I have recenly upgraded my avast. But it windges. Warning SHM limit is set to 33554432 enlarge kernel.shmmax Ok how? presumable I have to re compile the kernel?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently moved over to opensuse 11.4 (never used any Linux before), I have installed all updates and am using the latest KDE. (I am using a laptop, not sure if this is relevant) I have found using the system fairly easy and found all the help I need either here, or out on the net. However, I cannot find much information about the above error message that I sometimes get. I have only noticed this error occasionally when I resume from sleep mode, or when I turn the computer off. I haven't seen the message anywhere else (pop up window, konsole etc) Sometimes the skipped probes is as high as 70, other times as low as 10. I don't know what it is scanning(?)

When upgrade to 10.04 attempted the following errors occur:-
1. Missing Resources warning - " The Networkmanager Applet could not find some required resources. It cannot continue."
When I click OK wireless connection is totally lost with no means of reconnecting.
2. Download progresses but freezes at the download of "Preparing memtest86+"
if this is log spam or significant stuff, and what I should do about it? I grabbed the latest build of [URL] the new fork of OO (git download) and ran ./autogen.sh

It leaves little confidence that I am getting a good setup. My distro is slamd64-12.2 (An excellent first attempt) I did check the redhat page, but it may have as well been in Fortran or Perl.
My problem is to get postfix working with a smarthost, to send mails from home with dynamic IP, and which needs authentication. I did exactly the same with Slackware 12.2 (postfix 2.6.2) and it worked. Now I tried to do with 2.6.2 (actual running version is 2.7.0 with the same problem) on Slackware 13 64bit. I noticed today I downloaded the amd64 netinst ISO for 'testing' and during the installation, it warned me of a the fact that I was installing using the 2.6.30.x kernel and I am now attempting to install a 2.6.32.x kernel. Is this is a common warning because I have never seen it before. I got it with both the netist & the businesscard image. Has anyone seen this before and is this a problem? Just trying to understand whats going on under the hood. I don't have the error in front of me since I am on my phone away from the office.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the full desktop .iso and burnt it to a pen-drive. Firstly I installed it on my main laptop and it runs flawlessly. With the Aspire One however, though it boots into live mode and works well, after installing and rebooting all I am left with is a flashing prompt in the top left hand corner. I left it for up to an hour thinking it may be slow to boot as its a fresh install but nothing. I booted again into the live distro and checked my hard drive. As far as I can tell everything is there. So Ubuntu installed which made me think the problem was with grub. From the live cd I installed grub using the commands:

>sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/0d104aff-... /dev/sda
I rebooted but now I only have the grub prompt. When I type boot I get a warning saying that the kernel needs to be installed first. So why is 10.10 not booting? What else can I do to fix this problem?
I am an old Debian user, ho just reinstalled it again to see how it evolved since my las version (3.2). I am sharing it with Arch Linux, And decided to let bot of them. I am using GDM compiled and configured in Arch, and removed GDM2 from Debian (i just like the easy menu.list from the old GDM). The problem is that when i update the kernel, it didn't fing GDM and drops an error message. I tried removing the distro-preconfigured Kernels, as i compiled my own 3.0.0-rc2 Kerenel, but i cant delete the previous ones. Now everytime i do an install or uptgrade, apt-get drops wastes some time, and drops an error message:

What can i do? i googled some similar errors, but where just messed up mirror.lists, or similar, i know it isnt the cause of fail.

We have configured autossh successfully to create/manage the ssh tunnel into mail server in order to dump all emails to localhost port.
To auto start autossh in boot time we have included following into /etc/rc.d/rc.local,

Now we have a requirement that logwatch reports should get delivered via the same ssh tunnel rather than installing postfix and configuring as a relay.

Reboot to old kernel 2.6.26-1 the said warning doesn't popup. Reboot again to kernel 2.6.26-2 and after login no kernel failure warning popup. I did it twice. IIRC I encountered this problem before.
I recently did a fresh install of current and once I had it up and running I compiled a fresh 2.6.33 kernel using my old config file, but now I get this warning durning boot, specifically during module loading WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/sound, it will be ignored in a future release. This doesn't seem to be causing any problems but I am curious to know what the message meams? I checked /etc/modprobe but everything looks normal.

I do not know if this is really something I should worry about. I am running Debian testing on my laptop (HP Pavillon dv6). Today, the aptitude update---aptitude upgrade gave me a new kernel (2.6.39). However, if I boot with that kernel, I get a warning (do not know if that is the way I should call this) telling me that the machine failed to get the i915 symbols so turbo graphics will be disabled.I have not done any serious test, but at first sight I do not notice any difference performance-wise with respect to the previous kernel. what am I supposed to do to fix this?

I do not think this is related to the issue. I added the virtualbox repository and installed the program via yast. when I type "VirtualBox" in the terminal I get the following output:

I used mkinitrd to build an initrd from the slackware 2.6.37.6 sources. Lilo throws the following: "Warning: The initial RAM disk is too big to fit between the kernel a the 15M-16M memory hole. Also, I am running swap, / and home on an encrypted volume group. When the initrd boots (but prior to mounting the encrypted vg) I get a message saying that no modules are found-sounds like a daft question but is this expected? I expect that this is because initrd is looking for modules, but can't find them because the relevant partition isn't mounted.
I just got my hands on a IBM Thinkpad T40 with a broken M$ WinXP. I used one of my old Kubuntu Intrepid LiveCDs. When I entered Virtual Console 1, I discovered that the kernel spams my session with errors, forcing me to use KDE Konsole. Later, I discovered that the LiveCD does not install due to read errors, and decided to install LFS. LFS still has that problem, which prevents me from directly booting into it (I don't have X yet, and I can't do a lot on the console with my display getting spammed),

and I've noticed that the new kermel have been installed (2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.x86_64).
After that installation .. my camputer has several errors while booting and it doesn't want to start. So while booting I can see Code...

I un-installed all packages that I downloaded and removed all references to the attempted kernel and I thought it was over. Today I tried to install xubuntu-desktop and the install exits with a dpkg errros that refers to that old custom kernel attempt. I run dpkg as instructed (see below):

I am dual-booting with Windoze XP and just this week notice 2 new ubuntu kernel lines in grub when my computer boots.
Not too sure what to do now - it seems I can't install or remove anything. Also, update manager does not work.
i've got a server (blade on chassis) using Centos5.6. One partition is a LUN on SAN and the hardware used is a QLogic QMI3472 (qla2xxx driver) the kernel used is 2.6.18-238.12.1.el5

I've tried to upgrade to Centos to 5.7 and upgrade the kernel with yum install kernel. The upgraded kernel is 2.6.18-274.3.1.el5.
But this bug seem to be corrected in 2.6.20 branch. Is the patch provided to the link inlcuded in kernel-2.6.18-274.3.1.el5???
For the record, I'm having the same issue as the OP with Lucid with a backported 2.6.35-28 kernel and a Samsung scx-4623fw printer hooked up via USB. Same symptoms - lsusb hangs until the printer is unplugged, devices aren't recognized, etc. Dmesg output includes a bunch of device descriptor errors:
