I have installed "plug and play" webcam logitech c270. Audio works fine. I can see and hear when people call me. People can hear me, but not see me. On the Skype/Options/Video the "test" button for video results in blank white screen.

I have a Sager NP5797 running Lucid (32-bit) with a BisonCam NB Pro (V4L2) webcam on /dev/video0 In Flash (like [URL]), everything works great. My video appears to both myself and others, and I see incoming video. (I am using the 10.1 RC libflashplugin.so, downloaded from Adobe's site) But in applications like Cheese, Skype, etc., I get a big blank white box where video should be: Cheese (as well as every other app I try) sees the camera on /dev/video0:
In Skype, the person I am calling sees my video perfectly fine. So my camera is "working" and sending video. But I cannot see my video, nor can I see their incoming video. It's all a big white box just like the one in Cheese in the shot above. Taking the other person out of the equation, when I go to use the "test" in Skype, it's just a blank white box too. The video will not draw for me.
Again, I do see video in Flash-based web apps that use the webcam. And other people are seeing my video. But webcam video (both mine and the incoming stream) won't "draw" for me. What makes V4L video not draw? I am using the binary NVIDIA driver for the GTX 280M chip in the laptop, and I am using Compiz. Though I tried turning Compiz off and Cheese still just showed the white box.
I'm relatively new at Linux, and I am trying to get Nagios to work correctly. I'm running CentOS if that matters. I think I followed the directions here correctly, but all I get is a blank white screen after I login. The documentation page works fine, but I don't see anything on the main http://localhost/nagios page. I have looked at other solutions to this problem (adding the correct path to the open_basedir in /etc/php.ini) and that still did nothing. Any Way to decode my httpd logs... I have a logitech c310 webcam. When I open cheese, I get a blank. Also my wifi adapter stops working - it doesn't show up on lsusb anymore. How do I fix this? How do I get both my wifi adapter and camera to work at the same time and how do I get my webcam to work? The adapter is D-Link DWA-125. Here are the outputs for lsusb:

Running Ubuntu 8.04LTS at present. (hyperthreaded 3.06 with 2gb ram)
Have Logitech 9000 web cam .. brand new out of the box.
It installed and works both in Cheese and in Skype. (outstanding image!)
But, there is a severe lag in the image (audio does NOT lag .. so makes using any on line VERY hard to do!) Is there some way to get this thing to work properly, or am I going to have to wait on 10.04 to see if that works? (hate to use the old saw of "it works in Windows", but it DOES on my Windows machine .. just that I want it to work on the Linux box as that is my primary box and used for almost all on line activities.)
On Ubuntu 9.10 my Logitech C250 webcam just works. On Lucid the mic works but no video. In Cheese and Skype the webcam's LED is on but just a blank image. ls /dev/video* gives video0In Cheese and Skype the device is listed as UVC Camera (046d:0804) (/dev/video0)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI install the fc11 from Fedora-11-i386-DVD.iso. The software update has just updated my fc11 kernel from 2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.i686.PAE to 2.6.29.6-217.2.7.fc11.i686.PAE. If I boot using the new kernel, The screen resolution is not correct (everything gets bigger) and the screen goes into blank white screen suddenly after log in.

I have just installed ubuntu mavericks to an old laptop. I burned a cd and used it to install from. I choose to have the drive wiped and ubuntu installed to it. When I start up all goes well until the end.. I get a blank screen. It is not blank as in black. It has colors you expect to see with ubuntu but there are no controls... just a blank desktop with a cursor

To check if there was a problem with the disk I had burnt, I installed an an older version of ubuntu (8.something) which had previously worked and the same thing happened: installation goes fine but then when I reset it goes to the black screen with white writing and does nothing. I then tried to install 10.04 again through usb with the same results. Do I need to change a BIOS setting?

After the upgrade process, I restarted and chose "Ubuntu, with [the current kernel]" and now I am greeted with a white screen with no login or boot splash. My processor is pegged according to the processor case light. My computer's specs are as follows: AMD Athlon X2 5200+, ATI Radeon X1300 Pro, 2GB DDR2 ram, Dell Socket AM2 Motherboard, and 250 GB 7200 RPM hard drive. I really need to get this computer to work.
View 7 Replies View RelatedJust installed Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit on my computer dual booting with 9.10 32bit. Was hoping to move to 64 bit to get full use out of my RAM and CPU. The issue is that when I tried to run Compiz-Fusion that I got from the Ubuntu software repos that came with 9.10 nothing would change. I tried to make a 4 desktop layout with a cube like I have on the 32 bit OS and nothing happens. So I right click on the Compiz icon and select the "reload windows manager" tap in the drop down menu and every time it turns to a blank screen of white with a mouse on it. I can move the mouse and I can even use some of the new settings I changed but I cant see anything else besides a mouse and the white screen. I feel as thou I am using a version of Compiz that is not compatible with 9.10 64 bit.

when trying to choose the Linux partition, I found that it would just hang at a blank screen. Looking further into the problem, I had booted with the Linux Rescue and checked the /boot/grub/grub.conf file. It appeared to be that the menu was set to hidden. I got rid of that line, and checked the boot arguments. It still had acpi=off set with the kernel and everything else seems to be in order. Root is set to root (hd0,2) which should be correct.
Recently i had migrated from windows 7 to fedora 15. i have lot of flipbooks with me and unable to open those flipbooks in fedora. finding a suitable solution to open those flipbooks. is there a software to open these books linux. in windows there is no requirement for special softwares to open flipbook, since it is similar to flv or swf files. i had already tried with wine. with wine the file is opened but do not displays the contents or pages, show a blank white screen. @people who dont know about flipbooks: flipbooks are flash objects usually created from pdf files used for reading, flipbooks simulate the reallife book actions(page turning).

Experiencing problems with firefox browser. A plain White blank screen appears only with the titile bar named Firefox. Actually when the web-browser icon is clicked, just a cursor BAR appears stuck inside the extreme left end of the screen (cursor bar something like the one we find in word processors or this blinking line while I type this). I manually have to expand the bar in order to get the firefox browser, which is the plain white screen.
Initially had problems with the missing wireless firmware, reading through this forum I activated the Broadcom driver. But before that, I wired in my laptop to the router and then FIREFOX worked fine, after an update which installed bout 214 updates the firefox got conked.

Samsung 22X CD/DVD Burner IDE
I would like to be able to run Fedora 10 (and Vortexbox, an application to burn and store CD�s) but have been unsuccessful in getting F10 to load. I am a novice Linux/Fedora user. I've been able to load and run Windows XP on the server with no problem. I have downloaded and verified both the x86_64 DVD and the x86_64 Live CD from the Fedora website. With the live CD, the last thing that appears before the screen goes blank and the install freezes is the blue line changing to white. I have tried several different SATA configurations , have turned off all non essential options in BIOS(ethernet, USB support), and have tried loading with fail safe bios settings.
this is my first time doing a custom partition, I tried to do it with only the assistance of reading as I go, but I don't believe I found enough information last night. What I am trying to do, is put openSUSE on 200gb out of 500gb space on my external hard drive, as well as on 50gb space out of 110gb on my internal hard drive. The remaining 60gb space on my internal drive is going to be for microsoft windows. The remaining 300gb space on my external drive will be storage space. It seems like what I want to do is achievable
What I want is to have my main openSUSE on the external drive (primary partition I think?), with the GRUB loader so that when the external drive is not plugged in, my little brother can use windows on my internal hard drive. I tried this last night, and when installation had finished, I rebooted my computer and the screen was just blank black with the flashing white line as if waiting for me to type, although it would not allow me to type when I tried. It would be great if someone could tell me the order in which to partition, including the terms primary partition, extended partition, and logical partition, as needed.. I don't want to permanently muck up this machine.
I installed Fedora 10 few days back in my laptop (dell inspiron15) and i had problems with wireless connection and webcam. I have a WLAN (UTSTARCOM) Had no problems connecting to net using lan cable.But wireless was a problem.I tried changing the settings in the Network Connection window using the settings wit my ISP. Still no luck. And with my webcam like i updated wit "yum update". and i got some software application named "digikam" but tat did not detect either my lap webcam or the usb (logitech) webcam that i had.
Sorry that i could not give more details about Wireless Driver. I also would request to know the command that i should use to actually know what driver is in my laptop and also for the video driver.
My EVGA 7600GT video card suddenly died. A friend gave me an EVGA GeForce 8400GS to replace. I'm running a homemade AMD Athlon 64 3700 box with 2 GB memory and 2- 250 GB WD hard drives. First drive has Win XP OS and second drive runs Ubuntu 10.04. I was using Ubuntu about 99% of the time before the video failed. After installing new vid card, I deleted old driver in Win and installed new driver off the CD that came with the card. Windows system was then 100% back to normal.
My grub booter is set up to default boot to Ubuntu with Windows the last choice which can be done manually. After installing new Win video driver and confirming it worked, I re-booted the computer and let it go to Ubuntu. The results was the usually flashing cursor for about 10 seconds, but instead of the Ubuntu splash screen popping up, the monitor went black for about a minute and then shut off the same as if I had shut down the computer.
That was over a week ago, Since then I have tried everything I can think of but nothing changes. I have read and tried numerous ideas from other posts on these forums (such as hitting ctrl, alt, +/- to change screen resolution) but I still have a black screen.
I tried booting up from my original install CD which is ver 9.10, not 10.04 (I upgraded to 10.04 by directly downloading online and never made a 10.04 CD). I can get into an Ubuntu desktop with that old CD and I checked to see that it showed the highest resolution for my monitor (a 22" wide flatscreen whose native resolution is high-1920x1280?? don't exactly remember at the moment). I also tried loading the generic Nvidia 185 driver but it didn't seem to take. I downloaded the latest Nvidia driver for Linux onto a thumb drive and tried to install it here, but was refused because the message said it had to go into "root" and I didn't have permission. I don't know how to establish permission when booting from an old install CD. I'm sure I have administration rights under my regular 10.04 installation but can't see it due to the blank screen.
I've tried at boot to go to the recovery mode listed right below the default Ubuntu boot option, but when I do, a whole series of text flashes on the screen and rolls down to the word "done" with a flashing cursor at the very end, The cursor flashes for about 5 seconds and then the screen goes black. I've tried to enter some quick text at the cursor to keep it from going black, but it doesn't stop it. It wants to go black and it does so.
Prior to upgrading to Ubuntu 1.10 yesterday, Skype worked fine. Post upgrading, skype able to locate webcam but unable to detect mic (Logitech webcam and mic) and when hovering over skype icons the text is blank. I have removed skype and reinstalled via Ubuntu Software Centre as well as installing Quantus Plus from Synaptic Package Manager to no avail. I have tried using Google Video but video quality is poor. My knowledge on programming code is non-existent.

I have read that the logitech c200 webcam is compatible with my laptop, and should just install as soon as i plug it in. However, nothing happens when i plugged it in so i tried to install it from the cd. there is an icon that pops up on the screen when the cd is in, but goes away when it's removed. not sure what type of info you need. my system is linux mint 9 isadora.

I can increase the screen only if using the keyboard shortcut <Ctl++> keys combination.Have Shockwave Flash 10.1.r82 add-on. Firefox version is 3.6.8. Ubuntu = 10.0.4 LTS.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying out linux distros to see which I want to progress further with. I have a bunch of removable HDDs. I put a single distro on each HDD. I just installed CentOS 5.4 on a machine that has had successful installations of Debian 5.0.3, Fedora 12, and OpenSuse 11.2 installed on it. I still have those HDDs and they still boot and run fine.
CentOS 5.4 installed in graphical mode just fine. I even noticed that it appeared to probe my video card (ATI Radeon 9250 AGP) just fine. I removed the media and rebooted and the CentOS graphics came up fine, and it asked me a few questions such as could I hear the sound. Everything went fine when it said it was now booting to CentOS for the first time, and the screen went blank. The monitor LED stayed green, however, so it looks to me like the monitor still sees a signal.
I'm guessing I need to boot into text mode and fiddle with the display settings, but I'm pretty much lost there.
I did a lspci under Fedora and it lists the following for video:

OpenSUSE seems to have an issue picking up and working with my newer webcam. This webcam does work with linux, it works with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid and Linux Mint 9 Isadora but openSUSE 11.3 doesnt seem to like it. Information about webcam drivers seems to be missing now, I tried the drivers repo but no luck. Cheese freezes and WXcam comes up with a green screen with no video. This is a gateway product by my understanding but it seems to be linux compatible, especially with the Linux 2.6.34 kernel that both Ubuntu and openSUSE use right now. But for some reason its not quite clicking with openSUSE 11.3
View 1 Replies View Relatedi had an nvidia geforce 6800 card in my pc and that just all of a sudden stopped working (the screen went blank) so i went to my onboard video and it works but no matter what video card i install, it doesn't work (still a black screen) and i know the cards work on other pc's but just not this one. i've tried different ati cards and nvidia cards with no luck. i've also wanted to disable my onboard card all together but my bios doesn't have that option for some reason. i also thought that it might be the slot but when i install the video card in the pc, the fan works so it's not that.

I was having some issues with my old webcam and decided to just get a new one since my old cam was just that, old. Anyway, I went with a Logitech Orbit AF and it works as far as video goes but I can not figure out how to change the pan/tilt. I did not expect all the options of the cam to work but I figured I would at least be able to move the cam up since it is aiming at its lowest setting, which when using is around my chest. I have been searching around trying to find something that tells me what I need to do. From what I read, I think I need to change the settings of some functions called v4L2UpDownPan() and v4L2UpDownTilt() in luvcview, which I guess are in a file called v4l2uvc.c but I can not find that file. Is this what I need to do? Is that the file I need to change and if so, where is it? I just want to set it and leave it.
