I have downloaded the ISO onto a DVD-RW and when i pop it into my Acer laptop it works and shows that there are 34 files but when i put it into my gateway laptop it doesn't read it and nothing is showing up on the CD?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have it at lot that when a system crashes fatally and restarts (due to a power outage, kernel panic, tripping over a cord or something), there is no mention of it in the log. It just shows that the system was started. Is there a tool that will show this in the log? With a message like "system was not shut down properly or had a fatal crash / kernel panic" when restarting? It is pretty easy to do, just have a lock file somewhere that is removed when the system shuts down gracefully and that is left when it is not. And mechanism that checks this when starting up. It would also be possible to tell when the crash occured, as you can update the lock file from time to time and when the systems dies, it cannot anymore.

Our webmail connection is segregated behind Forefront, so it was not connecting/authing that way. Even though smartphones have no problem. (sidenote, is there an activesync linux mail client ?)
I have many root folders and several folders underneath my inbox. total mailsize in inbox is 3.5 GB without subfolders. The sent is likewise as large. And is likewise empty.

I've been a Java developer for some time now and I always wind up removing a bunch of stuff from /etc/alternatives in favor of one of several freshly downloaded official Sun JDKs I've installed myself. I don't like circumventing things unnecessarily, though and I also don't like "re-inventing the wheel", either. If I had a better idea of how that system worked, perhaps it would not be required. I mean I usually write a script to switch between jdk's for different projects but perhaps I would not need a script if I knew how this worked

I've rebooted already, but that didn't help at all. I would like to start using TOR as an experiment and to remain anonymous. Sure, there's HideMyAss! add-on for Google Chrome, but I just want to try it all out. Can someone help me?

So I thought I had to start from somewhere. I always tried to read it but haven't got much luck with it. So I have few problems to ask. I am confused and I really want to know how can I use version control in my context and how will my working environment change with it.
I have Linux VPS Server. I use capnel/whm to create sites in php/joomla. So is version control a software or script which I can install on my linux box like ./configure. Or I have to install it on every site like any framework I use Dreamweaver to edit files via FTP. Now if I install version control then do I still use same method to edit files or then method gets chnaged What about the database like MySQL will it stays same or its also version controlled Will version control make my system slow and how much space it uses on my server.

I recently installed FC14 on my system as I was previously on FC8. Everything seems to be working fine, but I ran into an issue today where I wanted to kill firefox. I checked in gnome system monitor and I did not see a running process for firefox or firefox-bin. I also ran a "ps -e" command from a terminal as root and did not see it there either. I don't know if this is a fedora issue or a firefox issue, so I am posting it here first.
And just to vent on something that IS a firefox issue. I have the new firefox 4 running and when I click the X in the top corner, it doesn't give me the option to save my current tabs and exit like the previous versions did. That was a feature I liked.

I read the manual for systemD and systemctl, and I could not see a way to display the dependencies of local-fs.target. My system hangs at boot, somewhere before the local-fs.target completes. Not only do I know know what is failing, I don't know what it is trying to do.I can boot to the emergency target. But that does not trigger the problem. I have the logging options on, but it FREEZES when I try the local-fs.target, so I never get to open the logs. I'd like to know what it is trying to do, so I can step through manually.
I boot to emergency. Manually start each local-fs.target.wants/* then local-fs.target It waits a long tome for something, then it "works" but does not mount my lvm filesystems. I try again for default.target, and this time local-fs.target fails with a dependency, and the system hangs again. syslog is not available at the time of the hang. What ever is the first fail, is lost when the console scrolls.I's looking a lot like I must do a full reinstall of this system.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a very simple php web application deployed on linux (centOS4) machine. It creates a file and stores the file in /tmp folder on my linux machine. The path for this file is specified in the href attribute of the link. Ideally when we click this link the download manager should pop up so that the file can be downloaded on client machine.
When i access this website remotely from my window xp machine on firefox it downloads the file properly but when i run on internet explorer (i have IE7 on my windows XP) and click the link, the download manager does'nt pop's up. even when i right-click that link and select save as, an error message pop's up saying "file path not found". possibly IE is not able to determine the linux file path .so how do i work around this. is there some specific way for specifying the linux file paths to be downloaded by IE?
I can't seem to get my adapter to work on my Debian Squeeze system. I have the wpc54g linksys notebook adapter and disk... but the disk will not autorun...I have gotten as far as to the adapter being activated, shows connection 97%, but I can't surf!

The installation completed successfully but after that the bootloader doesn't show after the system reboot. So it is just black screen. I have an option for booting Debian (which will go to a black screen) and go to command line which looks like command prompt in Windows. I tried going to the command and it shows

I don't know which command to input since I'm a newbie and not familiar with Linux. I installed Debian from USB using unetbootin. What I should do to successfully install Debian?
