I can't play mp3 from Rhythmbox music player, it says MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) decoder plugin required, and also I can't play mp4 from movie player it says h.264 decoder and MPEG-4 AAC decoder plugin required. what a joke!!! can you imagine for a newbie and for the first time like me use linux operating system find something like that.

I am in verse to compile a new kernel 2.6.34-rc5 on RHEL 6 Beta.I have been following [URL] for the same. how can i select all the options during :

I just saved it under .config and when I ran : make modules it threw errro saying "modules not included". So i want to select complete options during make xconfig.
Recently RHEL 6 Beta 2 released and I want to install it through kickstart but it stucked at one time while Re-initializing the disk partition. If I manually click on "Re-initialize All" it goes fine but I am in verse to ignore the message box and proceed automatically through kickstart. Anyone who have come across this issue?

Now we expect it to be shipped with RHEL 6 Beta 2. How can I track the same beforehand. Is there any repository where can I track whether they have plan to ship it or not?

I called them and they are not able to help me instlling this client applicatoin for me on my Ubuntu. "I cannot go online untill I install this ISP client application on my Ubuntu." Environment: A 32-bit kernel RHEL5.3 system running on a virtual machine. The root(/) filesystem is on an LV.
Issue: Unable to resize the FS after extending the root LV since it is mounted. After extending the LV, online resizing of the FS was not supported and the root filesystem could not be unmounted while it was in use. On rebooting, I got a kernel panic error. In runlevel 1, I couldn't run chroot, couldn't find the /etc/fstab, root FS could not be mounted, fsck did not run (tried block 31 for second copy of superblock using dd count=1 bs=4k skip=31 seek=1 if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sda2), couldn't find any rpm on installation media to install unix-utils rpm. I have installed RHEL 4 32 - bit on sda3 and after that , installed installed RHEL 64-bit on to a partition sda 5. Now i am unable to boot into RHEL 32-bit. I want to install RHEL 5 on it, but media didn't boot in graphic mode,when i was completing the installation steps( all in text mode) at the end I see only a command line ( username logine)
I tried other distributions and other RHEL versions that I have ( for checking my laptop) and the result become fallow in brief:
RHEL 5.3: only boot in text mode
RHEL 5.5: only boot in text mode
fedora 8: boot and install in graphic mode
fedora 8:doesn't boot
fedora 10: boot and install in graphic
oracle red hat enterprise 4.4:boot and install in graphic mode( but I don't like this)
I need only RHEL 5 distribution on my laptop and I check the others for checking my laptop, please answer in simple manner,I'm not an advanced user

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying out 10.04 LTS 64-bit from the live CD and when I try to play a MP3 or WAV file it gets the usual Search for suitable plugin? "The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a plugin that supports the selected file? The search will also include software which is not officially supported." Error message so I click Search and it comes up with the error No packages with the requested plugins found.
Is this because it is in Live Mode and installing 10.04 to my hard drive will fix it or does Ubuntu no longer support audio files other then ogg and other open source audio / video file formats due to copyright problems?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a multi-partition USB key to use to kick multiple OS's whenever I need (1 NTFS partition for Windows image and data storage, one ext3 for boot, another ext3 for Linux distros iso storage and the last one as a Fedora live usb with permanent storage).
I am using a Kingston Data Traveler G2 16GB usb key and I have absolutely no problem to create the partitions and all looks fine. The problem I encounter is that although I can format the 1st partition on the usd key to any fs I want, I am unable to do the same on the other partitions. I tried fdisk+mkfs.XXX (ext2, ext3, fat, vfat, ntfs) and gparted, and no luck.
mkfs.XXX gives me no errors when I run it but when I try to mount the partition in Fedora 14 the OS is unable detect the fs. Gparted allows me to format the fs, gives no errors, shows a format successful message, but when it re-scans the device the fs appears as unknown.
I know it is possible to do this as I had a DataTraveler 101 16GB and it was working fine until I lost it.
Recently i upgraded my dvd writer from pata to sata, now i install LG sata dvd writer into my system, now my problem is that its unable to detect in my fedora 8 box , but i can successfully boot fedora 8 from this dvd writer.i have a kernel version 2.6.23. solution for this.

I've installed all of the gstreamer plugins, xine-extra-libs and libdvdcss, all of the ones that are suggested. Yet I still cannot play a DVD with VLC. I was wandering if you could help me diagnose why?

On my new laptop I want to try the most updated fedora 64bit. but I could not install mplayer or ffmpeg.

but there's no sound. I tried to play a 45 minutes rmvb, but the progress bar quickly marched to the end within 3 seconds, no sound, no video either.
I removed kmplayer then reinstalled it, but problem is not solved. so what's wrong?
