OpenSUSE :: Can't Start Virtualbox PUEL In 11.3 - WARNING: Vboxdrv Kernel Module Not Loaded

Aug 8, 2010

I have installed Virtualbox PUEL in 64-bit 11.3. This is a fresh install. My computer has an onboard nvidia 8300GS graphics card. I do not think this is related to the issue. I added the virtualbox repository and installed the program via yast. when I type "VirtualBox" in the terminal I get the following output:

OpenSUSE :: Virtualbox Can't Start - Vboxdrv Not Loaded

Mar 24, 2010

Recently I had updated the kernel but afterwards I can't run virtualbox because the kernel modules aren't loaded.

Virtual box: 3.1.4 r57640 OpenSuse110-x86_64 Open Suse 11.0 running kernel-default-

When I try to start vboxdrv manually I can find the message: kernel: warning: `VirtualBox' uses deprecated v2 capabilities in a way that may be insecure.

After I installed the older kernel-default- version I can start virtualbox.

But, much to my suprise, I also get this message with this kernel level. But still, the kerneldrivers are loaded and I can run virtualbox.

Slackware :: Vboxdrv Kernel Module Is Not Loaded

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Cannot Find Map File. No Module Symbols Loaded - Kernel Modules Not Enabled

Used to work perfectly. I attempted to install VPN client, result is can't connect to anything. Networks are seen by network manager, nothing happens when click connect. Results below:

Advice is to use output of dmesg command to find problem, but as above I don't get any results for this in terminal.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Unable To Start VirtualBox Kernel Modules - Error Stopping VirtualBox Kernel Modules

Mar 23, 2011

I was trying to install VirtualBox through the YaST > Software Management but it is not working, someone in the forum told me that I have to download the OSE version and do it manual way. Finally I am able to start up VB but not able to use the network connection. Thus I am trying to do this:

/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup. I get this error:

When I type dmesg, it shows me a bunch of info which I don't know what should look for. When I type modprobe vboxnetflt, I get the error: FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetflt (/lib/modules/ Invalid module format. what should I do in order to get my VB to be able to connect to the internet?

OpenSUSE :: Virtualbox: Vboxdrv Doesn't Load On .3 (raw_notifier_chain_register)

Sep 22, 2010

I have problems to get Virtualbox 3.2.8 under openSuse 11.3 (, x86-64) running. I tried both the VirtualBox-3.2-3.2.8_64453_openSUSE113-1.x86_64 package from Virtualbox and self-compiled drivers as well as the newest RPM packages from openSuse(backports). I mostly get the following error during the vboxdrv load:

[ 269.095562] vboxdrv: Trying to deactivate the NMI watchdog permanently...
[ 269.095562] vboxdrv: Successfully done.
[ 269.095562] vboxdrv: Found 6 processor cores.

However I already tried different combinations of previous kernels and virtualbox versions and the error persists. This is somewhat strange. Sometimes I was able to get proper drivers when reinstalling the whole stuff under failsafe mode a couple of times. But still not cleary reproducable.

OpenSUSE :: Recompiling VirtualBox Vboxadd Kernel Module, NOT. It Has Been Packaged

Jun 29, 2011

I just up-graded to the latest version of the stable 11.4 64bit kernel on my laptop and it appears that the repositories have not compiled the VirtualBox driver module for the current kernel ... When I make /vboxdrv setup the message is:

Recompiling VirtualBox vboxadd kernel module, NOT. It has been packaged

I think this means that the installed module will not recompile has it was packaged. My kernel version is the lattest :

And my VirtualBox was installed from the Virtualization repos ( even made the Vendor change and all. The version Before the lattest (4.0.4-1.6) did not work either. With the same problem. It is very easy to install VirtualBox from the Sun site and every time there is a Kernel up-date one can always make /etc/vboxdrv setup.

OpenSUSE :: VirtualBox Keeps Failing Even Though Ran "/init.d/vboxdrv Setup"?

Sep 4, 2010

I keep getting the error below even though I:

1. Added myself to vboxusers
2. Installed dkms
3. Ran the "sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup" command.

When I run "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup" it gives me the error: modprobe vboxdrv failed. use 'dmesg' to find out why

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'

as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. One other thing, I looked in the file system and there is no "/dev/vboxdrv". Is this correct?

1. upgrade to 3.1.4

2. create a symlink as follows

cd /usr/src/linux/include/linux

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Ath9k Module Loaded But Can't Connect To 802.11n Network?

I have an Acer 1551-4755 notebook with AR5B93 wireless chipset. ath9k is loaded and my card is detected as Atheros AR928X PCI-Express wireless network adapter. I am able to connect at wireless N speed with my D-Link DWA-130 usb dongle, but this is a rather backward solution. Is there a way to work around this issue, ie an updated ath9k or other madwifi driver? I would hate to resort to ndiswrapper for a natively supported chipset. After much tiddling'n'fiddling I finally got my new Linksys WUSB600N v2 working. Contrary to many posts, mine did NOT work with either the standard rt2870sta module, nor the updated version from the driver:wireless repo. Also the rt2870 version from the ralink website didn' t work. After a days worth of Googling I came across this post. The bottom line?

1. Download rt3572 from the Ralink website.
2. Add {USB_DEVICE(0x1737,0x0079)}, /* WUSB600N v2 */ to common/rtusb_dev_id.c
3. Follow README_STA

I did not install firmware packages. And be sure the rt2800sta module doesn' t get loaded. (you could just remove it, I suppose.)
