Applications :: Gui That Runs Perl Programs - Or Windows?
Jul 7, 2009I ve been writing perl scripts for testing.( i am into telecom testing) I require a gui based tool where in the scripts can be loaded and run with one click of mouse? GTK is one option i got. But anyone knows any tool which is more user friendly, require less tweaking around for the set-up and is somewhat readymade for running perl scripts? And which is open source and can be downloaded from internet?

Feb 2, 2010I was wondering if torrents and torrent programs don't work as well in Linux compared to Windows.I have used them in the past but all of a sudden, nothing would work in my Kubuntu install. Absolutely nothing would start. I tried different configurations, settings, but nothing. I left it alone and rebooted and started up XP. I installed Azureus and I didn't do nothing else.I didn't even configure Azureus and left the router settings.I was able to start a download.I've used KTorrent (default) and Azureus before.

Aug 24, 2010I want to do a clean re-install of Windows 7 but there are files and installed programs which need to be backed up and restored. I tried using the Windows 7 backup utility to do a full backup to an external usb drive. The problem is that whenever the backup gets close to finishing, it always crashes. The system I am backing up has been compromised by viruses, which might be causing this. I already used several utilities to get rid of the viruses but some of the damage they did can not be undone. I tried doing the backup in safe mode but Windows 7 does not allow this. What other methods can I use to backup and restore important programs and files on Windows 7? Perhaps there is a way to do it from outside Windows 7, like say, using a Linux live cd? One of the main problems I see is restoring installed programs since those make use of the registry so simply copying the files probably won't work.

May 21, 2010I'm extremely new to linux I've been a mac user for 6 years but recently purchased a new laptop that has windows 7 and immediately made the switch to ubuntu 10.04 after reading very good things. Problem is I like what I see very much but have no idea what the heck I'm doing and have ran into some problems.
1 How do you delete programs that are under the applications tab? I ask this because I downloaded songbird but my 32 bit system cannot open it so its there but cannot be used. Also how do you delete programs in general that you wont need?
2 How do I go about downloading songbird for the 32 bit OS?
3 I have tried to download the cpu vista meter but don't know how to install it once I have the files to extract.
4 When I boot up this machine I have the option to start up 4 different ubuntu OS' Ubuntu 2.6.32.22 and 2.6.32.21 plus their recovery modes. Question is did I screw something up during the partition and if not what is the difference between them and do I need both.
5 is there any way to access options regarding the sensitivity of the mouse pad it seems to be only for a hand held mouse
6 is there anyway to change the sounds played by empathy when messages are sent? are there any alternatives better than empathy?
7 I never partitioned a HDD before and was wondering if it was a good idea to set equal amounts of memory for windows and ubuntu. Also whats a safe way of giving more memory to a partition or removing a partition all together?
Thats it for now. I've ran commands through the terminal to get the cairo dock and that worked fine along with a few other apps.

When I wanted to uninstall, I type "make uninstall" on the directory source, and it uninstalled the program.
But today, I have installed a program which i want uninstall.
I type "make uninstall" and i get this:

When I try to remove juK or Dragon Player, they do not show up in pkgtool list. Dragon Player will not now run from the multimedia list and JuK can't run after starting because it is missing files which were removed by pkgtool above. How do I now go about finding and removing these last two?

So that you can actually see if you are repeating a keyboard shortcut or not. Because often times I tend to assign similar shortcuts to applications. Anything for windows(freeware), if this is available on linux then please share it.

Jul 25, 2010I know this may be just me being a little bias on OS's but... I quite honestly believe that "some" programs run faster on linux than on windows.
Open Office for example, It runs amazingly fast on my linux distro but runs horribly (laggy) on my Vista machine.
Firefox also appears to run faster on my linux machine than on my Vista machine.
There are several more examples but I could go on and on with this.
My point is, do programs run faster on linux than on windows? Or is it just me that is in denial?
I am not sure if comparing linux to Vista is a good comparison in terms of program speed or not...
Also it should be noted that the Vista machine "hardware" is "several" times faster than my linux machine's "hardware".
I am not trying to start a flame war or anything like that, I am just trying to make sure I haven't totally lost my mind.
Debian :: Programs Open With (Blacked Out) Windows?
Aug 10, 2015Long story short, been using Debian for 2+ years. Recently did a Clean install of Jessie (which worked fine). I wanted to test out Ubuntu 14.04 so I distro hopped for a couple weeks. Now I'm back on Debian Jessie (did a clean install again).
Problem is: Everything works fine, but after the computer runs for a while (like 2+ hours) any new program windows that I open are completely blacked out. Just like opening a big square black tile. They are unusable until I restart the computer, then everything works fine again for another 2+ hours.
I've never had this problem before, not even with my previous clean installation of Jessie. This time I installed it in the same way that I did the last time.
OpenSUSE :: Wine Not Opening Some Windows Programs?
Jun 17, 2011Some windows programs won't run after I have installed them with Wine. They either won't run or they make the screen go to a black painting screen (screen goes black and you can paint over it with your mouse to make the desktop reappear). I have tried changing the windows version and made no difference. I have even tried opening it in a virtual window and made no difference (Window opens then closes)
