Ubuntu :: When Click On "Places" Menu Brasero Keeps Launching - Can't View Files

Mar 8, 2011

Yesterday I burnt a couple of CD's with Brasero. Project completed successfully. But.. now if I try and open Nautilus and go to any of my folders under Places>Home/Music/Documents, in fact anywhere, it goes straight into Brasero and seems to think I have an uncompleted project. There is also a box open which promts me to rename/not rename for full Windows or Linux comaptabilty. As of right now I cant get rid of Brasero and get to any folders/files.

Fedora :: Unable To View Folders (using Places Menu Item)?

Nov 16, 2010

I'm unable to open and view folders graphically. I click Places -> Home Folder (or any of the other folders, including Computer), and the cursor turns to the spinning "wait" dial, but the folder won't appear. A tab appears in the bottom panel, with the title "opening ZenBeam" (or "opening Desktop" or "Starting Computer", depending on which folder I tried to open) for a few seconds, but then goes away. Left- or Right-clicking on these tabs doesn't give me any options.

This used to work normally, but stopped suddenly a few days ago, following a reboot. I'm guessing it's become corrupted, but I don't know what "it" is. I can navigate in a command line window normally.I have rebooted, and I have run System -> Administration -> Software Update, but that didn't fix the problem.I was going to add the information in System -> About This Computer, but that seems to be having the same problem. What can I do to fix this? What application is failing to run?

OpenSUSE :: 11.3 Search And Launch View - No Right-click Menu

Apr 4, 2011

I changed the kde desktop layout to Search and Launch on an 11.3 64-bit machine and lost the ability to bring up a right-click menu on the desktop, also tried it on an 11.3 32 bit machine and experienced the exact same thing how I can solve this even if it means reverting to the default layout? I suppose I could delete and re-create the user's /home but I'm wondering if there's a way to solve this without resorting to that On the one machine I've put 11.4 on so far it's using the search and launch layout with absolutely no problems at all and finding it very handy

the 11.4 machine I'm using this layout on actually logs onto the 11.3 64 bit machine I first had the problem with via nis and an nfs /home export For the user it's working fine under I set the search and launch layout from the 11.4 machine, the user I'm getting the problem with on the 64-bit machine (nis/nfs server) was set on the server itself. The 11.3 32 bit machine however, I disabled nis and nfs so that it would use local logons and /home only so it seems to be an issue with 11.3 itself and regardless of cpu architecture

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Brasero Stopped Launching - No Error Messages

Mar 25, 2011

I've been burning a few linux ISOs lately to play around on a desktop I have (archlinux, Fedora, etc) and a few days ago Brasero stopped launching. I tried to uninstall/reinstall Brasero, but it still didn't work. There we no error messages, it would just try to start up, and quit.

I got frustrated and tried to run Brasero from the command line and got this:
Code:
user@computer:~$ brasero
Bus Error
user@computer:~$

Ubuntu :: 10.10's Brasero Has Taken Over TopMenu's Places Button

Feb 26, 2011

For a few days now every time I click on Places in the TopMenu, a Brasero screen opens up instead with the heading Brasero - New Data Disc Project and has a small popup screen over it asking whether files should be fully windows compatible. The defaulted image file shown at the bottom of the Brasero screen for burning is /home/thane/brasero.iso , which failed and needed to be aborted a few days ago. Things I've tried so far: -Completely remove brasero (about 4 times so far) and restart computer. -Scour the computer for any files I could find with brasero in the filename. -Attempt to remove the brasero.iso from the brasero screen -- it won't let me - I've tried but I don't see any log files for brasero, although I've no idea, what they would be called. Nothing obvious to me in /var/logs. -I can successfully use brasero to copy another disc, but as soon as I click on Places afterwards, up comes brasero again instead. -If I remove brasero (using synaptic), I can then access my directories fine, after clicking on Places in the TopMenu. But as soon as I reinstall brasero, the default disc burning software, which came with 10.10, I'm right back with problems.

Ubuntu :: Places Bookmarks Are Opened By Brasero By Default?

May 1, 2011

I opened a folder with brasero a while ago, to make a DVD. For some reason this stuck. When I click on any of the bookmarks in places, Brasero pops up. It also happens if I click "open containing folder" in Ktorrent, so it must be a global setting, but I couldn't figure out where to change this back to Nautilus

Ubuntu :: Launching Program From Main Menu Fails?

Oct 8, 2010

I'm running GuitarPro6 on my EeePC, and it will only start correctly if I start it from a terminal, in the install directory (/opt/GuitarPro6)

If I attempt to start it from somewhere else, like ~/, I get a library error. GP appears to want to look for this library in the working directory, and will only find it and start if I CD to /opt/GuitarPro6 first.

For this reason, I believe, when I click on the shortcut I made in Main Menu, nothing happens.

Is there any way to define the working directory for a shortcut in Main Menu?

Ubuntu :: Get The Places Menu Back?

Places is one really neat feature that my distro had the Windows doesn't; it makes/made life easier for me--I hate to see it just go away. Does anyone know how to bring it back? It doesn't seem to be available under Add New Items (to the panel).

Ubuntu :: Can't Open Folders From Places Menu?

Jun 14, 2010

Something very strange has happened to my system (Lucid / Gnome / 64 bit): when I try to open a location from Gnome Menu, message pops up saying: "Can't open location [file:///...]. No program is registered to open this type of file." Or something in this vein, I'm translating the message from Polish. So I can't open locations via the main menu, but the bookmarks work fine in an open Nautilus window. It looks like the system doesn't know it should open a location with Nautilus... I looked through file associations in Ubuntu Tweak, but couldn't find anything corresponding to "file:///..." or anything resembling opening a location (I'm not exactly a Linux guru). Also, the folder shortcuts in Cairo-Dock don't work, the same goes for the FolderView screenlets. However, in the MainMenu screenlet, the location shortcuts do work. There has to be some obvious explanation of this anomaly, but I lack a deeper knowledge of the system to work it out. I can't say at which point it started exactly, I think it was around the time I started dragging extra shortcuts to the Cairo-Dock shortcuts applet, but that may be a coincidence.
