Anyone else seeing Dolphin's Context Menu on a file, Actions -> Preview This File not working for them?
Does anyone know how to fix it to work?
I am using openSUSE KDE 4.
my context menu in dolphin/konquerer is very slow -- 2-3 seconds to pop up.I have a dual core 1.4ghz pc, so pc speed is not an issue.My cpu pins during the delay that the context menu takes to pop up. I ran valgrind --tool=callgrind dolphin and attached the two files that it produced.I viewed them in kcachegrind but i dont know what to make of the data.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just noticed my Dolphin compress service menu doesn't compress anything except for '*.zip'. It used to compress '*.tar.gz' and '*tar.bz2' but now none of these work, and the bz2 option is gone altogether.Does anyone know what might have happened?I have openSUSE 11.3 & KDE 4.6, but this happened before I upgraded to KDE4.6 just a few days ago, so it's not KDE4.6 related, maybe 4.5? maybe Dolphin?I also tried to install the extract/compress plugin but it says "Could not find program 'compress_TARBZ2.sh'" which all are in my /bin folder. I also checked I have all the extract/compress file installed: zip, tar, gzip, bzip and so on.I also tried 'Compress to...' which open Ark, then I selected either 'gz' or 'bz' and still nothing happened.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI cannot use preview function in Dolphin to preview JPG files that the size is bigger than 3MB. It is no problem when the photos' size are smaller than 3MB. Do any one got the same problem?
View 4 Replies View RelatedDolphin crashes when previewing PNG files - with other image files (PS, PDF, JPG, DVI) when you roll the mouse over the file you get a preview pic in the top right corner - when I roll it over a PNG file, it halts for a second then crashes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to 11.3 I don't see that the View > Preview mode is broken. Image icons are created, but they all look like the icons in the picture below. When I move the zoom slider the largest sized icons come out fine. Anyone an idea how to solve this problem? Is there any repository that I can use to get more recent versions that should have fixed these bugs? I just noticed that PNG images come out right, so it could be something related to JPG files.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter I manually installed multimedia codecs, like w32codecall, I got Linux to play movies and I also got thumbnail previews of them in Dolphin. However, I noticed that recently Dolphin doesn't display my thumbnails anymore. I don't quite recall whether the any video player could use my installed codecs, at least xine works. The only thing that could have caused that is actually the automatic system updates I received. I still have my multimedia codecs installed, but Dolphin doesn't show the movie previews anymore.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIn Windows Explorer, if a file is focused, press Menu Key on keyboard, context menu will show on top of the file. But in Nautilus, the same action shows context menu where the mouse cursor is. That's a bit annoying. Is there anyway to make it work like Windows?

View 6 Replies View RelatedHi everybody! I am completely stumped with KDE's Dolphin's preview policy. It started with me realizing that when as much as I mouse over an encrypted file (say, an ODS file created and encrypted with OpenOffice), KDE pops up a password prompt. The culprit identifies itself as kio_thumbnail. This is a feature so apparently useless, I would like to disable it no matter what. I know a work-around: hiding the Information panel seems to work. But I like the information panel. On top of that, the same kio_thumbnail does on occasion decide that my computer is underutilized (it feels like it happens during the idle times). It allocates my entire RAM, all 4 GiB of it, and does something fancy. It doesn't crash, however, and goes away a few minutes after I poke the computer.
I don't want a daemonized thumbnailer, is there a way to disable kio_thumbnail or make it be quiet and do nothing? I tried fooling around with Dolphin. I went into Settings / Configure Dolphin... and
1. Disabled all services,
2. Unchecked everything in General / Previews.
I did the same to Konqueror.
As far as I can tell, this had no effect whatsoever. Dolphin still previews all the files it previewed before, and still tries to preview encrypted files when Information panel is open. I am running unmodified Dolphin 1.4 on KDE 4.4.3, the same ones that came with Slackware 13.1 x64.
I switched from 11.2 to 11.4 yesterday. I noticed that the Appearance dialog has only three tabs instead of four tabs. The last tab "Interfaces" does not exist, in where I can select "Show Icon in Context Menu". But I do not know, how to show icons in context menu.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSuddenly the application launcher (the one that pops out when pressing the green chameleon button) has changed and I no longer get the formerly so pretty application launcher. Instead I now get a simple context menu style drop down menu.
I first noticed this after I updated PackageKit. is there a way to get this back to the previous applicationn launcher. When adding just the applet (without the button) it still looks the same, just the button doesn't pop it out anymore, as it chose to pop out a grey drop down instead.
This is on OpenSuse 11.4 KDE 4.5 and the latest desktop kernel
I can start "Search for files" from menu
Applications->Accessories->Search for files....
and it works fine.
However I would like to put it into the context menu of the Nautilus File Browser.
When I select it e.g. for folder /home/peter
then the start base directory should be obviously set AUTOMATICALLY to /home/peter
Up until an hour ago, my openSUSE 11.0 KDE 3.x Konqueror had the usual Ark archive extraction options on the context menu. An hour ago, during an extraction operation, Ark and/or KWin crashed and I had to log back in.
Now the Ark extraction options are no longer on the menu. All I have is the Ark "Extract To..." option.
What happened and how can I fix it? And yes, I have all the required integration plugins, etc., the thing was working fine for the last two years. Now it's broken. Where is the config file or lock file or whatever that I need to find to fix this.
When I copy files from one partition to another, or from one drive to another, the transfer rates hover around 5-8MB/sec which is kind of slow given that all my hard drives are SATA II. I have the same problem when copying either a single file or a group of files.
I'm running openSUSE 11.2 x64 here (KDE 4.3.5) with three SATA II hard drives that are all formatted with ext3. I have dropped to the CLI and used mv and cp instead - this seems to improve things but I shouldn't have to do this.
Sometimes the Dolphin file manager displays a "waiting bar" with a blue dot moving left and right all the time.There is a message next to it, stating that the file folder is being loaded. But I do not know that there is anything happening, nor is there any need to load anything. There is also a little red "delete" button, but klicking on it achieves nothing.

I went to Dolphin -> Settings -> Configure Dolphin -> Services -> Download New Services and from there I installed KDE CDEmu Emulator and MountISO. But neither of them is showing up in actual context menu. Neither in Dolphin -> Settings -> Configure Dolphin -> Services for that matter. I tried to install them as normal user and as a root. I went to have a peak in /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/ but they aren't there as well... It's just me or lots of things seems to be not quite working in 11.3?

I'm running oS 11.3 KDE 4.6.3. If I try to delete a read-only file in the terminal I can, but get a warning message I have to confirm:

In Dolphin the file is simply sent to trash, no warning. I couldn't find a setting in Dolphin configuration options to change this. I do have "Ask for confirmation. when moving files and folders to trash" unchecked, but even so, if the file is read-only?
When I create a new file/folder in a ext4 data partition, it has permissions:
owner: rwx
group: r
other: r
I would like to change this default to:
owner: rwx
group: rw
other: -
I tried changing fstab, but umask and guid are not supported mount options for ext4. What can I do?
Note: I know I can do a chmod, but I don't want to do this again and again for every new file I create.

However, all of the popular things of course have to work easily, otherwise there's no convincing them..Almost everything has been arranged, except for an easy way to bulk-print pictures onto A4. I have probably missed it but google doesn't help, this forum doesn't give me too much that I can find.
I did find gpp (Gnome Photo Print) but that is still too complicated. I need to be able to either get it directly from the nautilus context menu, or set the gui so that this app is automatically used when viewing images in a memory card. And then it has to be easy to print.
Looking for a rename utility that I can start from the context menu. Would like to be able to highlight a bunch of dig-cam pix on my desktop, right click to the context menu and open a bunch rename utility.

I right click on windows and one of the options in the menu is "new" and then I have many options such as Word 2007 file etc. I create a lot of files and so this method is more convenient by far for me than opening the application, saving and then navigating to where I want the file to go. Because when I want to create the file, I will probably be in the directory in which I want to create the file, the process takes only a few gestures to complete which is not the case if I have to go through the file system in the "save as" window. Is it possible to have this functionality in Ubuntu?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 and noticed that right click stopped working on some applications.
Usually, there are two ways to select items on the right click context menu:
a) press and release right click, hover over option, press and release again
b) press and hold right click, hover over option, release right click
I lost option a). No matter how fast I press and release the right click button, it will select the first option on the menu as soon as I release it. So for example, the first option on the context menu on the chrome browser is "back". So if I try to open the context menu it will just go back. Because it selects the back option as soon as I release the right mouse button.
So far I only noticed this on Chrome and Eclipse. Firefox and the other default ubuntu apps are working properly.
Googling it, I found some other people with this issue, but no solution. Any idea what this could be about and how to fix it?
