I've got an Asus G50 and when I try to connect it wirelessly there's no connection setup. I try to setup one and I get nothing. It will connect wired though.So how do I get it to see my wireless router?

I have a problem with my Grundig's (model GNB-250D) laptop wireless card. I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 and tried to use a wireless connection to browse the internet but it didn't detect any, it seemed strange as it worked perfectly on Windows. I can browse the internet fine if I use an Ehternet cable.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two linux laptops. Currently, I'm using both of them at work, side-by-side. Now the problem is, I'm connected to a wireless router, but the wireless only works on one of the laptops. So I'm stuck with one laptop that has no access to the internet. Both machines do, however, have working ethernet nic cards. So, I was wondering if I could use the laptop with the wireless connection to share the internet connection with my other linux machine and access the internet on both of them. Or as an alternative, just use the internet on the machine without wireless and be able to switch back and forth, that would increase my productivity like 30 fold.

Everything worked perfectly fine, networking included, until my friend didn't accidently turned off the wireless by pressing a wireless button on the laptop. Since then the wireless on Fedora doesn't work. It does on Windows thought. I've tried restarting the laptop few times, but the wireless still doesn't want to work again.

My reason for wanting to do this: i have a mobile broadband verizon usb device for connecting to the internet when a regular wifi connection is not available. however, my wife does not, and it would be nice if she could use her wifi to connect to my laptop wifi and subsequently share my mobile broadband connection. Independently, I have no problems with wireless connectivity using wifi or mobile broadband, I am simply unable to figure out how to configure the two to work together in such a way as to create a wireless access point via my laptop.

This problem first occurred after upgrading to 9.10. I can reconnect after restarting. I tried several things before breaking down and reinstalling 9.04. After installing 9.04, everything works great. Any suggestions on what is going on before I try upgrading to 9.10 again? I have a Dell D600.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed ubuntu 10.10 32 bit on an external HDD in order to use it as a portable operating system. An issue I have is when running on my laptop (Samsung R580) the wireless connection drops out however the nm-applet still shows it's connected. If I disconnect and reconnect it keeps asking for the access password. The wireless card on the laptop is the RTL8192E (not SE!). I have used the install on a couple of other machines with different wireless cards and no problems. Linux Kernel version is 2.6.35-22-generic. I have searched around and see that the drivers are in early development. If I tried installing the windows driver via ndiswrapper would this affect the portability of the operating system?

I have not been able to get an internet connection wired or wireless on my laptop. I downloaded the drivers from Acer's website and tried installing them using ndiswrapper. Still no luck.
I recently bought a new Acer Aspire and installed Lenny, I can get a wired network/internet connection however not a wireless connection. I use wicd. Bluetooth doesn't work either though I suspect that it might be the same issue.
Don't know if it helps however when I tpye iwconfig I get:

eth0 no wireless extensions.
My laptop has been working fine with ubuntu 10.04, and earlier today it shut down after running out of battery. I came to use itr and discovered that the wifi icon had disappeared from the panel bar, and it won't connect to the wireless networkor via a wired connection.I have had a play around with this, tried ping -c5 google.comresult was:ping: unknown host google.comand ping -c5 4.2.2.1result: onnect:etwork is unreachable.I have other computers connecting to this network and know that it is working fine.

Now I can not connect to my home wireless internet, so I can't re-enable third party software sources. I am currently using a different computer, so I know that our internet works. I checked the wireless switch on my laptop, and it says that wireless is enabled. I've rebooted, and it still doesn't work. I tried our wired internet, and that didn't work either (although I'm not sure if our wired internet works; we haven't used it in a few years)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu on my windows pc with no problems....except for wireless that is. I have a USB Linksys WUSB54G adapter to access my 2WIRE, WEP network. The thing is, it shows up in the top right hand corner. It even gives me the signal strength. But when it comes to using Mozilla, it is never able to access a page. If I try to Ping something, it's unable to. So I thought maybe I need to use ndiswrapper with my .inf and .sys files from the driver for my windows. I installed it, and added the driver to it...everything went O.K. I check it and it says it's installed and working. Again, I can see the wireless networks, and "connect" but when I try to use the connection there is nothing. I have also tried my neighbours non-WEP connection, but it still doesn't work. So I'm sort of at a loss with what I should do now. I see the networks, can "connect" but can't browse. I installed the drivers from my windows, and it still doesn't work. I used a LIVE CD of Knoppix and I can connect to the Network within 30 seconds and start browsing the net.

After having trouble with Ubuntu 9.10 (solved with a nice modemmanager bug fix by a great user) here we are with the new Lucid Lynx: until now, just to be safe, I am trying my Nokia CS-10 USB stick (for wireless 3g connection) with the Live Ubuntu, and it doesn't even get recognized (no red light or anything else)...

Ubuntu 9.04 with working wlan. I had to restart router & wap. It doesn't seem to ever retry to connect. I know my router & wap are good, I have wireless working on other laptop (running Puppy) I had to go into 'edit connections' in drop down and use 'wireless' tab then edit 'wireless connection 1' and hit 'apply' is there a better way to do this? also, no connections show up with command 'iwconfig' edit: with ifconfig, eth1 si showing data my ip address and packets sent & rcvd. I think I'll try do duplicate this event and use 'ifconfig eth1 down' and then up again to see if it reconnects.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a convert from Ubuntu (9.04 kept freezing on my laptop; when it did work, many packages it seemed were outdated--ie only Eclipse 3.2, rdesktop was messed up [and apparently is also in Fedora]), and I am having some trouble with getting my wireless working.I am running Fedora 11.First off, there is a problem when trying to connect when using DHCP. NetworkManager gets to the second green dot, and then after a short while I am given a message that the connection was disconnected.
Configuring the interface manually, not using DHCP, allows the connection to complete. However, the internet is very slow. There is a 15-30 sec delay before website loading actually commences, and then another delay each time an ad must be fetched from another server.How can I fix this delay? I know I have encountered it in earlier versions of Ubuntu, but I can't remember how I fixed it.About the rdesktop problem, if anyone is able to help [maybe I should post another thread?], the cursor color (the color of the pointer) is inverted---where it should be white it is black, and where it should be black it is white. I use rdesktop a lot to connect to my terminal server in my basement. Any idea how to fix it?
Each time I start up debian -lenny, the network-manager does not automatically connect me to my wireless network. The connection list shows a lot of networks available, but mine is always absent from the list. This means I each time have to go to "Connect to other Wireless Network" in and write in my network name (SSID) and password (PWA2 Personal). Then is connects nicely and everything works fine until next time I boot

I have done this before on Windows however I am having some trouble doing this on linux, I have tried using Squid Proxy however I am having some trouble using configuring/using it.
I am using Yellow Dog Linux however I am willing to change to any other distro as long as it is compatable with PS3 (as this is what im using linux on)
These problems just started the last couple of days but I have been using Lucid 10.04 for a month now. My wireless Signal varies in strength wildly. I sitting at home, not 20 feet from my router. I never had these problems before Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04. I am running both Network Manager and Wicd.
Errors:
1. Wicd states "Wrong Password" which is not true.
2. Dropping off-line for no reason, sometimes 3 or 4 times a minute and sometimes it works fine for hours.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Vortexbox (fedora distro) installed on a laptop which I am using as a media server. I would have issues where I thought the laptop would go to sleep and disconnect itself from the internet. The computer boots in command line mode and what I would notice is that the screen would go blank and then I would have to go to the computer and jiggle the trackpad and it would wake up. I posted about it and got responses related to the gnome desktop which I could not find the files referred to in the answer.
I tried using setterm to keep the computer awake setting blank to 0 and powersave off. The same thing happens even with the monitor on and the screen display on. A gesture on the trackpad seems to wake the ethernet back up. Here's my old post: [URL]. Everything else about this situation is perfect. Vortexbox is easy to set up and it does everything I want, DLNA, streams to my squeezeboxes, etc, but this ethernet cutting out is exasperating.
I cannot Browse Even Internet is Active. Connected using Mobile Broadband using Samsung Mobile USB MODEM. (Modem is recognized Successfully and Connection Shown as active!) I cant browse or even use apt-get update in terminal.. no use. (Even I can see the Gprs icon in the Mobile Phone). I'm trying to install debian on my HP laptop but get the following problem...
After the live CD boot screen shows up i go to XFCE > install
it loads vmlinuz and init.gz and after that the screen goes blank
i tried graphical install, advanced install, advanced graphical install but those too didn't work
also i tried all of these from LXDE menu
but the same problem
My laptop is HP pavillion dv6
its got an ATI radeon graphics card (hope there's no problem with the display)
4GB ram
intel core i7
However the cd works fine with my old desktop computer
which has no graphics card
256MB ram
intel P4 CPU
Do i need to set some boot parameters?
I bought a new CDROM drive, as recommended by HP. It still doesn't work. I can open and close it now; so that's changed. But it still doesn't appear as a drive, and I can't use it.
Here's as best as I can describe it:
When starting up, the boot order doesn't recognize the cdrom drive, but I can open and close the drive during this time.
In Windows 7, I can't open the cdrom drive, and it doesn't recognize it in device manager, disk management, or my computer.
In Ubuntu Linux, I can open the cdrom drive, but it still doesn't recognize the cds, and it won't mount.
If I reformat everything, would my cdrom drive work again? Can I reinstall Windows without a cdrom drive? I've deleted the upper and lower filters as was suggested in Google searches. Took the disk drive out and checked that it was installed correctly (no reason it shouldn't have been). Still: nothing works.
I dual boot with windows xp and ubuntu 9.10. When using windows my wireless works fine but when using ubuntu my wireless does not work. The first time ubuntu was loaded the wireless was working and then while I was trying to figure out how to load a program I messed up a grub file. As I couldn't fix it I just reinstalled Ubuntu and since then my wireless is inoperable in Ubuntu only.
