I have a Xerox printer, Phaser 3160. On the cd that comes with the printer i got a file for linux called "P3160.tar.gz".
Having extracted this file I found the content as listed below:
These are the files in the linux dir,nothing in the other dirs

As there is no ./configure file, what do i have to do to install the drivers for the printer
I am using Suse 11.3
I just upgrade to Fedora 11.

I have a Samsung CLP-315 that I need to configure first as a local printer then as a wireless network printer. I found the software (.bin file) on the Samsung site and downloaded it but that's as far as I got. Can I use any of the GUI package managers or do I need to use Terminal and command line syntax? Here's the real question "what is the syntax for installing software/drivers?"

I was able install the printer drivers for a Brother network laser printer (HL-5370DW) and would like to install the drivers on a few other computers on my small home network. Is there a way to automate this process by pushing them out to the other computers, or should I just manually install them? It wasn't difficult, just wondering if there is a slick way to do this.

I have read this wiki page but unfortunately it is a little old. I still have followed/adapted the instructions there but it fails on my system on step 6. I will explain below.
Latest Canon drivers in the official website is v3.10. US version of it can be obtained from here.
When I try to install .deb package in the driver file archive I get following output:

Ubuntu 10.04 and have a problem with loading the Linux printer drivers for my new Lexmark printer. When I try to load up the printer driver downloaded from the Lexmark site I am asked to enter a root administrator password, but when I enter the password I used to setup the OS it will not accept it. I have reviewed the "sudo" terminal password info, but as I am a newbie I was concerned about wrecking the installation.

It is a printer with standalone network capability and is connected directly to my router and has a static IP number. We have a few Windows computers at home and they had no problem detecting the printer, installing the drivers and working. Unfortunately my Ubuntu computer recognises the printer and I can even access it's setup and diagnositcs through its IP number. However when I try to add it as a printer, drivers for it cannot be located. #ve tried setting it up three ways:1. Using Samsung's own setup package - finds printer and all the details it needs to work but offers no drivers2. Using Ubuntu's printer setup - recognises printer but stalls at Searching for Drivers dialog3. Trying to *** printer using CUPS - no problem finding and recognising printer, but when I come to search for the driver I get Internal Server Error.
I have of course been trying to do all of these as root. That's the limit of my knowledge reached and searches on the net aren't helping me either. The printer works fine directly connected via USB, so the drivers are on the computer somewhere. How do I get them set up to use the printer on the network?
I have Fedora 12 distro. I tried to use commandls | lpr for fun but the error message has arised I dont have the printer, the driver for it, if to say more precisely. But when I inserted the disk with software, the CD-ROM disappeared from my computer. What should I do to install it? I have no experience installing something yet.

I've been running Xubuntu 9.04 for the past couple of months but have difficulty installing my Canon MX-860 wireless printer. Everything else works perfectly and connects wirelessly to internet. Since I run a couple of other Win based computers, printing from the Toshiba 1100 laptop hasn't been a problem. It would be an advantage. I tried to install the latest Xubuntu distro on the Toshiba and it installed but could not connect to the wireless Atheros card. Where should I start? get Distro 10.04 working first or try and install the printer with the existing distro?

I was wandering if anyone may know of a way to install it or if anyone knows of any other available drivers. View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have the need to install an older Linux distribution (Suse 10) on a brand new laptop. The kernel that comes with Suse 10 doesn't have new enough drivers for the NIC and the drive controller. We've been able to find the source code for the NIC and build a working NIC kernel module however, we can not find the source code for the drive controller outside the kernel tree. Newer kernels see the drive fine; the controller is the Intel ATA_PIIX. Its included in the kernel, the hardware we have it just newer than the version in the old suse 10 kernel supports. I've crawled all over the intel site looking for the code outside the kernel source and have been unable to do so. Is it possible to lift the code from a newer kernel source tree? Is it available for download anywhere?
Edit: (from a comment below) SLED-10-SP2-x86 is the OS. The installation of these systems in an automated process, trying to change the process to include a VM (if we had the memory) or install a different base OS; while doable- can't be done in the time allowed. To get through process development, testing, UAT, staging and deployment takes much longer than the time we have. The old laptop had this same issue and the fix by my predecessor was building the NIC and drive modules by hand. We need to simply update those modules for this new laptop

However, I would like this to be under my control to insert as and when needed. Can anyone give any pointers as to how I might disable auto-insertion, whilst still allowing manual insertion via insmod or modprobe? View 2 Replies View RelatedI have scoured the web the last few hours and I have come across a plethora of similar problems relating to Ubuntu and Nvidia drivers. However, I still havent found a sufficient cure for the problem.
The exact problem I face is that as soon as I install the Nvidia recommended drivers using the "Hardware Driver Manager", I restart the system but it never gets past the login splash screen. After I log in it simply goes to a black screen and sits like this indefinately.
Does anyone know of a particular fix for this problem? I am at the end of my tether and there is no way I can use Linux if it means either getting a different graphics driver or sitting on a 800*600 resolution. (Not to mention I dont have acclerated 3d support...so no DVD playing!)
