I just got my hands on a IBM Thinkpad T40 with a broken M$ WinXP. I used one of my old Kubuntu Intrepid LiveCDs. When I entered Virtual Console 1, I discovered that the kernel spams my session with errors, forcing me to use KDE Konsole. Later, I discovered that the LiveCD does not install due to read errors, and decided to install LFS. LFS still has that problem, which prevents me from directly booting into it (I don't have X yet, and I can't do a lot on the console with my display getting spammed),
I want to learn Java3D and using Eclipse now my java programs work, but when I run Java3D programms then there are full of errors (I think I dont have java 3D library or something is missing)

I upgraded from 13.0 to 13.1 and now I have strange behaviors with the printer. It is an Epson Stylus Photo RX640. It was working well with the vanilla Gutenprint 5.2.2 that came in Slack 13.0. The printer is shared and used from other slackware boxes and a mac. Upgrade to 13.1 (gutenprint gets to be 5.2.4) ...
Now when I print from the machine that has the printer attached I get full black pages, and cups shows errors. The Mac is still able to print well (probably because it is using its own PPD and passing through directly to the printer). I then removed gutenprint, and then removed the 5.2.2 PPDs (that were still in the system). Reinstalled gutenprint from the Slackware 13.1 distro. And the problem persists.
I un-installed all packages that I downloaded and removed all references to the attempted kernel and I thought it was over. Today I tried to install xubuntu-desktop and the install exits with a dpkg errros that refers to that old custom kernel attempt. I run dpkg as instructed (see below):

I cannot run apt-get until I try to figure out where this error is.
For the record, I'm having the same issue as the OP with Lucid with a backported 2.6.35-28 kernel and a Samsung scx-4623fw printer hooked up via USB. Same symptoms - lsusb hangs until the printer is unplugged, devices aren't recognized, etc. Dmesg output includes a bunch of device descriptor errors:
[603.091961] usb 7-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 9 [618.241335] usb 7-1: device descriptor read/64, error -110 [633.521986] usb 7-1: device descriptor read/64, error -110
I suddenly started having a bunch of USB issues (including complete system locks whenever I plugged in a logitech USB mic) around early march with the stock lucid kernel. Everything was fine before that.
I just activated backports and partners and I got it.

I just bought a newish asus x83vm-x2 and am dual-booting seven and lucid lynx. On my last two computers I had migrated completely to Ubuntu, but windows 7 has a few compelling features...Anyways- I'm having issues upgrading the kernel on my fresh install of ubuntu (not that it matters, but I installed via jump drive). In update manager, the kernel upgrades are grayed out.
In synaptic, I get these (current kernel version is 2.6.32.21.22 btw)-
Code: linux-generic: Depends: linux-image-generic (=2.6.32.24.25) but 2.6.32.21.22 is to be installed linux-image-generic:[code]....
It appears as thought "linux-image-2.6.32-24-generic" is not in the repository... but if that were the case, you'd think that my machine would just auto-update to an earlier version. IDK- I'm confuddled.
I've got a Lucid system (normal Ubuntu, not any of the derivative distros) which has been throwing up the following error message this morning when trying to boot:
Code: error: couldn't read file. error: you need to load the kernel first.
I've run today command: "sudo yum update" and I've noticed that the new kermel have been installed (2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.x86_64). After that installation .. my camputer has several errors while booting and it doesn't want to start. So while booting I can see Code...
I'm having some issues on a server running redhat for specific application and lately it has been for some reason kicking out some services. I just checked the Logwatch mail on the root user and here is one of the main error:
i've got a server (blade on chassis) using Centos5.6. One partition is a LUN on SAN and the hardware used is a QLogic QMI3472 (qla2xxx driver) the kernel used is 2.6.18-238.12.1.el5
and i've got a lot of error message when i used the LUN partition with this log kernel (complete log attached to this message)
I am trying to compile a patch for HDMI audio, reference this thread [URL]
Code: Instructions: - download alsa-driver-1.0.21 from alsa homepage - unpack downloaded alsa: $ tar jxvf alsa-driver-1.0.21.tar.bz2
- download and apply my patch $ wget http: [URL] $ cd alsa-driver-1.0.21 $ patch -p 1 < ../alsa-driver-1.0.21-nvidia-ion2-hdmi.patch
- compile alsa $ ./configure $ make $ make install when I do ./configure it outputs this
Code: The file /lib/modules/2.6.33.7-pclos6.bfs/source/include/linux/autoconf.h does not exist. Please install the package with full kernel sources for your distribution or use --with-kernel=dir option to specify another directory with kernel sources (default is /lib/modules/2.6.33.7-pclos6.bfs/source). How can I direct it to install with the 'full kernel sources' ?
I am running a headless Ubuntu 10.04 server with the 2.6.32-28-generic kernel. For what I can figure out no single direct cause I get a high load average and the following syslog output at random intervals. Generally the load average will drop back down to normal however the kernel errors will still continue What little I have been able to find has pointed to memory issues. I am not totaly convinced this is the cause as the server will be showing >50% free when the errors are happening.
I'm running BackTrack4r2 which is based on Intrepid. I'm pulling my hair out over this problem. As I try to install VMWare Server 2.0 I'm getting stuck at a question the installer poses: Where are the kernel header files located? It would make sense that they're in /usr/src/linux-2.6.35.8 but when I put that it just says there's no subfolder "linux" as expected and to try again. If I use the default location that VMWare says (/lib/modules/2.6.35.8/build/include) I get an error:
I tried to install Ubuntu on a Toshiba laptop today. When I tried booting with Lynx, threw out a bunch of errors about kernel threads. When I tried Karmic, it would only boot with Safe Graphics (everything else hangs the system), but nothing is ever displayed. I hear the Ubuntu start-up sound but the display stays blank. Does anyone have any advice on installing Ubuntu on this system?

I've getting strange build errors when using make-kpkg with the latest (2.6.39-rc5) vanilla kernel.I'm using the procedure outlined here: https:[url]....e.g.:
Code: Building modules, stage 2. MODPOST 3053 modules WARNING: modpost: Found 60 section mismatch(es). To see full details build your kernel with:'make CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH=y' CC arch/x86/crypto/aesni-intel.mod.o[code]....
There is even much more error output but it looks like it is basically the same issue.

I have a few mail servers (CentOS 5.5) that are running OSSEC Active Response (2.5.1) on Iptables (1.3.5-5.3.el5_4.1). We are currently having a problem where we get loop hook errors:Jan 24 04:15:03 servername kernel: iptables: loop hook 1 pos 464080 00000022 this is the firewall-drop.sh we are currently using:

I am running Valgrind on my program. It shows me two errors but mentions only addresses against them and not actual code even on a debug build.

This obnoxious bar has just appeared in Smplayer at the top of the screen. It stays there even when I go full screen. Now full screen isn't full screen and there are black edges on both sides of the screen. I have not be able to figure out how to hide it. I do not need or want this onscreen display. How can I configure Smplayer to make this go away? How can I get my 16:9 full screen aspect ratio back? I have done nothing to mplayer or smplayer as far as editing any or changing any configuration files. I tried several videos and it displays on all of them. It was not there last time I used Smplayer.
