View 3 RepliesI have googled it profusely but still am quite confused about how to remove an svn repository:I have accidentally imported the contents of a directory into the repo instead of the directory itself and now I need to remove everthing from the repo (in fact i would like to just delete the repo and re-create it)."you can svn delete directories, but if you want to get rid of the entire repo forever-ever, just delete the database file from your repo directory. since the project info is self-contained in its .svn directory, the correct way to delete a repository is actually to delete the directory. "
- what is this 'database file' being referring to?
- what is 'the directoy' being referred to?
Libre Office can be removed from Ubuntu 11.04 without making a mess of an installation but when I began ot attempt the same with Debian I was concerned it would take too much necessary stuff with it requiring a fresh install. I use Abiword and don't need Open Office. Can it be removed somehow cleanly? How would I do this? I partly want to do this as there seem to be a lot of Open Office-related Updates which is waste of my Mobile Broadband limit.I am using Debian 6.01, 64 bit Gnome edition.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen installing Debian, I had to left out 2 windows partition because I originally thought I could install Debian into Windows C: drive. Then I knew I had been wrong. After I moved the data of the 2 partitions out of the hard disk today, I want to merge these partitions into the linux file system. Is this possible without a reinstall? How can I do this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedDepending on whether I launched it with gnome do or the main menu I got a different 'version' of spotify, I could tell this because it had different searches remembered. I tried removing wine and spotify and gnome do via synaptic and completely remove and then the option to remove configuration files left over. I did a search and there were loads of wine files left so I just deleted. When I reinstalled wine, spotify and gnome do the same problem occurred.
Also Firefox started crashing ubuntu, just freezing it, so I tried to uninstall completely, but when I restarted it kept the same add ons and still crashed. So I uninstalled again and tried to delete all firefox folders but I can't work out how to do it as root.
I've just bought an acer aspire one and didn't know the OS was linux. I thought I'd give it a go anyway. I've been researching how to change the desktop type and discovered i need a script reading/writing program to do this. a bit more research told me to download the nano program. I've now done this but have no idea how to go about installing the software.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a Debian testing system on a laptop that used to have Windows 8 on it. I kept the EFI boatloader and its partition, but now every time the system boots, it first tries to boot into Windows (which isn't there anymore). Removing /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft just leads to an error message when booting, with some component of Windows still trying to load and not finding those files.
The workaround for now is to go into the UEFI boot menu on every boot and selecting the "debian" entry, which works but is a bit cumbersome. How can I get rid of the Microsoft loader completely? I find a lot about repairing or re-adding the Windows bootloader, but nothing about removing it.
I've tried ubuntu, and could never get my sound working with that, so I tried fedora and had the exact same problem there. After a few days of trying to figure it out I decided to give up because it was really getting ridiculous, and I just want to go back to windows where things simply work.
Now the problem is that when I boot from the windows XP install disc, it doesnt recognise anything on my harddrive and just gives me the blue screen when I press any key (after showing me the list of partitions on my harddrive, all of which are <UNKNOWN>). I'm not sure what the problem is but it must be something to do with the fact that I have linux installed, so is there any way I can completely remove Fedora and just start fresh with XP?The only 2 options that the XP install disc gives me are 1) Install windows XP (I get blue screen), or 2) Recover windows XP installation (I dont have xp installed anyway).
Likewise, booting from my Fedora install disc only gives me the options of installing or rescuing Fedora, but not the option of removing it.
I installed Red hat linux 5.4 on my VMware workstation and it worked finem but the filesize of linux was not as per my requirements. VMware only gave 3GB to my root (/) which is very small. How can I adjust the filesize of linux while installing it on VMware.

I don't have an an external dvd drive. I don't have a scusi dvd drive I don't have a pci card for ide or sata connections I have fedora core 14 installed on it (although so far have failed to get the internet to work on the server - but that is a separate issue and probably not worth fixing if I am going to change OS)I have downloaded the dvd, copied the iso to fedora - using a USB pen Mounted the dvd within fedora - but it seems it needs to run on boot I've tried installing the dvd onto a pen drive (ie bootable) - which works on my pc - but the server doesn't seem to like the idea of booting from USB.
I can get Redhat 6 enterprise server on cd. But it there is a simple work around I'd be greatful too.
I am regretably a complete rooky so please make any instructions very simple.
I know you are thinking why is a complete rooky trying to install a redhat server - the only answer to that is - why not - gotta learn sometime.
I got the dvd iso from: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/rhel...00000000000000

I'm trying to install mysql-workbench on RedHat 5 Desktop - this is what I was given, didn't pick it.I found an appropriate RPM that I downloaded from the MySQL site, but it's asking for several dependencies that I don't know how to track down.
Here's the error message I get:

The packages that aren't installed, I'm just not sure what aI should be looking for to install them. how EXACTLY would you suggest I fix this? By exactly I mean, the dependency you are missing is part of the following package, type yum install "packagename" to fix this.

However the issue I am having is that at the end of running tests using make test I get the following output 30 tests and 225 subtests skipped. Failed 56/178 test scripts, 68.54% okay. 1428/5109 subtests failed, 72.05% okay. make: *** [test_dynamic] Error 255
I'm willing to post the output of the make test command, but Its wayy too huge.. I can provide you further details and paste only the required outputs..

I got a laptop from a friend. For some reason, it loaded the grub off of an SD card (He was running Xubuntu), so I tried re-installing Ubuntu itself on the hard-drive, completely ignoring the SD card. It wont work. The guy who sold the laptop to me took a look at it, and he's alright with Linux, but he can't figure out what's wrong with it. I tried adding my own partition tables, and they look something like this:
sda1 / 20G
sda2 /home 130G
sda3 SWAP 10G
I know it's more swap than I should have, but I plan on upgrading the RAM.Anyways, we're both completely lost. I think we want it to load a grub menu at this point because one isn't loading.
I currently have a hosting provider that has Redhat installed on my server. I can't get to that server physically, I can only SSH into it. Is there anyway I can install Ubuntu Server 10.4 LTS on there via SSH to go over the Redhat on there ?

No login menu. I held down the power button and rebooted three times, all stuck at Plymouth.Yeah I can reinstall Ubuntu, I have the disk, but there are many configs that I did, that I do not remember.

Is it possible to install a different windows manager?Currently I am using a HP Netbook 210. The windows manager I am using is gnome-shell that comes as default with Fedora 15. However, I am wondering if I could completely remove this and install a different windows manager. For example I would like to try the xfce 4.8.
I am not talking about completely removing Fedora 15 and then installing Fedora 15 xfce spin. Just the window manager. How easy would it be to remove gnome-shell windows manager and then install xfce 4.8 windows manager?
I have an issue with packages. When I try to install any package then I receive error like this one below.
e.g. install Lynx:
Code:
# apt-get -f install lynx
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libperl5.10: Depends: perl-base (= 5.10.0-19lenny3) but 5.10.0-19lenny2 is to be installed
libsnmp15: Depends: libsnmp-base (>= 5.4.1~dfsg-12) but it is not going to be installed
lynx: Depends: lynx-cur (>= 2.8.7dev9-2.1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
So I decided to remove libperl5.10 which apparently mess. But its not that easy, just take a look:
Code:
# apt-get --purge remove libperl5.10
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libsnmp15: Depends: libsnmp-base (>= 5.4.1~dfsg-12) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libperl5.10 (>= 5.10.0) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
...and now I don't know what to do ?
