I am trying to use the video calls with skype. The person can see me but I cant see them or myself on the video call box. I have tried the download version from skype and inside my ubuntu software center and each had the same problem.
View 1 Replieswhenever I video chat with someone the image from my webcam is clear but the video from the person on the other end is messed up. It is as if it does not render correctly, it's washed out and it looks like a full image and 2 cut off images, one on the bottom and one the top of the full image. Has anyone else encountered this? The PC has a Radeon 9800 Pro AGP card with the ATI drivers installed. Other video plays fine, ....., dvd, avi and mkvs.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am new to this and I recently switched to Ubuntu on my laptop it is a lenovo thinkpad R61 it has in intel centrino chip and i can't get the mic to go through to the other person. i can hear them just fine and i can hear myself through my speakers but the other person can not hear me. I don't really know much about Ubuntu so I will give you any info you ask for as long as you can tell me how to get the info.

Well, my camera works perfectly in guvcview and in skype test (I already modified config.xml in my user dir to have 640x480, my cam is Ricoh r5870). OK, as soon as I start my video or I get itautomatically started it goes 320x240 and very bad. I turn it off during the call and I restart it: it works perfectly. Could I solve this issue by telling skype to open the video "just like if it were the second time" ?

Skype informs me that I must change my settings from Pulse audio to ALSA using a program called pavucontrol. I must delete Pulse audio, but although i have tried I can see no way to do this.Pavu control does not seem to install either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running 10.04 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 1505 laptop. Normally, when I plug my headphones in, all sound is diverted to them. I haven't found anything in sound preferences that changes this.(Under Sound Preferences, Output tab, there's a dropdown called Connector.It has options: "Analog Heaphones", "Analog Output" and "Analog Speakers" but they don't seem to make a difference.) I'd like to leave my headphones plugged in all day and setup my machine to play all sounds through my speakers (including Skype ringing), except Skype calls, which should play through my headphones. Skype has a feature to split the ringing and call sounds, i.e. play them on different devices, but the only option in each dropdown is "PulseAudio Server (local)".

After installing all possible backend needed to create accounts, I was able to create my yahoo account, but when I try video calling my friend how uses m$n on xp, I get the message "connecting....." but on my friend's pc It doesn't show that I'm calling him. The sound works, and the correct device (Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX) is selected in skype, but when I click on "Test" in the video box in Skype, nothing happens. Okay, so I have Skype installed, and it has worked fine in the past. I have been able to chat with my girlfriend on it. We can see each other and both talk. I haven't used it in probably 3 or 4 months. I tried to use it last night and for some reason, I could not see her on the video. It would just show up as a white box where the video should be. She could see me, and we could hear each other. I already had her test with somebody else to check if her video output was okay, and it worked just fine.
I read something that Cairo Dock could somehow be affecting it, but I haven't tested this theory. I can't see how the two could be related.

I can skype people, text and voice call, and can watch their video but as soon as I enable my cam Skype crashes.
I have a macbook 2.1 and successfully installedubuntu 10.04 with no problems other than the headphone jac doesn't work and the iSight i had to follow instructions to make it work..however, I cannot use it in skype. It works with cheese and ekiga, but most of the people I chat with are on skype. The driver on skype says "built-in iSight (v4l2) whereas the skype says "built-in iSight (/dev/video0) when I go into the gstreamer-properties, for video it is selected as V4L2 and in the pipeline it reads (v4l2src device="/dev/video0")
When I click test it all works fine, its just that skype doesn't work with the camera. shows I have one, I click test in skype settings and the screen stays black and the green light showing its on turns on....and when I'm in a call i try to make it work and it flashes the green light and doesnt work at all... anyone know a solution or haing the same problem?
I need to write a script. In which, the 2nd part commands need to run under another bash shell environment.The enter_antoher_bash_env.sh will setup a new shell environment, call "bash". The rest commands need to run under the new env. (I cannot change this script too. )If I run these command one by one manually, it works of course. If I put them into a script, enter_another_bash_env.sh won't return because it calls "bash" command inside.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy problem is this: the video that I receive during a video call will freeze after about 30 to 60 seconds. Before that, it works fine. And the outgoing video (that which I send to the contact on the other end of the call) is fine throughout.
If my contact resets their video by turning it off and then on again during the call, it will usually work again for a few seconds. Then, as always, it freezes.
So, I am clearly receiving the signal. But maybe I am overloading something? Is this a graphics card problem?

I have just installed 9.10 64bit Karmic Koala on a Sony VAIO VGN-NR110E.
Everything seems to be working fine out of the box...
I have my camera WORKING. I have tested it through VLC and the video is visible. I have installed Skype, and after setting up the source of the mic and video, SOUND works. Microphone from NX-6000 records sound, I can talk to someone on Skype with no problems.
The only issue i have is that in Skype settings, when I click on the TEST button in the VIDEO menu, the camera blinks, but the screen stays black. When I initiate a conversation, and enable my video, all I see is a white box in the corner, and the same thing shows up on the screen of the person I am speaking with. The sound however works flawlessly.
