Applications :: Can't Use Pkgtool To Remove Multimedia Programs

Feb 18, 2010

Want to remove programs with no explanations on how to use so used pkgtool to remove gxine, xine, and xmms.
When I try to remove juK or Dragon Player, they do not show up in pkgtool list. Dragon Player will not now run from the multimedia list and JuK can't run after starting because it is missing files which were removed by pkgtool above. How do I now go about finding and removing these last two?

Debian Multimedia :: Remove KDE Applications Without Removing Entire Desktop

May 9, 2015

I've installed Debian GNU/Linux, from a Testing NetInstall ISO, then after setting up the system, I've installed the KDE desktop.Well, I like to have a system with the applications I want, not the applications that the system wants for me, I mean, that's the point of GNU/Linux, isn't?

Thus I want to remove some applications from KDE, let's say KWrite. I know it's a good text editor, but Kate is way better, at least for me, and... I should have the authority to decide what applications I want on my system, I think you got the point. So I installed Kate, and when I try to remove KWrite, APT asks me to remove nothing but this applications: kde-baseapps kde-plasma-desktop.

I don't understand why do KDE forces me to get rid of the entire desktop... when I'm just trying to remove a single application, and a replacement it's already installed.

Ubuntu :: Delete Programs That Are Under The Applications Tab?

May 21, 2010

I'm extremely new to linux I've been a mac user for 6 years but recently purchased a new laptop that has windows 7 and immediately made the switch to ubuntu 10.04 after reading very good things. Problem is I like what I see very much but have no idea what the heck I'm doing and have ran into some problems.

1 How do you delete programs that are under the applications tab? I ask this because I downloaded songbird but my 32 bit system cannot open it so its there but cannot be used. Also how do you delete programs in general that you wont need?

2 How do I go about downloading songbird for the 32 bit OS?

3 I have tried to download the cpu vista meter but don't know how to install it once I have the files to extract.

4 When I boot up this machine I have the option to start up 4 different ubuntu OS' Ubuntu 2.6.32.22 and 2.6.32.21 plus their recovery modes. Question is did I screw something up during the partition and if not what is the difference between them and do I need both.

5 is there any way to access options regarding the sensitivity of the mouse pad it seems to be only for a hand held mouse

6 is there anyway to change the sounds played by empathy when messages are sent? are there any alternatives better than empathy?

7 I never partitioned a HDD before and was wondering if it was a good idea to set equal amounts of memory for windows and ubuntu. Also whats a safe way of giving more memory to a partition or removing a partition all together?

Thats it for now. I've ran commands through the terminal to get the cairo dock and that worked fine along with a few other apps.

I installed Azureus and I didn't do nothing else.I didn't even configure Azureus and left the router settings.I was able to start a download.I've used KTorrent (default) and Azureus before.

Slackware :: Pkgtool Not Been Created With Makepkg

Jan 22, 2010

I installed a slackware package using pkgtool.

At the end of the install process I get the following warning: WARNING: Package has not been created with 'makepkg'

It appears that the package was installed if I look at the file system. I see new files/directories from the package. But, when I try to launch the new application from /usr/bin I get this error: No such file or directory

I am a normal user "su -" to root when I did the pkgtool install and when I tried to run the application from /usr/bin.

I can see the binary in /usr/bin with a directory listing with the following permissions. -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root

I see the application as installed in the pkgtool and can un-install it.

why I can not launch the binary in /usr/bin?

Fedora :: Add/remove Programs Not Working On F13?

Oct 23, 2010

I'm a new Fedora user and I having difficulty with the product.I downloaded both the live cd and dvd of F13. I installed F13 from the live cd and after it completed I created my user name and then rebooted. Once I logged in I went to Administration -> add/remove program. I then clicked on package collections and ticked off the ones that I wanted. I then clicked on the APPLY button and I noticed that in the lower left corner of the screen (below the left panel and just above the Help button) it said Running and then nothing. If I attempt to close the screen it says that all selections will be lost. I also went back and set the filter to list "all installed" and the programs that I had selected were in the list.I then decided to try the dvd iso, so I blew everything away and installed F13 from there, but I encountered the same thing. So I'm at a loss what I'm doing incorrectly

Slackware :: Error In Package Size With PKGtool

Apr 10, 2011

A slacky.eu user Spina, I did notice a bug in calculating the size of the package when the directory contains a space in the name. Example:

Code:

/bin/du: cannot access `/tmp/prova': No such file or directory
/bin/du: cannot access `dir/abook-0.6.0pre2-i686-4cf.txz': No such file or directory
Verifying package abook-0.6.0pre2-i686-4cf.txz.
Installing package abook-0.6.0pre2-i686-4cf.txz:

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION:
# abook
# Abook is a text-based addressbook program designed to use with mutt
# mail client. Abook runs on Linux, FreeBSD and some other UNIXes.
# Home: [URL]
# Package abook-0.6.0pre2-i686-4cf.txz installed.

This error is caused by 'readlink -f'
COMPRESSED="$(/bin/du -sh $(readlink -f $package) | cut -f 1)"
instead with
Code:
COMPRESSED="$(/bin/du -sh "$(readlink -f $package)" | cut -f 1)"
it's ok

I just installed Fedora 13 today, everything is working including the internet. However, when I try to get more programs it says that it cannot find the sources, and a cache reload will fix it. I wasn't sure at first what that ment, being a begginer, but I think it means going into system-refresh package lists. So I do that,ut it still wont give me the program list. I'm really confused, I come from using windows computers and I don't know what to do now, me be a little clearer, when I click on one of the catagores to find software, nothing comes up but the defalt packages that come with the system. I go into the system-Software menu, and there are no boxes cheked. I thought that this maybe to problem, so I try to cheak the top box labled without parentheses "Fedora 13 - 1386".
