For years I have used a Slax live CD on a laptop to clone internal HDDs to USB HDDs. I recently purchased a Sony VPCF136FM laptop with Intel Core i7 CPU. It apparently has USB 3.0 ports. The problem is the USB ports are dead with Slax. There is a USB devise driver available for Windows 7 from Sony but nothing for Linux operating systems. Can this driver be ported to Linux? It is an exacutable (XXX.exe). The chip for the USB Host is from Renesas Electronics (no help there, either). Where can I find a device driver to use with Slax and how would I install it?

How to disable dhclient on redhat host.

I am attempting to load CentOS 5 on an Acer 6900 desktop and I'm not even getting out of the starting gate. I am familiar with using linux but not the install procedure which is why I am beginning to dive into this. However, when I bring the system up off the Linux boot disk and go to install it's not even giving me the option of the controller so I can begin installing the os from the dvd-rom. This is what acer lists as the controller for the 6900: ich8 serial ata storage controller 2820 linux driver. I cannot find this driver for linux anywhere.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI posted a topic earlier, mostly about my wireless, but the sound problem I mentioned having on Ubuntu seems to have followed me to Fedora. From the information I've gathered, it appears to be due to Pulseaudio. Basically, I'm not very adept with Linux info outside the ordinary terminal commands for yum, sudo, yast, etc and I need to be able to either completely remove pulseaudio or disable it entirely somehow. From my experience on Ubuntu, just muting or disabling sound won't fix a thing... This problem doesn't seem to exist for me on Windows (though it would take a lot more than this to make me bother with that again), so I'm guessing it isn't anything too critical to fix (like a hardware problem or whatever else).
solve this little nightmare and remove or disable pulseaudio? Between the two sounds (a sort of buzzing for no real reason and a slight popping when some sound effects happen), I'm in a pretty annoying position.
My laptop screen suddenly fails to show anything else than a black screen. Hence I would like to connect it to another external screen in order to debug and/or data backup for a new computer.When I connect it to an external screen and boot the system (Fedora 13) I see the different services getting started succesfully on the screen. In the end of the boot procedure usually my proprietary Nvidia driver loads (recognized by the big Nvidia logo) - but this fails to show up on the external display. So from the point where the Nvidia driver usually loads I have no working display.
I think I know why. It's because I installed a proprietary Nvidia driver and saved the configuration in Xorg.conf - and the saved configuration does not include this particular external display. So now the driver insist on starting on the non-functional laptop display.
Here comes the question: can I somehow stall the boot process (while it is shown on the external display) and disable the driver (and delete the Xorg.conf file)?
At the school i work in i have a server2k3 server that provides a domain to all the windows clients, aswell as a fedora server that acts as an imaging machine and webserver.
Im rather concious of the fact that if for any reason the Server2k3 server was to die there is no backup of active directory, or anything that can take its place whilst a replacement is found.
So is it possible to use a fedora machine with samba as a secondary domain controller? so it can be used as a login server, and has a copy of AD.
Nouveau won't go away.I done the rdblacklist in grub and blacklist in modprobe.d but it still persists.Is there something else I need to for Fedora 15?

VT6421 IDE RAID Controller (rev 50) The drivers that come with it appear to have been compiled against an old kernel (I'm guessing). When I try to load them I get invalid module format. dmesg shows this: viamraid: version magic '2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.0' should be '2.6.27.7-smp SMP mod_unload Does anyone know of a way to get this to work? I found the source for this, but it appears to only support Fedora, Mandrak, and RedHat. I can't get it to compile or make a driver disk.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt has been haunting me for weeks and I haven't been able to fix it so far: When I installed the wireless driver 43XX series on my laptop using a wired internet, I saw the wireless network for a while and after I rebooted my system, My kernel(31) got corrupted and I got error "kernel Panic (and some sync error)",Thus I started using an older kernel(14),Now When I install wireless driver or mobile broadband driver(wvdial), they get vanished after the reboot and my mobile device modem isn't detected.But they are installed in my system(as shown by synaptic package manager but doesn't seemt to work) I desperately want to use mobile broadband.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed the latest version of Mint xfce on my old inspiron 8000 with a microsoft MN-120 pci ethernet card, and though the card shows up as hardware, it is not recognized as a network interface. I believe there is no driver loaded for it.
It's an old card, but it seems the kernel still supports it. There are instructions for activating the dc driver that appears to be the proper driver for this chip set, but those instructions originated from freebsd and I'm not sure they translate well. See here:[URL]
I did find a kernel config file, but I was afraid to add the suggested lines to it because there were no other lines specifying "devices". They all started with "config".
i am having issues with networking on a certain liveCD.all ubuntu installs ive done on this machine im sure work fine, but i may have had issues with older backtrack versions.My issue is no networking on boot of SamuraiWTF, for those unfamiliar its based on ubuntu 9.04 There is nothing except lo loopback when i run 'ifconfig', and there is nothing in /etc/network/interfaces for eth0 either.
lspci shows a Broadcom driver, but the same command shows the model number etc on a newer ubuntu install on the same machine. This is:

I have the latest .tar.gz of the tg3 drivers suggested by Broadcom, but im lost on how to install them.

EDIT: it seems to be an issue with earlier kernels, i installed 2.6.35 and it worked but the kernel isnt mean for 9.04 i dont think, and now theres issues with the nvidia card

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe driver has crashed X and before I had a chance to find RPMfusion instructions on dealing with initrd, I removed the package just to keep X running.Uninstalling the package does not restore kernel and Xorg operation. I am still in VESA mode.Although they claim they don't put stuff in non-standard places and use RPM, still there is something left over, as nuoveau driver no longer loads.Now that system configuration is all over the place, it is not clear what they actually changed or replaced.

Can do nothing with the PC. New install of 10.04 and was prompted to install Nvidia driver. Did so. Rebooted, now have nothing except a thin line at top of screen. How can I remove this driver when I see nothing?

Currently I'm running Ubuntu 10.10, Kernel 2.5.35-29-generic. I have a Broadcom 4318 for my WLAN and a Broadcom 4401-B0 for my ethernet. I followed the tutorial and I managed to get packet injection working on my WLAN; however, my ethernet connection isn't working. I tried sudo modeprobe b44, but I get the following message:

I have an ASUS P5Q PRO motherboard with an integrated Atheros AR8121/AR8113 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.I installed Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid" 64bit Kernel version 2.6.32.21 I have read that the driver isn't in the kernel, but there's a strange thing :
First if I try to run lspci from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.
Second If I try to run lshw -C network from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.
Third if I run ifconfig it only returns my loopback address.
Can I suppose that my Ethernet Intel Gigabit Controller is broken or that Atheros driver is missing?
I am unable to find Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Ethernet Controller driver for CentOS which is installed on my netbook.
I contacted DELL to provide me the driver and they said that they do not support Linux on netbook and I have to arrange it myself.
I told them that I don't need help in installing I just need the driver file to which they said that they don't have driver for Linux.
NIC is getting detected and works fine on the same netbook (Am dual booting Windows7/CentOS) with Windows7
When I type: ls -l /dev/ it does not show up eth0. Same result with ifconfig. When I type lspci | grep net it does show up something like Atheros Communications AR8132 L1 PCI Gigabit .

I've made a virtual host to host a simple static site which I dont want SSL for.
When I try and get to the site it redirects me to [url] which gives a certifcate error and shows the site from example 1.

Just put 11.4, 32 bit on a system with an Intel D865 GLC motherboard and 865G built in graphics controller. While the install went OK it turns out that X is totally hosed. After fighting with things for a while and discovering that Sax2 had disappeared I poked at Google and discovered some other poor folks that have had similar issues with Intel video cards. Based on a suggestion for a doc in OpenSuse.org I edited the file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf
and added the line: Driver "intel" to it - after that things got better. Obviously the install process had not identified the video card correctly. I'm now left with another issue - while the system now identifies the driver and can talk to the monitor correctly, a Samsung S23A350H I can't open a window after X comes up and I login - basically the same issue as the unresolved Bug 673873: [Bug 673873] intel [865G] Windows flash rapidly or don't appear if Desktop Effects are on in KDE and GNOME
The workaround is to turn Desktop Effects off but since X doesn't work I can't figure out how to do that. I can't find the gnome-xgl-switch or a xgl-switch that used to exist to do it on the command line so that's out. Someone said you could drop the empty file "disable-compiz" in the ~/.config/compiz directory and that would do it but in 11.4 that directory doesn't exist. how to disable "Desktop Effects"/XGL/compiz or whatever it is now called on the command line in OpenSuse 11.4 without a gui if that is still possible?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI can not get the node or cloud controllers to startup using the init.d scripts. I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.4 with Eucalyptus 1.6.2 I have compiled Eucalyptus and all packages using the RPM supplied from Eucalyptus and utilizing yum installer. I do not currently have any processes or applications listening currently on the ports on the boxes as well. I think it may be a permissions issue or something because I get a "permission denied error", but I am not sure if it is Eucalyptus or CentOS. It looks as if it is not binding to the address on the interface of the NIC. It may be something else however. I have the Node controller, Cloud controller, and Cluster controller on seperate physical boxes. When I try to run either the cloud controller or the node controller I get this message:

Basically i want it so that the analogue stick on my PS2 controller, which connects via a USB adaptor and is recognized, correctly controls in game characters. It seems to work fine enough in platformers, at least it does with Banjo Kazooie, but with games like perfect Dark it seem to be trying to move forward and look down at the same time, also backward and look up simultaneously and look sideways and move sideways simultaneously , rendering the game all but unplayable.
I have tried running jscal and, apart from the fact that it seems a bit beyond me, it reports "jscal: missing devicename" when i try to run "jscal -c". Do others out there have there analogue sticks working correctly with games like Perfect Dark, or the James Bond games, for example?
I need to delete all files inside remote directory using ssh P.S. The directory must not be deleted, so @Wes answer is not what I need. If it would be local dir, I would run "rm -rf dir/*"
