I'm trying to run a Linux application and all I want to run is this one application off of boot. I need networking and that's all (no display, peripherals, etc.). I want no other applications running so that the application I run has 100% of the CPU. Is this possible?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using Debian Lenny and I want to tunnel rtorrent only through a OpenVPN tunnel. I have a tunnel running, the config file looks like this:
client
dev tun
proto udp
remote openvpn.xxx.com 1194
resolv-retry infinite
nobind
persist-key
persist-tun

My idea is that I could run a sockd proxy internally that redirects traffic to the openvpn tunnel. I could use the *nix "proxifier" application "tsocks" to make it possible for rtorrent to connect through that proxy (as rtorrent doesn't support proxies). I have trouble configuring sockd as my IP inside the VPN changes every time I connect. This is a config file someone said would help:[URl].. As my IP changes at each connect I don't know what to put in that config file. I have no control over the host side config file.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use an application (e.g., mplayer) to play sound that comes in my sound card (via the mic jack). (What I'm really trying to do is sync a sports broadcast by putting a delay on AM audio, as described here. I'm stuck at the part where it says "this shouldn't be too difficult".) I've seen some hints that there might be code-heavy solutions using LADSPA or some JACK SDK, but there's just gotta be a simpler way. I'm hoping for something like
Code:
mplayer -delay -7 - < /dev/mic
but I'm darned if I can find it. I'm sure there are plenty of other sports fans who would find this useful for syncing radio with the digital TV feed...

I have experienced 4 or 5 times a sound-muting bug. Suddenly speakers stop working (usually not in in the middle of something musical but when there is no sound playing) and does not work again until I reboot the system.

I have come across an issue. We have an application for the biotechnology. The application is very heavy so we are trying to run it on cluster. We have four Dell workstation 7500. Each is having 32 GB RAM. But I am not getting the exact method of configuring cluster and node. I have tried Conga (Luci, Ricci). My questions are:1) Is it possible that our application can run on cluster ?2) If its possible then how shall i configure it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Compaq Presario F700 laptop has Conexant HD-Audio SmartAudio 221 (checking from my Windows partition). I had everything working just fine until yesterday when I attempted to manually install an alsa-linux package that I downloaded sometime ago. Although the .deb package failed to install, it seems it messed things up and now there's no sound. The speaker icon shows "All mute" and I have no clue how to fix this. How do I 'unmute' it?

* When I run gstreamer-properties and do an output test I get a test sound through the headphones plugged into the front audio socket of the machine using the 'Analogue Headphones' setting in Sound Preferences. (This rules out dead headphones.)
* When I try to play audio through any app I get no sound through the headphones, but if I change the setting to 'Analogue Output' in Sound Preferences I get audio loud and clear through the speakers which are plugged into the audio socket at the rear of the machine. how the gstreamer-properties test is getting audio to the front socket I guess I'd be getting somewhere.
So, I've got an Acer 5742G, and the silly thing is only built with one internal speaker. Ubuntu thinks it's my left channel, however Windows 7 'gets it' and plays both channels to that speaker. When I plug in external speakers or headphones, everything works fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThere's this feature in MacOSX called "Single application mode", that makes it so only one window shows up. I was looking at ratpoison, but that doesn't allow the panel to run. What I would want is for my KDE-Dock and the menubar to stay, but only one "main" app loads at a time [the rest are "hidden", not minimized, either]. is this possible?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn Windows I've been using XMPlayer for that purpose. XMPlayer has got a rar plugin and it works as expected.I stumbled across this plugin for Audacious but I'm not sure it's relatedhttp://kittylambda.com/rsn_plugin_for_audaciousI've ran XMPlay succesfully with wine with the rar plugin and it actually works (a bit slower but it works). But what I'm missing is integration with nautilus since drag and drop won't work from nautilus to XMPlayer. I have to navigate to the rar file manually on the file-open window and since Nautilus puts it's mounts on /home/[username]/.gvfsit's a bit cumbersome.

So I have opensuse 11.2 installed with the latest version of kde. boot, root, and swap are hanging out loving life while home is in a software raid 10. So many years ago I installed an Xmystique 71 gold card. Works great, but only for one app. I pause a movie and want to crank some tunes it gives me fits. I am not a fan of this. I love my opensuse raid 10 but the sound is just killing me. Should I disable the Xmystique card and enable the default motherboard shwag? The embedded sound really is not that bad and should it give me a solution, as in I can utilize sound in more than one app at a time, I will gladly take it. I mean who does not want to utilize amarok whithout shutting down ..... or vlc or kaffeine or whatever.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Amarok 1.4 and I frequently need to restart the sound daemon. As far as I can tell; no applications are using it at the time, but alsa cycles through my playlist without playing anything (i.e. loads track, doesn't play it, moves to the next track, so on and so forth).
I'm pretty sure this would have something to do with another process using the sndcard. I just don't know which one so I can kill it and troubleshoot why it's doing it.
I have two sound cards in my computer. OpenSuSE 11.3 recognizes them both without a problem, and I can play sound through each of them. Is it possible to set one application to use one sound card simultaneously with another sound card routing to a different application? That would be sweet. For example, I have my surround speakers plugged into one sound card, so I can provide music for the whole room, and have my PC speakers next to the monitor playing a movie.
