General :: No Connection With Wireless BT Homehub?

Apr 12, 2011

I have just dual booted a friends Vista PC with fedora core 14. Unfortunately he needs a wireless connection to the internet vi a BT homehub 2.

I had thought this should just work straight off!

Can anyone give me a pointer to a step by step guide to do this (on FC14 preferably).

On Vista, I can get info using "ipconfig /all" at command line that gives stuff like default gateway, dhcp server, and so on. It's talking to the hub via a REALTEK8187B wireless USB (802.11g)

I suppose I have to add the hub via sys->Pref->Network_Connections->Wireless->Add.

If so, where do I ger the info to put in?

General :: Debian - Gnome: Wireless Connection List Missing Connection?

Nov 12, 2009

Each time I start up debian -lenny, the network-manager does not automatically connect me to my wireless network. The connection list shows a lot of networks available, but mine is always absent from the list. This means I each time have to go to "Connect to other Wireless Network" in and write in my network name (SSID) and password (PWA2 Personal). Then is connects nicely and everything works fine until next time I boot

Networking :: Refuses To Connect To The BT Homehub

May 30, 2011

I have linux mint 10 and a bt homwhub 2.0. The wifi dongle that I use is a BT Voyager 1055. Before a week ago I could connect to my bt homehub via linux mint and the bt voyager easily and quickly. But now, however, it seems that Linux Mint refuses to connect to the BT Homehub, the BT Voyager dongle seems to be working because it's green light is on. The Bt homehub is fine because our other windows pc's connect fine (I'm on my windows XP laptop now) but linux will not. On linux it recognises that the dongle is plugged it and picks up various WIFI connections including my BT Homehub, but when I try to connect it to the internet via The homehub, it will not, it try to connect for a minute or so and then a little message comes up saying 'wirless network disconected' any one now what to do ?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless - Lost It - 'wmaster0 No Wireless Extensions', But Then Refers To Wlan0 As The Wireless Connection

Mar 28, 2010

A friend who switched ISP's gave me his old Linksys WRT54-G wireless router. I went through the installation procedure and had a wireless connection up and running - smiley face. I had security set up for WPA, and decided to upgrade it to WPA2. Another smiley face. When I went to connect (had already done so successfully), I noticed it referred to my wireless as Linksys - I was expecting to see the SSID. So I started playing around in Network Manager and now I have things all effed up.

Don't know exactly what I did, but now I have no wireless. So I ran a few commands (lshw -C network, iwconfig, ifconfig, and iwlist scan), and looking at the results I see what appear to be inconsistencies in the output. I've posted them below, and make the following observations:

1. Under the lshw it refers to my wireless connection logical name as wmaster0, and has the correct MAC address, etc.

2. Under the iwconfig it says, 'wmaster0 no wireless extensions', but then refers to wlan0 as the wireless connection (although it does not seem to be running).

3. Under ifconfig I see both a wlan0 and a wlan0:avahi. The wlan0 has no IP, the wlan0:avahi does, but it is incorrect.

General :: At What Point Does Wireless Connection Occur

Mar 3, 2010

I have just purchased my first Linux PC - up to now I have always rolled my own so to speak. It is a little Dell Latitude 2100 which I got a good deal on through the outlet store - a refurb but it looks new. Ubuntu 9.04. It has built in wireless and I have gotten it to talk to my D-Link router although only with WEP and not yet WPA - that will come later.

When is the wireless connection supposed to occur? If I reboot the PC and watch for it to connect (using ping from another machine on the network) it does not appear until I login to it. It remains on the network after I logout(?) Is this normal? I am used to hard wired machines which come up on the network before a user logs in. Is there something I need to change in the network connection settings?

General :: Can't Get Ubuntu 10.10 To Recognize Wireless Connection

Jan 12, 2011

My wireless internet works fine on Windows but not on Ubuntu 10.10 From researching the problem, the best advice I have found was to install ndiswrapper, locate the .inf file and install it through that. I have done so and that seems to have done nothing. Then I heard that you were supposed to run the command:

Code:

modprobe ndiswrapper

All that did was give me an error message about how that action was prohibited (or some such). I'm wondering if this is possible to fix on Ubuntu or if I will have to find something else. Also, the wireless driver I am trying to use is bcmwl6 which funnily enough seemed to have a package on the boot cd to install it.

That package didn't work and just gave me and error message telling me there was a programming error in it.
I'm sorry I wasn't particularly detailed with the messages I was getting, this is because I am currently on Windows and finding those again would mean rebooting and losing this post. I can get them though if they are particularly needed. I know this seems to be a commonish problem but I haven't found a solution (yet) that has worked for me.

General :: Connect To Wireless Connection With Fedora 13

I downloaded the driver in patch form, but could not patch (command not found). Well, no internet, so I was wondering how I might get the metapackage base-devel, which should enable this command? Icidentally, I can't use gcc or anything either, so I'm not sure if I can build anything from source..

General :: Can't Connect To Internet Using Wireless On Ubuntu 10.10 Despite Having A Connection

Dec 24, 2010

I would like some help setting up using a wireless connection. I can connect using wired connection, and I have no trouble browsing. I have a strong wireless connection as well; however, when I try to browse I get a server not found error. I did download the necessary drivers. Before that, I didn't have a wireless connection. I was able to connect on this pc before the install, and all other devices still connect using wireless. I have a linksys router.

The one thing that stands out at me is the ip address that it says the wireless connection is using. It says it is 10.42.43.1
I feel like that might be problematic because I'm pretty sure my router only accepts connections with values that are between 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.200.

General :: Get Wired And Wireless Connection At The Same Time Using NetworkManager?

Jun 15, 2011

I have a wireless connection to the internet, as well as a wired connection to a local network. When the wired connection to my local network is enabled, the wireless connection to the internet no longer works until I disconnect the ethernet cable.

(This setup used to work just fine when I was using Windows, but now doesn't seem to work. I wasn't using IP aliasing in Windows, but I am now, which may be causing the problem.)

My original connection to the internet was a wired one, at eth0, so once I got wireless enabled (on eth1), I created an IP alias to my local network of eth0:1 which is a static IP on my local network. The only configuration I did at all was to add a file named /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:1, with the following contents:

Code:

And NetworkManager just seemed to pick it up automatically - I didn't change anything else in NetworkManager or anywhere else.

(Also I use 'service NetworkManager start/stop' entirely rather than 'service network start/stop' to manage my connnections. i.e. I did 'chkconfig network off' when setting everything up initially.)
