I am using Debian for MySQL Replication for HighAvailability.I want to set the virtual ip for my two debian machine so that Heartbeat can switch from one machine to another.
I did that by using the command
ifconfig eth0:1 192.168.0.2 up
but it didnt persist after the reboot.and also I can not give the same ip in both the machine. How can I assign same virtual IP for both the machine?
I want to setup some virtual machines that will use the same architecture and debian-version as my host-machine. I have started to setup VMs with a netinstall-image and now want to add more software using apt-get. As most of the software I will use is already installed on my host-machine I wonder if there is any way to configure apt in such a way that it will not download packages from the internet, but will use the packages from my host-machine to save network-traffic. Is there a good may to populate VMs using the debs from the host-machine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI now have 2 desktops running debian. I have virtual servers running in desktop 1, and I am hosting my photos using Gallery2. I have copied Gallery2 and the mysql over to desktop 2. I have entered port forward to desktop 1 using port 80 (using my router), and desktop 2 using port 1000. I can only access Gallery2 in desktop1. If I tried to access Gallery2 in desktop 2, I got re-directed to desktop1.
Questions:
1. Are home routers capable of port forward to more than one computers in a home network behind the firewall of the router? It is Belkin N+ router.
2. Can multiple virtual servers be setup in 2 desktops?
i am new to linux,its been a month since i have started using it, neways my question is on how i could run virtual box(xp sp2) under my fedora12? i am using a desktop computer with 1 gb memory!

I have 2 virtual hosts (example1.com, example2.com). example1.com works but example2.com is sent to the index file of example1.com. I did some searching on google and it seems the problem might be with my /etc/hosts file.

I've never even set up a virtual desktop on Windows so I'm not sure where to start. I noticed that there's a menu in Ubuntu to set this up, but I followed the instructions (can't remember what they were off hand) and it said that the computer was only accessible through a LAN. I want to leave the Ubuntu machine (my laptop) at home and be able to access it through my desktop (Win7) in college (long story but I don't think that matters). It's possible to do this, right? How would it be done? I understand that LogMeIn doesn't work with Linux, so I'm guessing I have to use Ubuntu's default virtual desktop program and a Windows program like TightVNC, but I'm not sure how to make the laptop accessible from something other than a local network.

I want to acomplish.

I tried with godaddys forward with masking option. It works but I can't hide xx.xx.xx.xx/a in the links. Whats the best approach? One limitation is I cannot use the webhosts name servers. How do I set this up with name based virtual hosting? Do I setup a DNS server in the box?

If I set up br0, then I cannot get out of the machine. Even a ping to 192.168.1.1 (my gateway) comes back as network unreachable. If I comment out #auto br0, then I can get out (on eth0), but i get an error from libvirt. My /etc/network/interfaces file (eth0 networking works, but libvirt does not):

I was trying to setup SSL Client authentication on only one virtual host. Here is a brief excerpt sample of my conf file for the virtual host:

But when I try to check for syntax errors tells me SSLRequire not allowed here I do not want to add SSLRequire on the main httpd.conf because I only want it for one virtual host. The rest of the virtual hosts do not need it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup and configure a server entirely with text only run mode 3 on a virtual machine so I can redo my current live server. I'm now trying to set up the firewall of the system using iptables. I've read up on it and came up with the following:
-clear all rules
#iptables -F
-set default policy rules
#iptables --policy INPUT DROP
#iptables --policy FORWARD DROP

Everything above worked for me but just out of interest I looked at my live server which was configured using a GUI. I ran iptables-save and it was pretty much the same but its port open lines read like this:
#iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW --dport 80 -j ACCEPT
so finally my question is do I really need the "-m state --state NEW"? Wouldn't having that drop established connections on those ports? I'm just confused as to what exactly the NEW state is doing and would it make a difference if I didn't include it.

If it is ftpsync, please provide me some best ways of doing it. I tried ftpsync mirroring but that was not getting properly working due to insufficient I want this mirror to be accessible in my FAI setup so that I can start the installation on multiple machines and start the updates and package installation to be done from the same local mirror.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up my Debain machine to host my homepage, and I have installed Apache 2.2, and a browser-based GUI for it called Webmin. I have a domain name with co.cc, it is www.patmore.co.cc. On the domain name site, there are two fields for name servers. Presently, they are set to the name servers for my hosting company. Apache is working on my machine. When I type my host name in my browser, it goes to index.html in the document root, as it should. When I key in my Debain machine's IP address on another machine on the same network, it also goes to index.html.
Attached, there is a screenshot of the Virtual Server Details in the Webmin GUI. I think I have the server name set right, but what do I type in the Address field? What do I need to type in for my name servers on the domain name site?

I've decided to try and setup a simple home server with Debian. I can either install the OS on a compact flash card and use hard disks as storage, or just install everything on the hard disk. I'd also like to set up a software raid for mirroring. I've never done this before, and most recently updated documentation i've found is for ubuntu. Any advice or good links someone can point me to on how to set up raid? I'd like to encrypt my hard disks but I don't know what my options are. It seems like people point to truecrypt, but i'm wondering what else is out there or if people have any advice on this.
