Mar 20, 2010I want to connect my mini dv camcorder to my pc and capture video, but I cannot load raw1394. When I try to "modprobe" it. It says:
"FATAL: Module raw1394 not found".
My kernel is 2.6.32-3-amd64
Should I compile it to kernel manually, if so how?

Sep 9, 2010I installed VirtualBox-OSE and VirtualBox-Kernel from the Slackbuilds at slackbuilds.org.When I start VirtualBox I get the following message on the CLI: Code: WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded.Either there is no module available for the current kernel (2.6.33.4-smp) or it failed to load.Please recompile the kernel module and install it by sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup.You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.I gave /etc/rc.d/rc.vboxdrv executable permissions, and then ran.The only issue is, I have to do this each time that I reboot, should I add 'modprobe vboxdrv' to one of the startup scripts or is something else wrong?

Reboot to old kernel 2.6.26-1 the said warning doesn't popup. Reboot again to kernel 2.6.26-2 and after login no kernel failure warning popup. I did it twice. IIRC I encountered this problem before.
OpenSUSE Install :: Raid10 Module Not Loaded In Installation Image?
Feb 13, 2010I am trying to install 11.2 on a system with RAID-1 /boot partition and RAID-10 /(root) partition. I have done this before with 10.3 but am hitting a wall with 11.2. In particular, the boot image loads and then halts when it tries to load the RAID-10 root partition saying that the personality is not laoded. modprobe shows that the raid10 module does not appear to be part of the boot image. I cannot find anything in the installation that will allow me to specify a module to include in the init image. How do I tell the installer to include an additional module?

Jul 24, 2010I have an Acer 1551-4755 notebook with AR5B93 wireless chipset. ath9k is loaded and my card is detected as Atheros AR928X PCI-Express wireless network adapter. However, the ath9k driver is only allowing me to connect at 802.11g speed in spite of the fact that my WRT310N loaded with DD-WRT is in mixed mode. I am able to connect at wireless N speed with my D-Link DWA-130 usb dongle, but this is a rather backward solution. Is there a way to work around this issue, ie an updated ath9k or other madwifi driver? I would hate to resort to ndiswrapper for a natively supported chipset. I am using openSuSE 11.3 for the first time, long time Fedora user.

Contrary to many posts, mine did NOT work with either the standard rt2870sta module, nor the updated version from the driver:wireless repo. Also the rt2870 version from the ralink website didn' t work. After a days worth of Googling I came across this post. The bottom line?
1. Download rt3572 from the Ralink website.
2. Add {USB_DEVICE(0x1737,0x0079)}, /* WUSB600N v2 */ to common/rtusb_dev_id.c
3. Follow README_STA
I did not install firmware packages. And be sure the rt2800sta module doesn' t get loaded. (you could just remove it, I suppose.)
General :: Write Kernel Module That Will DMA Custom Card?
Aug 31, 2010I am trying to write a kernel module that will DMA my custom card. Right now when i plug the card into linux no valid PCI device shows up (meaning I probably have a error on my end, i know) however, If I halt the system at startup in the bootloader (uboot) I am able to directly access the card as I know in uboot the physical memory address that is mapped to my device. Is there a way I can access the card in a simliar fashion in linux?

In the module's "read()" function, I'm returning the number of bytes that were copied into the user buffer. I saw some module code samples online and in most cases the "read()" function is returning the number of bytes read.The very strange behavior I saw in my case was, if I use a variable to return the value from the module's "read()" function, the user application reading from the module always saw "0".For instance:

Debian :: Using OpenSUSE Can't Read Or Write On The HDD
Aug 8, 2010I want to use dual Monitor on Debian Lenny amd64, I have the nVidia 8600 GTS. I googled several times, I have to change the xorg.conf (as it seems) but I can't - no rights.
And there's another thing... I have a dual boot system along with the openSUSE HDD but I can't open it. And using openSUSE I can't read or write on the Debian's HDD. How can I change that?

May 21, 2011I was about to do upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4.I was following the guide I found in opensuse's website. I was to the point where I had to disable all 11.3 repositories and add the 11.4 at that point I forgot to change my nvidia repository ( I have a g210m graphic card).
thus after the upgrade the X could not start at all. I think this was because Yast could not find the nvidia driver.
Using text mode YaSt2 I added the nvidia driver but after restart I can not see and X running. I receive an error message that the current kernel can not be loaded!!!
I also checked in command line if there is something like Sax2.. but I couldnot find anything.

(a) Samsung DVD-Burner SE-S084F/RSBS [not listed on Samsung site - too old ? ]
(b) LG DVD-Burner GE24NU21 USB2.0 [not listed on LG site - too old ? ]
(c) Super-Multi Portable DVD Rewrite (GP10 Lite USB2.0 Slimline) GP10NB20 (mentions Mac OS/X support, which is encouraging)
None of those are listed in the openSUSE HCL. Has anyone successfully used any of these with GNU/Linux (my google surfing on this revealed no GNU/Linux complaint nor any success stories) ? Or is there another such external USB-2.0 read/write DVD burner device that is recommended ?

The nvidia card hogs alsa, and it's really obnoxious because I don't use hdmi for audio (or video, for that matter, crt all day)
I would normally just blacklist the module that the card is using, but I hit a hiccup...

Aug 17, 2010I have had this error for way too long. This post will be done in parts. I've had it for months now and I'd like to solve it. Every suggestion on linux forums, ubuntu forums, or some XYZ-linux blog seems to either work for just one boot or none at all. since I have updated my kernel on several occasions, I have also re-installed my NVIDIA kernel module by downloading the run file from NVIDIA's website. It also follows instructions from this post. I have installed the linux header files and the xorg-dev files from repository
I have also tried this.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Fail To Initialize The NVIDIA Kernel Module?
Sep 29, 2010Problem: computer and graphics card had been running for months without problem. For some reason, last night, things locked up...wouldn't think it's related, but happened when I noticed I was locked out of creating new folders on my usb attached My Book storage drive. So, from terminal I tried to sudo change permissions to read/write. Everything locked up. Now, every time I reboot it states needing to use low graphics mode "Screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly."
When I check the error log I see: "(EE) Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module.."(EE) NVIDIA(0): ***Aborting* Screens found but none have a usable configuration. Fatal Server Error - no screens found"
If I try to then start in safe low graphics mode or restart X, I get the Ubuntu splash screen with the 5 dots that turn red to show progress...but nothing ever happens. I can switch to VT 1, login at command line, and type "startx" and then the graphical desktop loads just fine. Video playback, etc. is perfect and fine - not in low graphics mode at all. System seems totally normal.
However, I have to go through these steps each time I reboot. Also, I noticed that when I try to boot from Ubuntu Live CD I can't. I get as far as picking English as a language, then screen goes blank and goes to power saving mode (no signal being sent). This greatly concerns me as even though I have a work around for now - getting to command line then startx'ing - if I ever needed to reinstall from the CD, it seems I can't.
Some info on my pc:Running 10.04 on Compaq Presario SR1950NX AMD 64 GeForce 6150 LE/PCI/SSE2/3DNow! <- believe built onto motherboard on what I can do to fix? Is this a sign that something is wrong with my video card?

Feb 26, 2011before i get a lot of annoyed responses, I did check the forum and found a couple older previous threads on this topic, but they don't seem to really explain any real solutions to the problem im having.Here's the story- I was looking around for instructions and found this "howto guide" on installing nvidia display driver [URL]I went through the steps he listed:
downloaded the driver packages, install the dependencies from the shell, and then i pressed CTRL+ALT+F2 to get out of X and into text mode. I stopped my gdm with the command: sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stopand then i tried to install the driver using: sudo sh (on my NVIDIA driver- his version was a bit outdated compared to the one I downloaded)But here is where the problem starts, as I go through the installation process and click yes, i reach the "progress bar" then the screen says "unable to build the NVIDIA kernel module". and then it just exits. What is going on here? Am I missing some other package or file?

May 1, 2011I just installed OpenSUSE 11.4 x64 as a fresh full-install last week. Seems to be running great, up until the last couple days when I installed AVG. Every time I do a avgscan, it runs for 20 to 60 min, and then causes the PC to reboot. The only thing I can find is the following event in the /var/log/messages:

I get this result every time I try to do a virus scan. I also have seen this result once when doing a large scp transfer from another Suse box. The AVG log just terminates and gives no warnings as to what's going wrong.
Are there any other logs I can check out to try to troubleshoot this further???
