'm using imap protocol with gmail, and I'm happy that the two mailboxes are very well synced, however the only thing it is downloaded by default is the email header, and not the content. I would like to be able to download the content immediately, so I can read the email offline as well. How can I set up GPG to sign my emails automatically? In claws-mail to sign my emails, I need to go to the Options->Privacy Options->PGP Mime, followed by Options->Sign. Is it possible to make this the default option?

Jan 12, 2011It is the strangest thing. I can not receive emails on this server after it has been up for an hour. I noticed that everytime and email is received that a sshd opens but never closes. Causeing a memory issue that I dont know how to fix. Also the mailq grows and grows. Mostly with email stating the recipient and send are both [URL].. also postmaster@mail.jmchd.com shows mail system configuration error. I have to restart the server every 30 minutes so users can get and send emails. This is horrible because for every 5 minutes out of the hour emails are bouncing.i have looked through them but I know not what I am looking at.
PS. I was thrown into the position and have limited knowledge. I am used to a GUI.

- Get Mail extension (v3.3.4),
- Thunderbird (3.1.1)
Problem:
Clicking "Read Mail" does nothing, whereas clicking "Compose Message" opens Thunderbird as expected. Thunderbird is properly configured under "System Settings > Default Apps > Email Client".
Whereas, switching the default email client back to Kmail results in the Get Mail "read mail" and "compose message" functions properly opening Kmail in both instances.
This problem occurred for me before (when using openSUSE v11.1 and earlier versions of the apps), but I don't recall how I eventually solved it, or whether it was resolved via an update of one of the above apps/extensions. Nonetheless, I'm now confronted by the very same problem again.

Apr 5, 2011My wife has decided to give linux a try. I've installed Mint Linux 10 for her.Last week (bad timing) I converted her to Thunderbird. Now I have the task of moving all her mail folders and account settings from Thunderbird under Windows 7 to Thunderbird under linux.Other postings say all I have to do is copy the Windows profile directory to her home directory and rename it .thunderbird.
Doesn't work. When I start Thunderbird all it displays is a window for new account details.I tried just copying the <gibberish>.default directory across and renaming it to the one that was there. Again, no luck.Before it started using sqlite things were simple!I backed up with MozBackup, and then noticed that it only works with Windows.
