I am using Compiz, and am trying to use Animations to make only Gloobus Preview (Window name= gloobus-preview) open with one of three animations. I have selected Horizontal Folds, Sidekick, and Zoom in Random Effects, made a new item for Open, set its duration to 200, set it to Random, and have tried everything possible to try and get only Gloobus Preview to have an animation, but nothing works. I can get everything except Gloobus Preview to have an animation, but if I do the opposite, then nothing works. If I set it to "any", then Gloobus Preview animates, but so does everything else. I would like for nothing to have an open animation except for Gloobus Preview. How can I do this in Compiz's Animations?

I had problems getting sound working on a new install of 9.10, and eventually got it working by going to gnome alsa mixer and increasing Master F which was near 0%.Sound works now, but the fn+F10/F11 (volume up/down) keyboard shortcuts which show volume increasing and decreasing in sound preferences have no effect on the volume.How can I get these shortcuts working again?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been messing around with Cinelerra after doing a Final cut pro course some time ago but as it needs to be told what to do more i am finding it hard going. When I have track 1 that has audio and video and also track two has the same then i mute the audio in one and block out the video in then other. Then add effects. It is then moving audio or video around and nothing is in sync anymore. Not where i put things. I undo the effect to see if it will go back but no go. I try to undo to the point where maybe i missed something but nope that is not it. Inevitably i have to redo everything again but then i end up with the whole thing out of sync again. I had a previous install of Ubuntu and Cinelerra and i don't remember striking this problem. Am i not loading the tracks properly. I don't have a good work flow with this and i know i should try something more simple but i am impatient to edit videos i have had for years and years and years. I never did learn editing in windows so i am happy to be getting somewhere in Linux.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Travelmate 630(14.1" model) running Ubuntu 11.04 and I have experienced a frequent amount of freezing. Usually when I log in, the login sound effect doesn't play, the cursor turns into a wheel which changes back to the normal cursor, then changes into the wheel, but frozen. At this point the computer has completely frozen, nothing moving, no input of any kind responisive, and I have to hard reboot. Several times after that the problem goes away and I am able to log in and use it normally. I also experienced freezing when loading up Ubuntu Software Centre and using Firefox.
Sometimes after leaving it for a while, the problem is gone, but after an hour or two completely freezes again. Everything on the machine is stock, apart from upgraded 1GB RAM and 60GB HDD. And I use an external monitor because the internal one has a damaged cable(replacement coming soon). Are there anyways I can track down the problem? I have already uninstalled compiz and am running Ubuntu Classic mode. I am happy to downgrade to 9.04 as that is compatible with my USB WiFi adaptor without doing complex stuff, but would like to solve the problem on 11.04.

I'm using the on board HD Audio (ALC 889A) and using the optical Audio out for 5.1 Surround sound.

I Can't find a great deal of posts with the Realtek HD audio.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10, but so far I've been unable to get sound to work. I know my sound card is Realtek, because I've had to install the HD Audio Codec Driver when I was on Windows. I was running Ubuntu 9.04 and just upgraded to 9.10 recently. I see many others are having problems with their sound. I too do not have sound. I did get sound running briefly with an Alsa update, but it was muffled. In trying many other fixes, I again have no sound and can not resolve it. I am thinking of burning a new cd and doing a fresh install and starting over.
My lap top is an MSI GT725 US model with an HD4850 mobility graphics card. I dual boot between Vista 32 bit and Ubuntu.

I have an MSI S420 with a realtek alc883 onboard. I upgraded from ubutu 8.04 to 10.4 recently, The sound worked in 8.04 although the mic did't work and the same thing in 8.10 (i went through all upgrades) it stopped working at all in 9.04 onwards.
If i did Lspci -v it did say the name of my card, ( I unmuted all in alsamixer and got the codecs but even a test soud won't work) I also dowloaded a driver from Realtek itself, that didn't work.
Then I edited alsabace.conf some more. I tried every one that could possily be it at [URL] including all that said MSI.
I then tried Lordraidens comprehensive sound guide from step 1 to step 5, I used the module-assistant and istalled a driver that was called "hda-realtek-codec" or so. It was the only appropriate one on the list.

I've been trying to get my surround sound(5.1) to work for the past couple of of days, followed a number of guides, but nothing seems to get it working at all. I'm connecting the speakers using 3 analogue audio cables, I have tested and they work fine under Windows. When I go into the Sound options in Ubuntu I don't see a 5.1 profile listed under the Hardware tab, only stereo(and that works fine).
The sound controller is a Realtek ALC892 built-in to my mobo(Gigabyte P55A-UD3).
Here is some info I've seen requested in other threads, I'm running 10.10 RC, but I can assure you it doesn't work under earlier versions.

Sound works with Jaunty Jackal. Does not work with Lucid Lynx. It appears that Lucid Lynx will only acknowledge that I have a modem as a sound card. I just want to add my RealTek ALC880 driver so the sound will work. I've made sure that I have audio privileges, I made sure that nothing is muted using alsamixer. I've been looking at threads and documentation for four days just to fix the sound issue and so I can be prepared in case this 'feature' ends up being continued in Maverick Meerkat and when I upgrade I can use M.M. with minimal fuss.

Alsamixer shows the channels: Master - Speaker - PCM - Mic Boost - Mic Boost - Capture.

Strange one. Just upgraded my mother-in-law's computer from 8.04 to 10.04 via the update manager. All seems to be working beautifully except ...
* When I run gstreamer-properties and do an output test I get a test sound through the headphones plugged into the front audio socket of the machine using the 'Analogue Headphones' setting in Sound Preferences. (This rules out dead headphones.)
* When I try to play audio through any app I get no sound through the headphones, but if I change the setting to 'Analogue Output' in Sound Preferences I get audio loud and clear through the speakers which are plugged into the audio socket at the rear of the machine. how the gstreamer-properties test is getting audio to the front socket I guess I'd be getting somewhere.
I noticed that any CPU load, while using Rakarrack guitar effects, causes the sound to distort and it generates loads of noise. This actually happens when using anything while running Jack audio. If I'm recording, I get tons of noise on the recorded track when I play it back (and live when monitoring) because any CPU usage seems to interfere with the signals. It even does it live in the playthrough (monnitor).
I realized it had to do with CPU usage when I noticed a pattern with the noise correlating to the plasma CPU monitor widget I had running originally. The noise refreshed when the monitor did. Since then, I noticed that anything that puts a slight load on the system will cause this disruption (even moving a window around, or anything in the background processes).
Anyone who is experienced with Jack audio, and possibly rakarrack as well, know the cause to this? I figured loading a low resource WM and eliminating unneeded processes can help but it doesn't since the recording program itself, while recording, is enough to cause this problem. (I know this because playing the guitar in Rakarrack, without recording and just using Jack to run the sound to the speakers, doesn't have constant noise but when recording, there is a constant noise)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had a snap, crackle, pop coming from my speakers since I put this machine together, even now, with no reason for any sound to be coming from the speakers. Additionally, the crackling only becomes worse when I play ANY audio regardless of player or source, however the sound does just drop for a few seconds and then back and then off again when there is SUPPOSED to be audio. I understand not working at all, but "kinda" working is more confusing.
I'm running slack64 with the with an updated kernel from current, even though the rest of the machine is stock 13_64. The problem was the same with the original 2.6.29.6 kernel.

I'm trying to use an application (e.g., mplayer) to play sound that comes in my sound card (via the mic jack). (What I'm really trying to do is sync a sports broadcast by putting a delay on AM audio, as described here. I'm stuck at the part where it says "this shouldn't be too difficult".) I've seen some hints that there might be code-heavy solutions using LADSPA or some JACK SDK, but there's just gotta be a simpler way. I'm hoping for something like

I've managed to get everything working including built in webcam on my laptop.The only thing I can't get is sound.
