Ubuntu :: Gmail Voice Calls Sound Routing?

Mar 14, 2011

I use gmail's Google Voice plugin to get calls while in the mail browser. I have a usb headset attached to my PC that I currently can output my voice chat from things like Mangler to, so I know my setup is capable of routing specific apps thru specific output devices. My issue comes form being unable to find anywhere to specifically set voice traffic thru my headset as I did while in windows. How do I do this so I don't have to quickly change my sound output when a call comes in? Or is there at least some kind of button or toggle to make that change without having to open the sound prefs menu?

Debian :: Recording Skype-to-landline Phone Calls?

Most of this conversations are work related and, having been granted permission by my boss, I would like to record them to an audio file instead of frantically taking notes on a piece of paper while he is talking.

Ubuntu :: Can't See Incoming Video On Skype / Show That?

Feb 4, 2010

I can not see incoming video on Skype.

Okay, so I have Skype installed, and it has worked fine in the past. I have been able to chat with my girlfriend on it. We can see each other and both talk. I haven't used it in probably 3 or 4 months. I tried to use it last night and for some reason, I could not see her on the video. It would just show up as a white box where the video should be. She could see me, and we could hear each other. I already had her test with somebody else to check if her video output was okay, and it worked just fine.

I read something that Cairo Dock could somehow be affecting it, but I haven't tested this theory. I can't see how the two could be related.

OpenSUSE :: Skype Alternative - Client With Good Video And Voice Quality

Jun 16, 2010

I am looking for a good alternative to Skype. I would like to have video and voice calls with a family member who uses MS XP but would like to avoid Skype if possible. Does anyone know of a good client with good video and voice quality that will work on both platforms. I'd like it to use open standards so at least we can use different OS specific clients if one is not available for both platforms. Googling hasn't yielded much and some of the results refer to really old (~2006) articles or apps. I hope I'm not doomed to using Skype. I've resisted so long with using SIP clients for voice but am stumped now that I want to include video.

Ubuntu :: Skype Incoming Video Freezes After 30-60 Seconds?

Jan 6, 2010

My problem is this: the video that I receive during a video call will freeze after about 30 to 60 seconds. Before that, it works fine. And the outgoing video (that which I send to the contact on the other end of the call) is fine throughout.

If my contact resets their video by turning it off and then on again during the call, it will usually work again for a few seconds. Then, as always, it freezes.

So, I am clearly receiving the signal. But maybe I am overloading something? Is this a graphics card problem?

SPECS:
* Mobile Intel 915GM Express card
* IBM Lenovo X41 laptop
* Intel Centrino processor
* Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic)
* Skype 2.1.0.47(Beta)

Ubuntu :: Ekiga Does Not Accept Incoming Calls?

May 14, 2010

After I installed Lucid on my Netbook, I have different problems with ekiga.

First of all, some information about my ekiga account:

In ekiga I created a SIP-Account with a usual landline phone-number, my voip-provider is 1&1 (in Germany). In ekiga the account is named "Standard%limit", because I cannot register my sip-account without the "%limit". If I leave the "%limit" out, I get the message "Could not register (Forbidden)", but here on ubuntuforums (or maybe on launchpad) I read about the "%limit" as a workaround. Maybe it has something to do with my problem, I don't know.

Now, this is my problem:

Ekiga does not accept incoming phone calls after a few minutes after launching ekiga. Well, let me describe it this way: Usually ekiga plays a ringtone and shows a message whenever there is an incoming call. However, ekiga only behaves as described and expected just after launching ekiga. A few minutes later, lets say five or ten minutes, ekiga does not accept incoming calls anymore. I tested it with my mobile phone - when I call myself on the landline with my mobile phone, I expect ekiga to play the ringtone and show a message that there is an incoming call. However, ekiga does not do anything and after a few seconds the call is terminated automatically. But it is not the same as if ekiga is not running because if ekiga is not running I get the message that the subscriber is not available.

General :: Send SMS Or Place Voice Calls Via Mobile 3g Modem In Linux?

This software allows not only connect to Internet, but also send SMS and place calls (as in you dial number in program and when you're connected, sound goes through the sound card). As far as I know, almost any USB mobile modem comes with application to send SMS via its GSM connection.Now the question is - is there any vendor-independent software that runs under Linux and allows you to use your mobile broadband modem to turn your PC into larger mobile phone? I want at least to be able to send and receive SMS using PC + mobile modem.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Configuring Skype Audio - 9980 Device For Voice In / Out

Dec 18, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu Maverick on an Intel H55 mobo. I have the sound configured to output through speakers on my monitor, via HDMI. That has been working fine. Last night I installed Skype (2.1.0.81) in order to chat to someone back in UK. When I go to the sound devices configuration in Skype, each of the devices (Microphone, Speakers and Ringing) only have a single choice: 'PulseAudio server (local)'.

In order to get my usb-connected phone handset working with Skype I have had to go to the main sound preferences and alter both input and output to '9980 Analog'. This works fine - I can make a Skype test call and playback my own voice. However, all my system sounds now go out on the usb phone handset - also the Skype ring goes to the handset, which is pretty useless because it can't be heard from more than a couple of feet away.

How can I make Skype use the 9980 device for voice in and out, and use the system speakers 'Internal Audio Digital (HDMI)' for the ringing, while leaving all the system sounds to go out on the HDMI output too? I'm sure that I managed to make Skype work much better on an older system (using Gutsy, or Intrepid???). It seems, to me that there is a lack of fine audio control in my system.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: [skype] UVC Camera Ok In Test, Not Working In Calls?

OK, as soon as I start my video or I get itautomatically started it goes 320x240 and very bad. I turn it off during the call and I restart it: it works perfectly. Ubuntu Multimedia :: Skype / No Incoming Call Sound?

Jul 14, 2010

I'm having a problem with Skype. Whenever someone calls me, the incoming call popup shows up, but I can hear no sound playing. Further, if I go in Options/Notifications and try to test the incoming call event, I'm having the same problem.

The .wav file exists and Skype can play it back. I have tested this by assigning that particular .wav to a different event, where it works as expected. Additionally, the other events, e.g. outgoing call, appear to be working normally. This would suggest, that the problem lies with the incoming call event, rather than the particular sound.

Slackware :: Skype Incoming / Outgoing Audio Dropping Out

Aug 20, 2010

I just started using Skype and I am having a problem with the incoming/outgoing audio dropping out. The videoconference will start normal the connection being perfect. The guys on the other end can see me perfectly and can hear me loud and clear for the first say...10-20 secs but afterwards the outgoing audio from my part is dropping off and they can not hear me anymore. They can still see me. I can still be seen on the other end and typing and the share screen works perfect from my part or from their part but they can not hear me anymore..

Or there are days when it goes the other way round. The incoming sound would be dropping out. I can still be seen and heard on the other end and typing and the share screen works prefect but I am not able to hear them. I am using Slackware 13.1 on a XFCE desktop installed from the official DVD downloaded from the official site and the sound works perfect. I have no problem watching videos and hearing the sound in ..... or any other audio-video streaming sites.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Skype: Split Ringing And Calls To Headphone And Main Speaker On A Laptop?

Jun 3, 2010

I'm running 10.04 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 1505 laptop. Normally, when I plug my headphones in, all sound is diverted to them. I haven't found anything in sound preferences that changes this.(Under Sound Preferences, Output tab, there's a dropdown called Connector.It has options: "Analog Heaphones", "Analog Output" and "Analog Speakers" but they don't seem to make a difference.) I'd like to leave my headphones plugged in all day and setup my machine to play all sounds through my speakers (including Skype ringing), except Skype calls, which should play through my headphones. Skype has a feature to split the ringing and call sounds, i.e. play them on different devices, but the only option in each dropdown is "PulseAudio Server (local)".
