General :: Getting Sound To Application From Sound Card Line-in/microphone?

May 7, 2010

I'm trying to use an application (e.g., mplayer) to play sound that comes in my sound card (via the mic jack). (What I'm really trying to do is sync a sports broadcast by putting a delay on AM audio, as described here. I'm stuck at the part where it says "this shouldn't be too difficult".) I've seen some hints that there might be code-heavy solutions using LADSPA or some JACK SDK, but there's just gotta be a simpler way. I'm hoping for something like

Code:

mplayer -delay -7 - < /dev/mic

but I'm darned if I can find it. I'm sure there are plenty of other sports fans who would find this useful for syncing radio with the digital TV feed...

Fedora Servers :: Asterisk On F11 With Twinkle & Ekiga - Jitters - Cannot Get Crap Like Gtk-recordmydesktop To Produce Sound

Oct 5, 2009

i just had to switch from 10 to 11 until 12 comes out, and after setting up asterisk, i noticed VERY VERY BAD sound quality, mostly comprised of severe jittering. I noticed that the way Fedora lets you work with your sound devices in 11 is way different (nicer, but obviously not complete) than ever before, and i am using the same asterisk configs as before, so i'm positive that this is NOT an asterisk issue, and does NOT really belong in this forum; however, only asterisk users will be able to replicate or identify with this issue.

Have any of you 11 users had this happen to you, and if so, did you figure out how to solve it? I'm sure that i can *try* adjusting asterisks jitter buffer settings, but like i said, it was NEVER an issue before 11... Another clue would be that i cannot get crap like gtk-recordmydesktop to produce sound (but that may very well be another issue; however i doubt it)...

Ubuntu :: Test Sound - No Application Sound Through Front Audio Socket - 10.04

Jun 22, 2011

Strange one. Just upgraded my mother-in-law's computer from 8.04 to 10.04 via the update manager. All seems to be working beautifully except ...

* When I run gstreamer-properties and do an output test I get a test sound through the headphones plugged into the front audio socket of the machine using the 'Analogue Headphones' setting in Sound Preferences. (This rules out dead headphones.)

* When I try to play audio through any app I get no sound through the headphones, but if I change the setting to 'Analogue Output' in Sound Preferences I get audio loud and clear through the speakers which are plugged into the audio socket at the rear of the machine. how the gstreamer-properties test is getting audio to the front socket I guess I'd be getting somewhere.

General :: Application Called Impact - Paths In Java Application ?

Apr 14, 2010

So, I have this application called Impact, it is an explicit time integration Finite Elements code written in Java...

I untar the pack, and launch the application calling a script, from within the untarred folder,

Code:

This launches a gui which allows me to setup a case, which needs some setup file, tipically some *.in and a mesh file, tipically some *.msh.

Other mode of executuion consists of calling the setup file as argument to Impact.sh script ( CLI execution mode, for g33k5 )

My problem is : I have packed the whole stuff into a Slackware .tgz, that places it in /usr/local/Impact, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin,

even after adding /usr/local/Impact/bin to PATH... won't go...

I can run this thing from within its directory... but I do not like messing within the directories of my applications, this is why I sent this to /usr/local, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin...

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.2 - Sound With Only One Application

May 15, 2010

So I have opensuse 11.2 installed with the latest version of kde. boot, root, and swap are hanging out loving life while home is in a software raid 10. So many years ago I installed an Xmystique 71 gold card. Works great, but only for one app. I pause a movie and want to crank some tunes it gives me fits. I am not a fan of this. I love my opensuse raid 10 but the sound is just killing me. Should I disable the Xmystique card and enable the default motherboard shwag? The embedded sound really is not that bad and should it give me a solution, as in I can utilize sound in more than one app at a time, I will gladly take it. I mean who does not want to utilize amarok whithout shutting down ..... or vlc or kaffeine or whatever.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Which Application Is Using The Sound Card

Feb 3, 2010

I'm running Amarok 1.4 and I frequently need to restart the sound daemon. As far as I can tell; no applications are using it at the time, but alsa cycles through my playlist without playing anything (i.e. loads track, doesn't play it, moves to the next track, so on and so forth).

I'm pretty sure this would have something to do with another process using the sndcard. I just don't know which one so I can kill it and troubleshoot why it's doing it.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Specific Sound Car Per Application?

I have two sound cards in my computer. OpenSuSE 11.3 recognizes them both without a problem, and I can play sound through each of them. Is it possible to set one application to use one sound card simultaneously with another sound card routing to a different application? That would be sweet. For example, I have my surround speakers plugged into one sound card, so I can provide music for the whole room, and have my PC speakers next to the monitor playing a movie.

Fedora :: Pulse Audio Sound Card Per Application

Sep 30, 2009

My wife is reluctant to move from WinXP so I started my own personal campain to promote fedora at home but my wife complains that I "spend too much time fidling with the thing(PC)" and that "it wasn't the case with WinXP" so I =was looking for ways to impress my wife with fedora's capabilities so I flashed her with compiz and dual screen using our old 52" projection tv as a DVR but rhe problem is that my daughter want to watch her DVDs and my wife want to watch a ..... video.I have a system with two Sound card one embedded on the main board and one on a PCI slot and what I am trying to achive is haveing two applications, like two instances of VLC play their sound on the souncard I select per instance, or one Sound card playing VLC and the other playing a ..... video's sound.

I have looked at pulse audio properties and it detects both of my sound cards just fine and it plays wonderfully on either but that is just it... it will pay on either but not both.I have read that you can configure pulse audio to use your second sound card as sorround or duplicate audio but the idea is dicrete audio from dicrete application. Is there such an use case already supported by pulseaudio? So there might be a solution if I disable Pulse Audio but I rather not but I'm open to either.

Hardware :: UVC Webcam To Produce 30 Fps ?

Jan 14, 2011

Logitech 9000 pro.

I need 30 fps so I can splice into existing video.

I am using this script.

Code:

Even though I have set 'fps' to 30, I only get between 14 and 16. Several thread on the internet tell me that UVC in only capable of 15 fps in 640x480 mode.

Is there some way to make the camera (ID 046d:0809 Logitech, Inc.) work as something OTHER than a UVC type camera? Is there a code snippet to work with?

I have no problems with getting the camera to work with any of the apps in the Ubuntu reposit. The script above records video and audio great, just not 30 fps.

The video I will be splicing into will be shot with a video recorder and windows software. If it is a USB hookup, will it have the same constraints of UVC at 15 fps. IIRC, it is the USB that has the compression problem that limit it to 15 fps.

Slackware :: Cannot Produce DVD With Menus

Jun 13, 2010

I am having no joy at all trying to produce a DVD with menus using Slackware. I have spent the best part of a day and a half, to no avail, and have had to revert to using either Ubuntu or Win XP under virtualbox just to achieve this.

Have tried using the following front ends to dvdauthor:
Dvdstyler
Devede
2mandvd
Kdenlive (dvdwizard)
Varsha

I am able to produce a DVD with any of them, but without menus. As soon as I try anything to get a menu, all that happens is the menu is produced, but the 'clickable' buttons do nothing, meaning I am unable to navigate away from the menu. Using Dvdstyler under Ubuntu, and follwing exactly the same procedure to produce the DVD works as expected, as does any of the myriad of progs available for Win XP.

I downloaded Manslide, I spent about two hours working on it doing the slides but at end of the render process it do not produce any output. Then I discover that Manslide now is SMILE that is in Packman repo. I spent another two hours making again my slideshow but at the end it didn't produce the output video file. OpenSUSE :: Smile - Doesn't Produce Any Output File

Dec 18, 2010

If you install Smile (video slideshow creator) from Packman repository, you will probably find out that it doesn't produce any output file. This project is most probably dead, homepage is 404 and it's practically impossible to get any information about this program. Therefore it took me 3 exhausting hours to get it working Here is the solution: There is a missing fake.pl file, so you have to copy it to the right place, which is /opt/smile (for OpenSuse, for other distros it could be elsewhere, for example /usr/bin). You can obtain this file from the source package but as it is very small I post it right here to spare your time:

[Code].....

So create a new file /opt/smile/fake.pl and copy these lines into it. Btw. the original file from the source doesn't have the first line, but according to the tip from different forum it is supposed to be here. If Smile still doesn't work you might try to add some extra permission to fake.pl, something like chmod 755 /opt/smile/fake. And if it is still not working check the log file ~/.logsmile.txt This file is by the way also impossible to find, there is no sign of him in the documentation.
