General :: Installing Sound Drivers For Rhel5 - Not Getting Any Voice In My Headphones
Feb 6, 2011
I have installed vlc player on my system using wine. In the task bar, the volume control is working fine and songs also get played in the vlc player. But i am not getting any voice in my headphones.
Following i am giving the results of few commands, which can help you people in giving me the best decision
I have a Acer Aspire One netbook running Lucid Lynx.Sound quality is fine through my speakers, but when I plug in headphones things go awry. The headphones are working because the speakers mute and I can hear musical instruments playing on the track, but I can't hear any of the voices in the music. It's as if the voices are muted, but I can still hear the guitars, drums, bass, etc. When I unplug the headphones the track plays normally, voices and all, through the speakers.
I just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. Everything works well, but I have problem with sound. Output is OK as I can hear any sound from the computer; but there is no input sound from the mic. I am unable to record any voice or talk in voice chat.
when my headphones are plugged into my computer, the sound comes from both the speakers AND the headphones. I just want the sound from the headphones if they are plugged in.
I'm having an issue with my computer and the headphones. When I plug in the headphones into the headphone jack, the sound plays through the headphones but it also plays through the speakers as well at the same time. I've attempted to play around with the sound settings to see if I can get this issue resolved but I have not been able too. Computer specifications are in my signature.
My usb sound card has been identified by alsamixer, however it won't make any sound when i put headphones in it. The volume is up, I know the sound card works.
I installed redhat enterprise Linux 5 on an acer laptop to dual boot with windows vista the nic works perfectly with windows but does not work with the RHEL5.
Ok, so I have Linux Mint 7 "Gloria", using kernel 2.6.28-11. I got a new GeForce 8400GS and replaced my ATi pile of sh*t with it no problem, Mint starts up fine as if nothing happened. code...
Everything seems fine, so I reboot and all seems fine, except when I try to play music or a video I get no sound at all. I'm fairly certain that something in the first links instructions (the Ubuntu ones) removed something it shouldn't have, but I have no idea what to look for.
I have bought a laptop 2 months ago with pre installed windows7 and installed Ubuntu 10.04 64bit but still didnt get sound from the speakers. With headphones everything is OK . I have unmuted everything and searched forums but nothing so far. In windows I get speaker sound so it is not hardware problem. In alsamixer it appears I have 2 soundcards, one HDA -intel (chip Realtek ALC272) and a second one HDA nvidia ( a virtual one propably from my nvidia VGA ) that lacks controls . With lspci -v , it appears both use the same driver :Kernel driver in use: HDA IKernel modules: snd-hda-intel . Tried to disable the first one from bios but it didnt help I also tried sound adjustment in preferences -> sound and gnome-alsamixer, nothing. From gnome alsamixer, when I mute speakers, the headphones also get mute so may be the system doesnt recognize speakers and headphones separately? May be it has to do with config files but my linux knowledge is low.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and I had the sound on my Toshiba satellite laptop working and everything is fine-except for the built in mic..no response at all, I had to switch to windows whenever I want to use the mic "etc, skype calls"I Googled a little bit and upon this adviseI disabled alsa drivers using the commandssudo update-rc.d -f alsa removesudo update-rc.d -f alsa-utils remove and then downloaded oss debian package and installed it, as the advise said. But the result now is that I have no sound at all !! no mice nor speakers...any clue how to fix this ? how to enable alsa drivers again and return to"speakers working-mic not working ?
I currently dont have the cd/dvd of RHEL 5. But i need to install gcc. I have been searching all day but wasnt able to find any rpm that is related to RHEL5. I download the following file
gcc-3.0.4.tar.gz
and extracted it, Then i run the following command
[root@WAN-Admin gcc-3.0.4]# ./configure Configuring for a i686-pc-linux-gnu host. Created "Makefile" in /root/new/gcc-3.0.4 using "mt-frag" /tmp/cNf11430/cNf11430.pos: line 7: cc: command not found *** The command 'cc -o conftest -g conftest.c' failed. *** You must set the environment variable CC to a working compiler.
Now i am really hanged as what to do now. I added rpmfusion as my yum repo, i searched rpmpbone.net for gcc file for RHEL5 but it seems its not there for this version.
i have a linux mechine, in that i want to install solaris throug xen virtualization. (solaris content is in CD) while i am doing this there is an option "local install media" in installation method it was not highlighting so i can't install this. then what can i do now.
I am using redhat linux EL5. I am using kernel version 2.6.18-8.el5. In this I want to install mp3 player. I don't know which player is best in redhat. What is the procedure for installing player in redhat. Where I can download RPM Packages.
The only thing really missing from this install is this issue with the sound. I've searched all over the forums and i found one thing where you get the model and codecs and write them to a file, however, I can't seem to find what my "model" is because none of the postings have anything about Lenovo laptops. Here is the command they all asked for:
Code:
With that info, how do I get the model, and how do I get my speakers to stop playing when headphones are plugged in. Also, I don't have any software installed like pulse audio either, so it's not that.
I am new to fedora 13. My problem is that I can not hear any sound from my laptop's internal speakers (that works f9 in windows--so no h/w probs!) but when I connect external headphones, everything is heard.I have tried several commands from various internet sources since past one week. I don't understand many of the commands that I have run, but that has somehow helped me to run media files and hear sound on HEADPHONES.
I have sound on my main speakers and I can control volume from the desktop's icon tray volume control on the screen. However, my headphones were working just fine until all of a sudden they just stopped working. I tried other headphones but no change. Also, my volume control on my keyboard suddenly stopped working too.Any ideas how I can get the headphones and keyboard volume control working again?
Does anyone know of a commercial program that will run on openSUSE?I need something that is fairly user friendly, identifies individual voices, and does not require Wine. The machine is to be completely controlled by voice and would be programmed to issue vocals in response to vocal requests for what is in the various databases and I/O software, such as motion control and other sensor subsystems. In other words, a program that lends itself to AI robotics.I do not have the time to develop CMSphinx, and I am willing to pay. I have been on a few sites but they are cryptic as far as the technicals, which I do not fully understand anyway.
I use gmail's Google Voice plugin to get calls while in the mail browser. I have a usb headset attached to my PC that I currently can output my voice chat from things like Mangler to, so I know my setup is capable of routing specific apps thru specific output devices. My issue comes form being unable to find anywhere to specifically set voice traffic thru my headset as I did while in windows. How do I do this so I don't have to quickly change my sound output when a call comes in? Or is there at least some kind of button or toggle to make that change without having to open the sound prefs menu?
I am final year MCA student. I like to do my project in Linux. I know a little in C. I am pursuing RHCE certification. I am using rhel5. I am interested to write linux device drivers and willing to do my project in that.
I'm a beginner with Fedora, I decided a few weeks ago to test it. Yet, I have some trouble with the sound. I have two cards: Code: lspci | grep -i audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06) 01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation Device 0be9 (rev a1) When I have done the installation the sound work great, but now I have to use my headphones if I want to heard something.
I have done a bit of a search for this and would normally do more but as I am on holiday and have just upgraded my mother in law's machine to 10.04 and only here tomorrow then back home (750Kms away) I am hoping the community can speed things up a little.
Open Pulse Volume Control and headset mic working because input meter shows it, plays audio cause output meter shows it, but the analogue headset headphones give me no sound.
All seems to be working fine but just not getting through to headphones. This is with all apps (Skype, Totem).
pointers on troubleshooting audio? I have tried various headphones but there is no sound.System details are as follows:- SuSE Linux 11.1- KDE 4.1.3- Foxconn 661FXME motherboard- Onboard audio, 5.1 channel, AC97 interface (Realtek), ALC655 chip
I've got a 5yr old Sony Vaio TT that works like a charm with Jessie amd64... only the headphones output is not working.
When I plug the headphones in, the laptop speakers get muted, but I get no sound from the headphones
I've got Gnome & default pulseaudio installed, and I've played with all switches in alsamixer / gnome-alsamixer / pavucontrol with no luck.
It's an Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) card that uses snd-hda-intel & snd-hda-codec-realtek modules among others; in /etc/modprobe.d I've added a .conf file with "options snd-hda-intel model=sony-vaio-tt" in it, but same behaviour...
my speakers work fine. However, there are 6 2.5ml audio jacks on the back of this soundcard, and I should like to be able to use more than 1- I have my headphones plugged in to the blue (normally line out) socket, and the mic plugged into the pink (normally mic) socket.A bunch of google searches reported that I'm not the only person to have had sound issues- but most of them seemed to be pertaining to laptops not switching off speakers when the headphones were plugged in- which is hardly relevant!
I have a problem with sound on a laptop (ASUS X52Je). I have sound from the speakers and in headphones when headphones are connected (jack). Earlier on ubuntu (gnome) after connecting headphones, speakers in the laptop is automatically muted.I would like that when you plug headphones music was only in them, and after disconnecting automatically returned to the speakers in a laptop.
I just installed OpenSUSE 11.3/KDE4 and now I have no sound from the headphone jack. I checked Kmix and everything is fine.I do remember that in OpenSUSE 11.2 I had this similar problem which I solved by switching ON/OFF the "Independent HP" option in Kmix. The problem with 11.3 is that this option is not available in Kmix.
