I just got my new ubuntu 9.10 os desktop version installed into my lenovo laptop but then my WiFi is not working. Previously I had a broadcom driver which currently is not functioning with the ubuntu 9.10.

I have an emachines D620 laptop running Ubuntu 10.10 with a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01). I havent done anything with it and cant seem to get it to work. I know this because when I had visto on it the card worked, but know it says that its firmware is not enabled and ive tried installing the drivers using the Additional Drivers under Administration. I would like it to be working so I can use my laptop's internet.

I didn't want to bother anyone with this, but I just could't find a solution. I was happy using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop Edition, because the wifi was working fine, but I messed everything up dealing with networking in terminal.
So formated and now I have Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition, but that didn't solved my problem at all, because my wifi driver still unfunctional.
Before anything, I tried commands like "dbus restart" and "network restart".
So after reading that I can install by getting ndisgtk and the .inf file, I downloaded the right driver from HP Support's page of my notebook. Extracted the package with Wine (got some error because I wasn't running Win7, of course, but that doesn't matter.).

View 1 Replies View Relatedok basically i have a new dell inspiron n5010 with a broadcom 4313 wifi card. it doesnt work with ubuntu studio 10.10. I have the drivers all installed and it works on ethernet with the broadcom STA proprietry driver. if i disable this driver the eth doesnt work. but the driver shows its working (screenshot-1).
There is no pop up or anything in the task bar for detected wifi. i open the network settings and it shows up with a wifi option but i have to go into properties and manually type in what i have "the_den_meribel". which didn't work. (screenshot-2).
i have tried the other driver broadcom-sta-common and that doesnt make it work either. screenshot-3. i did try to install the "lp-pphhy" or whatever it is (seacrh for firmware-b43 in synaptic).

I just installed the 64-bit Kubuntu 11.04 and i've been having some issues getting the wifi to work. At first I went to additional drivers and activated the STA driver and restarted. After restarting when I went into the network manager and any option for wireless was disabled.

I just deleted my windows XP and installed Ubuntu 9.10 earlier this morning. I used wired connection to get drivers for my wireless network card.
When I did lspci, the very last line states:
Network Controller: Broadcom Coporation BCM4311 902.11b/g WLAN(rev 01)
I used the System -> Administration -> Hardware Driver and found 2 drivers. I have tried them both to connect to my D-Link Router. Neither of which worked.
For Broadcom B43 Driver, the wireless is able to detect wireless networks. However, it fails to establish connection.
For Broadcom STA Driver, the wireless cannot even detect wireless networks available.
What is the issue here and how do I resolve it so that I am able to connect onto the internet wirelessly?
When I freshly installed my Ubuntu 10.04, broadcom wireless worked after I installed the driver using hardware manager. But somehow it got de-activated, and not its not working. I need help related to that. Here is some output which might help you to understand the problem.

I applied the latest updates today and when I rebooted, My wireless broadcom driver is not working and the ifconfig does not list it either anymore, was working 8 min ago but is now dead. If I turn off the wireless with a switch and back on, I get a blue light but it remains disabled and greyed out on the network icon. Ubuntu 10.04, latest updates applied daily. I removed the driver and reinstalled it, it did not help at all. Also, my Truecryt gdecrypt stopped working.
Update: it seems the wireless switch on the front of the laptop is now working backwards, in checking the daemon log I found Turning off the wifi so the light goes out:

Update, I found that if I boot the laptop up with the networking switch off, then, after I'm booted up, turn it on, it works. However if I reboot the laptop with the network switch in the on position I get the above issue with the switch being inverted and not working properly.
I have bought a new Dell Studio XPS Desktop with Broadcom BCM57788 network card. The installation of the tg3 driver from Dell was done according to Documentation
But still, the network card is not there. When I call ifconfig, there is only "lo" and no "eth". In Yast it says that the Netlink BCM57788 card cannot be configured because the firmware is missing. I also already did modprobe tg3 and rmmod tg3.
BTW, I have installed OpenSuse 11.2 x32 which is Linux 2.6.31.5.

Currently I'm running Ubuntu 10.10, Kernel 2.5.35-29-generic. I have a Broadcom 4318 for my WLAN and a Broadcom 4401-B0 for my ethernet. I followed the tutorial and I managed to get packet injection working on my WLAN; however, my ethernet connection isn't working. I tried sudo modeprobe b44, but I get the following message:

just installed it with a duel boot with windows, installed it using a live boot cd that i burned. seems like everything is good except i have no wifi i tried to do an update and possibly get the fix and i get an error when trying to install the updates..looks like i have more issues than i thought.. did i mess up by installing from the live cd?

I decided to use the STA wireless driver in my Ubuntu 10.04, and my connection actually became faster! Only problem is that it keeps on asking for my wifi password. I didn't have this kind of problem when I was using the b43 wireless driver - it just automatically connects everytime I reboot. how I can make my laptop stop asking for my password everytime I reboot?

The problem seems to be with the installation method I have used. I burned the ISO file properly onto a CD, but I did not install through the disk boot-up method. The reason for this is because I couldn't partition my HDD correctly (I am trying to dual boot with the Windows 7 OS already installed). Wireless isn't working in ubuntu, so I have to install Broadcom STA proprietary wireless driver and it works fine in ubuntu. when I reboot into windows, to my shock, hardware isn't been recognised in windows. This is not first time I experienced it. I had same problem when i installed nvidia drivers on another dell precision. Its graphics got screwed and never been recovered. I tried re installing windows but problem still persists.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems installing the drivers after doing an install using WUBI.I no longer have the installation disc for 10.10 as I had to reformat my HD after having problems with my Win7 and Ubuntu installation (on separate partitions), so I did this set up so they can co-exist better on the single HD. It's a bit of a long story, so that's the short version.My particular problem is that I am unable to install the drivers needed because I had let WUBI download the disc and after installation I couldn't locate it on my HD. It must have been removed right after installation. I have a copy of the contents on a bootable USB, but I don't know how to point the system/repository to it. So I'm sure I have the all the required materials to make this happen. I just don't know how.
I've located the driver in the media/usb/pool/restricted/ folder, but synaptic/software installer insists on downloading the dependencies even if I don't have internet. I checked the CDROM option of in the repositories panel, but it can't locate the disc.Can anyone tell me which dependency files are needed and the command to install them, if need be. I'm so sorry. I'm currently double-booted with XP on a Dell Latitude E5400 laptop. I'm in Windows right now. I can't post my lpsci readout because I can't access the internet from Ubuntu -- no access to wired connection.
I worked on this problem for a long time last night and fixed it somehow by installing a driver program -- it had "cutter" in the name. Today, however, I try to log in and Ubuntu won't connect to an open wifi point. Boot #1 it recognized it but wouldn't connect. Boot #2 it wouldn't recognize it at all (said "wireless is disabled" even though it wasn't. Boot #3 it would recognize the wifi point but wouldn't connect.) I can mantain a constant connection to this wifi in Windows XP and also on my Android phone.
I just want someone to please tell me how to get my wifi working reliably. I'm excited to switch over to Ubuntu, all I need is for the wifi to work. My wifi card is a Broadcom 43xx (4312?). Something like that.
My 4 yr old Dell XPS 400 has a nVidia GeForce 7300 LE card which won't run Unity as is. How do I determine without actually attempting to install 11.04 if there is an updated driver available that will allow this machine to run Unity?
