Ubuntu :: Bluetooth And Skype \ Make A Call Using These Headphones With Skype, Can Speak For Say 10 Seconds And Then The Headset Disconnects Completely From The System?

Aug 12, 2010

I recently bought a IOgear USB bluetooth adapter and a Sony DRBT101/BLK bluetooth headphones to use with my computer.Whenever I try to make a call using these headphones with skype, I can speak for say 10 seconds and then the headset disconnects completely from the system. I then have to reconnect the headset by switching it off and on. I do not have this problem listening to music using A2DP. It works fine with my mobile phone. When I change the profile to Telephony Duplex (HSP/HFP), it shows up as hands free, I thought it should be headset in blueman manager. My friend uses Plantronics headset with is Dell laptop with built in bluetooth and he says his comes up as headset not hands free. Could this be causing the problem?

Debian :: How To Uninstall Skype Completely

Jan 27, 2016

I'm learning the apt-get package system, and I'm a little unsure of myself. Before I start removing packages/software, I want to make sure that I'm initially taking the proper approach.

Below is a script that I've used to successfully install Skype into Debian 8.2 "Jessie" 64-bit. (This script is a slightly modified version taken from: wiki.debian.org/skype). I want to know the right way to uninstall it.

Code: Select allsu
dpkg --add-architecture i386
apt-get update
apt-get install libc6:i386 libqt4-dbus:i386 libqt4-network:i386 libqt4-xml:i386 libqtcore4:i386 libqtgui4:i386 libqtwebkit4:i386 libstdc++6:i386 libx11-6:i386 libxext6:i386 libxss1:i386 libxv1:i386 libssl1.0.0:i386 libpulse0:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386
wget -O skype-install.deb [URL]
dpkg -i skype-install.deb
apt-get -f install

Now that I've installed Skype, how do I *UNINSTALL* Skype?

Will the following code completely remove the software added above, or will some "software-residue" be left behind, or will it remove other software that should have been left untouched?

Code: Select allsu
apt-get purge skype libc6:i386 libqt4-dbus:i386 libqt4-network:i386 libqt4-xml:i386 libqtcore4:i386 libqtgui4:i386 libqtwebkit4:i386 libstdc++6:i386 libx11-6:i386 libxext6:i386 libxss1:i386 libxv1:i386 libssl1.0.0:i386 libpulse0:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386
apt-get clean

Fedora :: How To Get Skype Completely Functional

Feb 4, 2011

I have an older Compaq MT D220 with 2.4 GHz Celeron proc and 756 MB RAM, with F14 installed exclusively. I've yet to get Skype completely functional under these conditions. The loopback audio only test usually produces no sound or very broken sound. I tried upgrading my DSL from 3MBps max downstream and 0.5MBsp max upstream, to 6MBps max up and 1Mbps max down - to no avail!

System Monitor shows CPU and memory are below 100% utilization, and Skype's real time call stats show 0 packet loss. Perhaps using a leaner GUI than Gnome? I'm happy to report that as expected, other than this Skype issue and some lingering DVD-ROM and BackupPC issues, this old HW is much more tolerable with F14 than Windows XP!

OpenSUSE Install :: Completely Messed Up System (fstab)?

This is an install of openSUSE-11.2 32bit. Obvoiusly, during the fresh install something went wrong. The HDD has 4 primary partitions, meant for /boot / swap /home (in that order). Instead of /home partition /dev/sda4 is mounted on /usr.

Currently it looks like this:

Code:

This just started happening recently.. I have no problems with 1on1 skype calls but as soon as I try to bring in another party all of my skype audio just sounds like some really really bad video game from the 70's. Just beeps and borks. The other people on the call can hear each other just fine and dandy, but on my end I can't hear anything except for beep boop beep boop.

Ubuntu :: Re-installing Itself On The Hard-drive, Completely Ignoring The SD Card?

Feb 9, 2011

I got a laptop from a friend. For some reason, it loaded the grub off of an SD card (He was running Xubuntu), so I tried re-installing Ubuntu itself on the hard-drive, completely ignoring the SD card. It wont work. The guy who sold the laptop to me took a look at it, and he's alright with Linux, but he can't figure out what's wrong with it. I tried adding my own partition tables, and they look something like this:

sda1 / 20G
sda2 /home 130G
sda3 SWAP 10G

I know it's more swap than I should have, but I plan on upgrading the RAM.Anyways, we're both completely lost. I think we want it to load a grub menu at this point because one isn't loading.

General :: Completely Shut Out Of My System ?

Sep 3, 2009

I have an online server which I can not reach any more !

Code:

normally works just fine but now there is a timeout...

Code:

Status of csf:csf and lfd have been disabled, use 'csf -e' to enable Status of lfd:lfd is stopped. The only thing I have is a management-interface with a command prompt(luckily !) You can see that any firewall is disabled.

Still I can not reach my server. Not through webmin via the public address, not through the VPN on the private address (10.10.0.1). So no webmin. I cannot reach my server via ssh. I cannot ping my server on the public IP-address from my client.

What else besides the firewall can restrict my access to my server ?

Ubuntu :: Installing Skype On 8.04

Apr 16, 2010

Installing Skype on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron

I noticed that many people, as well as me, want to install skype on 8.04. I found many tutorials with lots of dependences and terminal commands. So i found a better solution how to install.

1. Go to Skype's download site: Latest 2.1 version - click here

2. Download Static (5th type, little skype cube), i didn't test any others so maybe some of them work

3. Save .tar.bz2 (26,3 MB)

4. Extract

5. Open the folder and run Skype.exe

6. Done, just type your username and password

I'm using this version, i had no problems with chat and calling. Also options and pop-ups work.

Ubuntu Networking :: Installing Mobile Broadband - Froze Completely - Networkmanager Refused To See The Modem

(previous: tried to get started with an Option Icon 550 modem, but could not do it. Ubuntu froze completely, networkmanager refused to see the modem after this. Read somewhere that it is (next to) impossible with Ubuntu, but Huawei is a better chance. Maybe I changed some settings on the way, went and got a Huawei)

-connected modem, nothing happened

-rebooted to Windows Vista, installed modem

-rebooted to Ubuntu networkmanager sees the modem, when I select it, it gives a message 'GSM network, disconnected'

Also: Ububtu sees the usb stick as a folder

Debian :: Steam Repo Install Completely Wrecks System

Aug 20, 2015

I've been carefully installing and personalizing a Debian 8 "Jessie" 64-bit install on my laptop for the last few days. Played some games, did some downloading and stuff and decided to want to run steam again, as I have done on many Ubuntu installs in the past.

So I followed this guide: [URL] ....

and of course, I read the warnings: Only do this on Jessie or SID, not on Wheezy. So I was in the clear. I thought.

After giving 'aptitude install steam' all hell broke loose. The script starting demolishing/removing almost everything under the KDE shell. Wireless network, apps, even the ability to reboot the system from the GUI were utterly and completely destroyed. After the script ended I had to reboot the system through an alternate CLI shell only to discover X was complete gone.

So I don't think there is anything else I can do now except re-installing the complete system? Bye bye Wesnoth saved games, downloads, etcetera...

Fedora :: Getting Error Message While Installing Skype

I was noticed the below error message when I was installing the SKYPE linux version downloaded from the official web site of SKYPE. Actually I have already installed the QT4 with the highest version correctly even I can used the QT UI for programming now. But still I faced the problem of lack of libraries afterwards.

[root@IT60 LinuxSoftware]# rpm -ivh skype*.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
qt4-x11 >= 4.2 is needed by skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586

Bump: The skype is running fine by the below link. [URL]. This version needn't those QT libraries again? It's strange. In before I was using the version called "skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586.rpm" that also downloaded from SKYPE official website. But it's not working as I mentioned above.

Debian Configuration :: Completely Removing Microsoft Bootloader From UEFI System

Jul 16, 2015

I have a Debian testing system on a laptop that used to have Windows 8 on it. I kept the EFI boatloader and its partition, but now every time the system boots, it first tries to boot into Windows (which isn't there anymore). Removing /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft just leads to an error message when booting, with some component of Windows still trying to load and not finding those files.

The workaround for now is to go into the UEFI boot menu on every boot and selecting the "debian" entry, which works but is a bit cumbersome. How can I get rid of the Microsoft loader completely? I find a lot about repairing or re-adding the Windows bootloader, but nothing about removing it.
