General :: How To View Internet Download Size Of Each System In LAN
Jun 14, 2010
Our LAN is connected to internet via leased line, and it is getting slow at peak times. We doubt someone might be downloading files of huge size.Instead of SSH-ing into each system and finding out the download size (ethstatus), is it possible to view from a network bandwidth monitoring software?

What I'm trying to do is wget images, however, I'm not sure how to do it 100% right. What I've got is a index.html page that has images (thumbs) that link to the full size images. How do I grab the full size images?
Example of links on the page:
<a href="images/*random numbers*.jpg" target="_blank"><img border=0 width=112 height=150 src="images/tn_*random numbers*.jpg" style="position:relative;left:3px;top:3px" /></a>
I tried:
wget -A.jpg -r -l1 -np URLHERE
but only got the thumbs.

Just wondering if it's possible to change the size of icons when Nautilus is in List View. I tried playing around with gtk-icon-sizes in the gtkrc file of my theme, but there doesn't seem to be a setting for it there. I could just zoom in/out, but when I have the icons the size I want them to be, the text is too small (see attachment).

I use vncviewer command line to remote access my pc from my notebook.
Is there any option to resize the view like windows client can by percentage?
my notebook screen size is 1280x800, while I use bigger resolution for my pc 1280x1024 if not mistaken.
already look here: http://linux.die.net/man/1/vncviewer but I don't see any option to do that.

What I mean is I'd like to watch stuff in its original size but with the rest of the screen black, the way it is in full screen view (but I don't want it zoomed). RealPlayer calls this option "theatre view". Is there a line I can put into terminal? I tried
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf
and changing commenting in zoom=yes and changing it to zoom=no. Made no difference.

I am running Fedora 9 in virtual box on laptop. Want to set Fedora display size so that I will not have to scroll up or down or sideways to view screen contents. Have tried a couple of options such a resize box and change from full size but these do not help reduce size of Fedora display. Am wondering if it as something to do with the rectangular size of laptop monitor???

I have an NFS server running an older version of AIX that exports two disk partitions. Let's say /1 and /2I also have an NFS client running Fedora 9.I am able to NFS mount /1 and /2 from NFS server under /mnt/1 and /mnt/2 on the client. If I do a df command on the aix server,I see that /1 is 2Gb total and 1.7Gb is usedand /2 is 2Gb total and 1.4Gb is usedI see the same if I do a df command on the NFS client (Linux)Now, the confusing part is here: in the GUI of Fedora, if I go under /mnt and right click on /1 and check folder properties, it tells me that there is ~ 54 000 files (which i assume is the correct number) for a total of 5.3Gb! And for /2, properties indicate 1.2Gb. Where do these extra 3.6 Gb come from on /1...? and even the smaller difference for /2 confuses me (but this might be just the way different systems round off large numbers)?

I'm in an Aussie rules fantasy football competition and someone posted a zip file with relevant stats for players in the under 18 comp, as a guide for selecting possible players in next years team. Never used any of the office applications. I've attached the zip file and this is what the poster said...
In the actual spreadsheet though, there are two sheets. The first is all the raw data which you can order by position (based on me watching the games, and the line-ups listed on the AFL websites), K: H ratio, state etc. The second is a sheet which you can use to compare players.
I find that sometimes it is easier for me to make decisions about which players to pick when the stats are more obvious, so if you are the same, you can use this sheet as well. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the spreadsheet and I'll update it after each round. Fixed, I had to change the file from .zip to .xlsx

I have an acer aspire one notebook (I gather firefox 2 is interwoven on the system?). Anyway, keep pressing firefox icon and it churns over put nothing happens. I found the following advice on another site: (Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to give you as much info for you to help me)
Press Alt+F2 to show the Run program window. Check Run in terminal, leave the input field blank, and click Run to open a terminal. If you're not familiar with the Linux command line just follow the instructions step by step. The easiest way is to simply paste the commands into the terminal with Ctrl+Shift+V. Most of them will only give feedback if an error occurs.
The first command uses wget to download Firefox 3.6 from an official mirror. You can edit the lang variable at the end, in this case en-US, if you'd like another language. All available languages are listed here, just hover over the download link to get the language code from the status bar.
wget -N [url]
The next step extracts the just downloaded file and modifies a link to point to it. In a few cases a connection refused error message may be triggered by sudo, which is not an error but a bug in sudo and can be safely ignored.
The next step links all plug-ins (not to be confused with extensions) to it.
Launch the profile manager using the command below. Create a new profile, name it anything you like and select it. If you want to keep your bookmarks export them via the bookmark manager first. You can then delete the old default profile.
firefox -profilemanager -no-remote
As a bonus you can also change the icon to the official Firefox icon.
Finally reboot the AA1 to make the desktop aware of the new icon and browser location.
However when I try the above I get the following responses at each point:
I do now have a new icon on the desktop! but still no internet.
