View 2 RepliesI installed VirtualBox-OSE and VirtualBox-Kernel from the Slackbuilds at slackbuilds.org.When I start VirtualBox I get the following message on the CLI: Code: WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded.Either there is no module available for the current kernel (2.6.33.4-smp) or it failed to load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup. You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.I gave /etc/rc.d/rc.vboxdrv executable permissions, and then ran.The only issue is, I have to do this each time that I reboot, should I add 'modprobe vboxdrv' to one of the startup scripts or is something else wrong?

I have installed Virtualbox PUEL in 64-bit 11.3. This is a fresh install. My computer has an onboard nvidia 8300GS graphics card. I do not think this is related to the issue. I added the virtualbox repository and installed the program via yast. when I type "VirtualBox" in the terminal I get the following output:

Used to work perfectly. I attempted to install VPN client, result is can't connect to anything. Networks are seen by network manager, nothing happens when click connect. Results below:

View 14 Replies View Relatedwhat is happening on my Centos virtual server (ps I'm having a great time re-learning Linux after a large gap and usually try and find out myself but this has me confused) First thing I did was install Tomcat and try and change the port to 80 using iptables -nat and it complained a kernel module was missing. Instead setup Apache to redirect requests so that's now working I then tried to install CSF firewall and the validation perl script returned fatal errors so I assumed OK my virtual server Kernel is restricted and used denyhosts instead which is working great
Here's the confusion.. I later retried the csftest script and it now works including all the iptables and nat stuff that fataled before. I've not rebooted or changed anything except run denyhosts and the postgres daemon + ended a few daemons that I didn't need (eg pickup, tlsmgr, courier, postfix, qmgr, saslauthd) Running lsmod returns nothing and /proc/modules is zero bytes so I'm not able to tell what is loaded? I'm tempted to try and get Tomcat redirecting via iptables and see what happens but if it works I don't like that something seems to have changed.. before I ran it direct as root now I'm SU into root from another login
I've got a problem with my 3G modem [Huawei E122].
It has internal storage and kernel assigns a device [/dev/sdX] to it.
Because of that, every second time my machine will not boot - kernel panic - as my usb hdd gets assigned /dev/sdb instead of /dev/sda.
I cannot use LABEL nor UUID in root= kernel parameter, as it is only available when using initrd, and I can't use it - I am using Debian on my router - mips architecture machine.
I have to prevent this from happening, as my router has to start everyday and I have to be sure it works ok. I don't have physical access to restart it when something goes wrong.
I don't use my modem internal storage, there's no SD card inserted. However kernel detects the reader and loads it.
I can not prevent loading od usb drivers since my hdd is on USB as well.
For a diskfull node (the OS installed in a disk), I can use the 'insmod' command to insert a kernel module into the kernel. And after the reboot, the module is still in the kernel. I have a question here: how, when and which kernel module will be loaded in the boot up process for a diskfull node? And for the diskless node, can I use the chroot or some other ways to install the kernel modules into ramdisk, so that kernel module can work when the diskless node boot up? I think it needs certain mechanism to load the kernel like the boot up of diskfull node.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install 11.2 on a system with RAID-1 /boot partition and RAID-10 /(root) partition. I have done this before with 10.3 but am hitting a wall with 11.2. In particular, the boot image loads and then halts when it tries to load the RAID-10 root partition saying that the personality is not laoded. modprobe shows that the raid10 module does not appear to be part of the boot image. I cannot find anything in the installation that will allow me to specify a module to include in the init image. How do I tell the installer to include an additional module?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 1551-4755 notebook with AR5B93 wireless chipset. ath9k is loaded and my card is detected as Atheros AR928X PCI-Express wireless network adapter. However, the ath9k driver is only allowing me to connect at 802.11g speed in spite of the fact that my WRT310N loaded with DD-WRT is in mixed mode. I am able to connect at wireless N speed with my D-Link DWA-130 usb dongle, but this is a rather backward solution. Is there a way to work around this issue, ie an updated ath9k or other madwifi driver? I would hate to resort to ndiswrapper for a natively supported chipset. I am using openSuSE 11.3 for the first time, long time Fedora user.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter much tiddling'n'fiddling I finally got my new Linksys WUSB600N v2 working. Contrary to many posts, mine did NOT work with either the standard rt2870sta module, nor the updated version from the driver:wireless repo. Also the rt2870 version from the ralink website didn' t work. After a days worth of Googling I came across this post. The bottom line?
1. Download rt3572 from the Ralink website.
2. Add {USB_DEVICE(0x1737,0x0079)}, /* WUSB600N v2 */ to common/rtusb_dev_id.c
3. Follow README_STA
I did not install firmware packages. And be sure the rt2800sta module doesn' t get loaded. (you could just remove it, I suppose.)
I've built my own kernel and now boot.preload complains about the missing preloadtrace.ko kernel module.
Where can one find the source for this module?
What is the error "invalid module format" and the message "insert kernel module" mean? And whats the reason for the same?
View 8 Replies View RelatedIm trying to recompile the 2.6.29.4 kernel to have the megaraid_sas driver built as a module instead of built-in to see if it solves a problem that is happening on a Dell Perc 6 contoller. Im having some trouble getting it to boot. It compiles fine as a module, but when the system boots, it freaks with a kernel panic and not being able to mount / .
It looks like it cant find the scsi disk controller since it complains about not being able to mount /.Ive seen this before where I had to rebuild initrdand preload the right modules Im compiling and installing the modules then rebuilding initrd with preload=megaraid_sas, but that does not help. Maybe there are more scsi drivers needed to preload?
I have a Samsung phone GT-B3210. For some time I was unable to find working Windows drivers for it. I eventually gave up looking. Then one time I was charging phone over its USB port and booted Ubuntu and was pleasantly surprised when I saw phone's μSD card reader on my desktop. I now need to switch to Gento and would like to be able to work with phone there too. Lsusb tells me it's detected as Bus 007 Device 006: ID 04e8:663f Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd SGH-E720/SGH-E840but lsmod wasn't very helpful. On the list of loaded modules, I wasn't able to find one which looks like it's related to the phone.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty new to this whole (micro)kernel architecture story.
Im wondering if a kernel module is running in kernel or in user space?
Is a driver running as kernel module slower than a driver build into kernel?
If so, are there some current articles, benchmarks?
what is the module that is used to process font in Linux kernel?
