Ubuntu Networking :: Acer Aspire One D250-1958 W/ AR928X - No Wireless - Netbook Picks Signal - When Provide Key It Fails To Connect
May 13, 2010I have a new Acer Aspire One, model D250-1958. It uses the Atheros AR928X. I've tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 and Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04, as well as the conventional Ubuntu. Everything works beautifully, except no wireless. The netbook picks up the signal, but when I provide the Key it fails to connect, and eventually prompts me for the key again.
I've tried to research this on my own, but haven't found a solution. In particular, the solution reported by narnie for his Acer Aspire One D250-1584, <HERE>, didn't work for me.
I'd really like to get this working. The netbook will be much less useful if it can't make use of our wireless router.

Ubuntu Installation :: Dual Boot Acer Aspire D250 - Recovery Partition
Nov 13, 2010I'm thinking of buying an Acer Aspire D250 loaded with Win7 and then adding a version of Ubuntu.
The netbook will come with the Acer recovery facility to reinstall Win7 from a recovery partition in the event of OS failure. This means that the MBR and subsequent loaders need to be preserved for this function to remain (I don't have a Win7 disc and don't want to have to buy one).
I'm happy with a basic Win/Linux dual boot setup but I'd value any comments/suggestions as to how to preserve the recovery function when I add Ubuntu.
Fedora Hardware :: No Network In Acer Aspire One D250 After Kernel Update / Get That?
Mar 28, 2010I just installed Fedora 12 x86 in an Acer Aspire One D250. Everything ran smoothly and was detected upon install but unfortunately after all updates were applied to it I ended with a device with no network connection (not even Ethernet).
This appears to be kernel-related because the old kernel (stock) works as expected. The problematic kernel version is (2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686).
Is there any known workaround for this? Or am I condemned to run this older kernel until the other one gets fixed?
Another question, in the event a new kernel comes out I'd like to keep to older one as a back up, how can I arrange that?

I have had this issue before, and fixed it by booting into Windows XP SP3 and pressing and holding the power button down until the computer shuts down. (e.g. "Unclean or "Illegal" or "Cold" boot.) Unfortunately, not having Windows XP SP3 on my system anymore, I have to do this in Ubuntu. I have tried several times, and it is clearly not working. I don't want to try too many times more for fear of damaging my ext4 file system.
I looked for this issue on Google and found only driver problems, not device problems. There is no Ethernet option in the BIOS, except for the Network Boot, which should always show the device whether its in use or not. Is it silly to ask if Windows in a VM in an unclean shutdown may solve the problem? The driver for the device is currently supported by the kernel out of the box:

Jan 18, 2011I am having trouble installing Ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix edition onto a Acer Aspire one netbook. I am attempting to install the OS from a 16GB PNY usb drive w/ the usb-universal installer and ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix .ISO
The reoccurring problem that I am encountering is that when I boot from the USB-drive and begin to install everything seems to be working, and then it is stuck at the menu where it asks who are you?; and of course i have filled in everything asked and at the bottom where you can look at what its doing in the terminal/detail section all it says is ready when you are, and the forward tap is unselectable.

Jun 7, 2011While installing the openSuSE on my Netbook (Acer AspireOne D250) with a bootable thumbdrive Live image, the installation seemed to go fine, but after the installation was completed, there was no "network"! I checked and the system auto-sensed the drivers, but when I go into the network, even trying to manually set up the IP info, Yast reports NO NETWORK running!!
I then went out and bought a USB CD-ROM drive and installed using the boot CD (Network install) on the external USB CD-ROM drive. It booted up fine, and installed "RIGHT OFF OF THE NETWORK", but when the install was through, I could not access the network. Same error: NO NETWORK RUNNING!! Now I've installed openSuSE on this unit before (v11.4) and it worked fine (after I changed the wireless driver to the legacy driver) but this time it's NOT working!! My 13yr old son uses the Netbook, and was so excited to get to use LINUX instead of Windows ... until now.

Sep 13, 2010after messing with fstab + mtab, my aspire one netbook completely failed , so i rebooted using a live USB. My desktop and default settings were restored. When i tried to install firefox 3 (default browser is firefox 2 ), yum hangs and refuses to do anything. I tried deleting and reinstalling yum, and it was mostly successful until i tried the "make" command which according to bash does not exist. how to install make without using yum?

Jan 26, 2011I've just worked out how to get the wireless card working with an Acer Aspire D260 wireless card to work.
Enter terminal command;
sudo apt-get install wifi-radar
Then reboot ubuntu 10.04 after it has installed, network manager should now detect wireless networks in range and allow connection, right click network manager icon and select "Enable Wireless" or "Disable wireless" as required to turn on or off. So many others have had problems getting the wifi to work with Acer Aspire D260 netbooks and ubuntu 10.04.

May 13, 2011I currently have an Acer Aspire One netbook 120GB drive which came with Linpus lite preloaded. I have set-up dual boot a year or so ago. It now dual boots to either Linpus or Vista (yes I know!) via the Linpus grub.conf ( I got the instructions I think from here: [URL] I want to get the latest Ubuntu 11.04 build on this as a third boot option. If this work OK I may ditch the Linpus or Vista build at some point. So I've used Gparted on a USB drive to setup up three extended Logical Partitions (sda5, 6 and 7).
I then loaded Ubuntu s/w via an external drive with
/boot on 100MB /sda5
Swap on 1GB /sda6
/ on the 40GB+ /sda7
When I was asked for the bootloader location in the Ubuntu install gui I chose /sda5 (out of complete ignorance) All fine at this point. What do I have to get the linpus lite /boot/grub/grub.conf to see and start ubuntu?? Or is there something else I need to do?? Also, how does Ubuntu know which swap partition to use, as there is already one for the linpus lite install.

Jul 30, 2010I just tried to install ubuntu 10.04 to the hard drive of my netbook as i prefer it greatly over the standard linpus one. The operating system booted fine from a bootable usb drive and so i thought if i install it it should run.
so...i got to work installing the system...it completed and asked me to restart, which i did. From there the boot up screen comes on for the pc.....the one where it says press f2 for setup and f12 for boot priority....then goes to a black screen. on this black screen i have a message which says...

Dec 2, 2010I have been using my Acer Aspire One Netbook, with Linux Lite v1.0.13.E as loaded on purchase, happily for a year or so. Yesterday, when I clicked on the Browser picture to open up Firefox, nothing happened. I can't find how to access anything which will let me check if the icon has lost a link. I have looked on the File Manager and can see the .mozilla folder but don't know what to look for, nor what to do from here.
I have now managed to add the sub-menu which was linked to here: [URL] as a way to Install apps. I can now use this directory to try and open Firefox Web Browser - I then get the message "Failed to execute default web browser Input/output error.

When I try to install or just even try to load from the live CD from Ubuntu 9.10 or Ubuntu 9.10 remix the logo come up and screen goes black. I'm using a 4gig Sanddisk cruzer and I formated to fat32.
Is it an option that I need to change into the bios? do you think I really need to use a external DVD to install it?

Im running ubtuntu netbook remix 10.04 and am new to linux (again, so sorry) so be nice, and ive tried getting my head around this 'sudo' stuff, and the xorg.conf file (which is nowhere to be found) and ive even tried a program calld astray but im pretty sure ive exhausted my patience as trying to self-teach . . .
And ive also tried to much around with xrandr or whatever that command was.. but i cant really get my head around it, and it kept telling me the resolution didnt exist ect...

After restarting the system now I can't even seem to get the KDM. I am greeted with a black screen.--- I restarted the system again and the nasty little bugger is back again! This is so frustrating. How do I get plasma-desktop to load instead?---- Great now I can see that plasma-desktop and plasma-netbook both are running simultaneously! netbook on top of desktop. So my final Q is how do I stop plasma-netbook from loading?
