I have a Acer Aspire D250 the new ones that comes with the win 7 starter kit.
When I try to install or just even try to load from the live CD from Ubuntu 9.10 or Ubuntu 9.10 remix the logo come up and screen goes black. I'm using a 4gig Sanddisk cruzer and I formated to fat32.
Is it an option that I need to change into the bios? do you think I really need to use a external DVD to install it?
I tried to find a solution on google but can't find anything

I have had this issue before, and fixed it by booting into Windows XP SP3 and pressing and holding the power button down until the computer shuts down. (e.g. "Unclean or "Illegal" or "Cold" boot.) Unfortunately, not having Windows XP SP3 on my system anymore, I have to do this in Ubuntu. I have tried several times, and it is clearly not working. I don't want to try too many times more for fear of damaging my ext4 file system.
I looked for this issue on Google and found only driver problems, not device problems. There is no Ethernet option in the BIOS, except for the Network Boot, which should always show the device whether its in use or not. Is it silly to ask if Windows in a VM in an unclean shutdown may solve the problem? The driver for the device is currently supported by the kernel out of the box:
Code:
Linux brokenbox 2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 16:20:31 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
It uses/used the atl1c driver. It was working on the same install just about a day ago!

I'm using netbook Acer Aspire One D250-0Bb pre-installed Windows XP. Now i have Gentoo. I have trouble with Xfce (lastest stable version) , where my keyboard don't react. I can move just with touchpad. I think, it's in X-server driver, but i can't find any information about that.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Fedora 12 x86 in an Acer Aspire One D250. Everything ran smoothly and was detected upon install but unfortunately after all updates were applied to it I ended with a device with no network connection (not even Ethernet).
This appears to be kernel-related because the old kernel (stock) works as expected. The problematic kernel version is (2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686).
Is there any known workaround for this? Or am I condemned to run this older kernel until the other one gets fixed?
Another question, in the event a new kernel comes out I'd like to keep to older one as a back up, how can I arrange that?
Just installed 9.10 netbook remix on my acer aspire one - No Wireless !
search showed all kinds of comments but few solutions most just claimed it worked or others tried madwifi without success.
I'm thinking of buying an Acer Aspire D250 loaded with Win7 and then adding a version of Ubuntu.
The netbook will come with the Acer recovery facility to reinstall Win7 from a recovery partition in the event of OS failure. This means that the MBR and subsequent loaders need to be preserved for this function to remain (I don't have a Win7 disc and don't want to have to buy one).
I'm happy with a basic Win/Linux dual boot setup but I'd value any comments/suggestions as to how to preserve the recovery function when I add Ubuntu.
I have a new Acer Aspire One, model D250-1958. It uses the Atheros AR928X. I've tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 and Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04, as well as the conventional Ubuntu. Everything works beautifully, except no wireless. The netbook picks up the signal, but when I provide the Key it fails to connect, and eventually prompts me for the key again.
I've tried to research this on my own, but haven't found a solution. In particular, the solution reported by narnie for his Acer Aspire One D250-1584, <HERE>, didn't work for me.
I'd really like to get this working. The netbook will be much less useful if it can't make use of our wireless router.
So I did zypper dup yesterday, because I have been a having a ton of freezing issues with this 11.3, and now after a restart I get the green lizard loading screen and then, when it seems like it's about to load KDE all I get is a black screen with a cursor.
It will boot up in failsafe mode just fine. I just rolled back to an older kernel but still same issue, what should I do now?
This laptop has a Intel 945 graphics card
I recently installed openSuSE 11.2 on an Acer Aspire One, but when the installer try to start the new kernel with kexec it hang up, and if I reboot the system it hang up always, also says that the Acer BIOS is unknown.

I don't know why is this, but the gecko appear, the white bar appear, and moves 1cm, and then, puff no more blinking from the hard drive. Then i force te reboot, over and over until works. The message is: acerhdf: no Aspire One hardware foundWhen i first installed the mini with openSUSE it works perfect for a week, and then start this problem.I have tried with different kernel flavors (like desktop) and still nothing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHad the RC versions of 11.2 running on my laptop but now the release version is out X no longer installs properly, it gets so far through the installation but then goes to a black screen which is totally unresponsive. If I force a power-off/on it only comes up in text mode and I cannot get X to start automatically. I can get startx to work if I manually reconfigure sax2 using 0=radeon but no way can I get this to happen at startup. Seems a very retrograde situation and something that completely got past quality control.
Probably the end of my time with OpenSuse having been a user for over 5 years, at least Ubuntu installs straight in with no problems whatsoever - exactly what I would have expected from OpenSuse.
I have Windows 7 and openSuse on my Acer Aspira 5532. I find that after using it, I'd rather get rid of Windows 7 all together. However, I want to be careful not to remove the partition that has the Windows 7 Reinstallation boot disk just incase in the future I wish to go back to Windows. Is there a way I can make my entire computer Linux (no dual boot) but also not deleting the Windows 7 reinstallation partition?
Further, can someone example why, on Boot, I have like 5 options to choose from? Like two openSUSE versions, failsafe, Windows 1, and Windows 2....? To be honest, when I installed openSUSE, I just did the recommended partition job that it suggested. I don't know much about partitions.
I'm absolotly not sure, if I'm right here. During start I see the message "unknown (unsupported) BIOS version Acer/Aspire 6920/V1.14 , please report, aborting!"but I did not found any Mail or URI, where I can report this one. So I paste the partof the boot.msg here. Hopefully it will be on the right place. If not :

I am trying to install Fedora 12 on an Acer Aspire AMD 64 2 with 1 GB of memory.
I downloaded the Fedora 12 live CD Fedora-12-X86_64-ISO.
When I try to boot from that CD, I get a message "irq 17 too bust" and the system hangs before finishing the boot process. So I have very little to go on.
Ps. I previously installed Kubuntu 9.1 without any problems.
I installed the xbmc live linux distro on a revo aspire. It's basically a stripped down version of 9.10. It installed fine the first time, but somehow the OS got corrupted (i'm not entirely sure how) and it didn't have the ability to sleep or shut down without being manually powered off. Now when i use a bootable usb drive that i tested on another laptop, it sees the usb drive but when i select it the computer just boots to the hd instead. Is there a way to force boot off a drive? or has anyone seen something similar to this?
side note: when i try to shut down, the computer drops to cli with the user xbmc-gbr and i can shutdown the computer from there (shutdown -h now).
I wanna disable the vertical scroll of the track on my aspire one,... Before I did this with Sax2, but now, there is no sax, so??
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been attempting to install Ubuntu 10.10 on my Acer Aspire One for a few days now. Its current OS is Win7 Starter, if that even matters.
-I made a USB drive and Ubuntu boots and runs just fine.
-I hit the "install Ubuntu" icon and it has me choose my language, then I hit forward.
-It asks if I want to install updates and/or third party apps, I check the boxes and hit forward - and then it just sits there with the cursor spinning like its trying to do something, but it never does. The longest I have let it sit there was four hours, and still nothing happened.
**This is the step it always stops on. Could the problem be that I am trying to install the desktop version instead of the netbook version? I tried the netbook version and I just don't like it as much.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter loading Ubuntu 10.10 on an Acer Aspire 5100, I find that the onboard LAN does not work. My router "sees" the laptop but my laptop does not "see" the router. Ubuntu says that the firmware is not installed.
I read earlier posts about an issue with Broadcom and later editions of Ubuntu but I haven't seen a definitive fix. With the LAN not working, it is not possible to connect to the Internet and further compounds the problem. My understanding is that the Acer Aspire 5100 uses a Broadcom LAN. How can I install the firmware that it is asking for?
