I ve been writing perl scripts for testing.( i am into telecom testing) I require a gui based tool where in the scripts can be loaded and run with one click of mouse? GTK is one option i got. But anyone knows any tool which is more user friendly, require less tweaking around for the set-up and is somewhat readymade for running perl scripts? And which is open source and can be downloaded from internet?

Absolutely nothing would start. I tried different configurations, settings, but nothing. I left it alone and rebooted and started up XP. I installed Azureus and I didn't do nothing else.I didn't even configure Azureus and left the router settings.I was able to start a download.I've used KTorrent (default) and Azureus before.

I don't see how this is a threat too Linux but that's not why I'm here. I've never understood why some say that Linux is too fragmented for developing games and other applications. I mean Savage 2 comes in one Linux(.bin file) version and it runs on most of the distributions. What is the difference between all the package formats (like .rpm and .dpkg). Why won't a application run on all systems with the Linux kernel on it? Can someone with more computer and Linux knowledge please explain this to me?
I have got red hat5 installed on my pc,but not able to run perl or php programs on it. only html display can be obtained,but perl and php programs are not running on firefox browser.when executed,web browser page with server not found msg is displayed.
View 11 Replies View Relatedi am trying to do something very simple like a header and a footer for my first perl programs, what iam trying to do is that when i create a file in vim: lets say hello.pl , i would like that file to have already this in its header:
#!/usr/bin/perl
and this on the footer:
print "
";
so that i dont have to type everytime #!/usr etc i tried to do it this way but i get weird vim errors: header is a file that contains the header and footer $ vim hello.pl;header > is there another way to do it as a function in bash or some other one liner command?
Why is it so, when everything can be done by using shell? Why people use Perl and in which applications?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm extremely new to linux I've been a mac user for 6 years but recently purchased a new laptop that has windows 7 and immediately made the switch to ubuntu 10.04 after reading very good things. Problem is I like what I see very much but have no idea what the heck I'm doing and have ran into some problems.
1 How do you delete programs that are under the applications tab? I ask this because I downloaded songbird but my 32 bit system cannot open it so its there but cannot be used. Also how do you delete programs in general that you wont need?
2 How do I go about downloading songbird for the 32 bit OS?
3 I have tried to download the cpu vista meter but don't know how to install it once I have the files to extract.
4 When I boot up this machine I have the option to start up 4 different ubuntu OS' Ubuntu 2.6.32.22 and 2.6.32.21 plus their recovery modes. Question is did I screw something up during the partition and if not what is the difference between them and do I need both.

I have installed a program from source code many times.
When I wanted to uninstall, I type "make uninstall" on the directory source, and it uninstalled the program.
But today, I have installed a program which i want uninstall.
I type "make uninstall" and i get this:

Want to remove programs with no explanations on how to use so used pkgtool to remove gxine, xine, and xmms.
When I try to remove juK or Dragon Player, they do not show up in pkgtool list. Dragon Player will not now run from the multimedia list and JuK can't run after starting because it is missing files which were removed by pkgtool above. How do I now go about finding and removing these last two?

I have a 2-year old DELL XPS M1330. I used to have Windows Vista on it, but over time, I believe it became clogged with too many programs and so I wiped the hard drive and installed ubuntu 10.04 LTS about 2 weeks ago. However, ubuntu many times seems to run slower than vista did. I have 4 GB of RAM, an Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 (2.1 GHz, 3MB Cache, 800MHz FSB), 320GB HDD, 128MB nVIDIA GeForce 8400M. Ubuntu recognizes me as having dual processors at 2.1 GHz and 3.4GB RAM, but when I'm watching a simple video, whether online or locally on the computer, my CPU usage invariably jumps to 100% and it lags. Sometimes, even simple word processing makes it slow significantly.

And I went and installed Windows 7 because that's what Lenovo provides the drivers for.
But to my dismay, lots of stuff, especially my Keyman keyboards, didn't work on Windows 7. So I installed Windows XP!But there are no drivers for this latest hardware for Windows XP. So what did I do?Installed VirtualBox on Kubuntu and installed Windows XP as a guest system using it! Linux/Kubuntu takes care of the hardware (or something like that).Installing VirtualBox Guest Addons from Multiverse also enables me to share directories between the Linux host and Windows guest, so I can access the files on my Windows D drive by mounting it in Linux (which I do by default in /etc/fstab anyway) and sharing it via VirtualBox Shared Folders.Given that Intel Virtualization Acceleration technology is inbuilt into the new processor/chipset, I don't feel much difference in speed!
