View 1 RepliesI'm using F14 with the above video card. I've tried installing proprietary drivers from ati's website but am getting message that suggests that it's not compatible with my kernel version. I've tried using gnome's configuration util which does detect second monitor and configures it. But when I click apply the second screen goes blank even though I'm able to move mouse to and from it.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi know if u search a solution in forums u get so much confused information. i hope this little manual will help all with the nvidia driver problem! u dont need to edit or create a xorg.conf or something to run the driver correct and u need no blacklistedit too! if u did the standard opensuse 11.3 install its only about 2 kernel packages and the disabling of the x11noveau driver.
1. after standard installing opensuse 11.3 update and install the opensuse softwareupdates
2. install with the yast software re/installer:
(from Desktop or from the terminal. the terminal text command is: yast2)

u dont need to change the menu.lst after all, only u get many problems. run the midnight commander and delete the nomodeset word and the noveau driver would be normally still active after reboot.
After a disk crash I reinstalled openSuSE 11.2 and as always downloaded the latest Nvidia driver for my geforce 8200 graphics.
Unlike all previous cases, this time the driver does not install. The contents of /var/log/nvidia-installer.log are below. The error refers to being unable to to locate version.h

For those who need or want to install the latest ATI proprietary driver (Catalyst 11.2) right after a fresh 11.4 install - and might not look for solutions in the development subforum. In order to compile the module, I installed the kernel sources and the pattern devel_basis. I normally use most packages in this pattern, so I install it by default from other scripts. While running atiupgrade on a fresh install, I was surprised by the number of packages getting installed with that pattern. Please report if it doesn't work. (like aticonfig initial failed to add a fglrx section for some reason).Take a look at the atiupgrade thread in the development forum: Upgrading ATI driver with atiupgrade.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo ... right now I'm having an issue after I installed ATI Catalyst 10.8 for my GPU HD 5770.Every time I try to boot, it sends me to init3 (I mean text screen). But when I check and try to switch to init5, it tells me that I'm on init5 already. And I'm still stuck on the text screen. However, safemode is still working (yeah I'm on it right now - -").
I installed ATI driver by using this instuction --- openSUSE Lizards ATI HD57xxx fglrx drivers under 11.3
I have a qzd netbook with opensuse 11.2 running but I cannot get the graphics working. I have tried "startx" and get the following:

I've had a graphical card and I've downloaded the driver (from the official website of NVIDIA) with extension .run. As I forget the command line to install it, I would like to ask about it.

Installed 11.4 yesterday. No problems. Installed Gnome 3 today and it goes into fallback mode. Assuming that the graphics driver might be the culprit, I attempted to install the latest nvidia driver.
Added repo ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.4/ in Yast2.
Did a refresh and it complains that it cannot access installation media at the above. Paste the above in Firefox and it gets there OK.
One-click method also fails.
Never had a problem with updating nvidia driver before. Not sure what to check. I did delete and add with no success.
BTW, the other defined repos in Yast2 work fine.
iam trying to install the ATI Driver at 11.2.After install an reboot 11.2 doesn`t start again, the screen goes black or commandlines shown. My Graphigcard is ATI(Sapphire X1650 Series)512MB Cardspace AGP.
Who can help me with this problem. Is 1 click install ok,try it and than problems.
I have tried install drivers of Ati ,9.10 and 9.11 always same result black screen, i think problem is information on installation system is on glibc 2.1 but, I have tested and glibc 2.3 and 2.2 are installed, for that the result is :
Unloading radeon module...
Unloading drm module...

after installing 11.4 I can no longer boot into KDE using the ATI driver from their website. Same thing happened prior to 11.4 but I assumed it was an out of date driver so I updated SUSE + the driver, no difference. Boots straight to command line. I was getting errors about the Xorg.conf.old file unable to be overwritten when I tried 'Xorg -configure'. I did find a few solutions from other threads and simply deleting Xorg.conf allows me to boot into KDE using the default (whatever that is) graphics driver (fps is very low but it boots at least).
Any time I reinstalled the ATI driver/tried to use it it would die again. After a bit of searching around the log files for Xorg and X11 I found an error about "display not found" or something of that nature and then it was giving up and booting to cmd. had it working fine in the past prior to a software update (either driver or kernel or both, I don't remember) so I'm not entirely sure what broke it. I can give more specific error details once I get home in an hour or two but I'm just wondering if the latest ATI driver (11.2? I think it is) is compatible with openSUSE 11.4 and if anyone has a solution to this problem.
I'm looking to install an nVIDIA driver (sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.53-pkg2.run is the command I used) but it tells me I need to do it when the xfree isn't running
So what I'm looking for is a way to boot up to the command line, is that possible on SUSE 11.2?
I did a fresh install of openSUSE 11.2 32 bit today and installed all updates. I also installed the kernel sources and kernel symbols. Finally I installed the ATI drivers from http:///www2.ati.com/suse/11.2. The drivers didn't work after that, so I tried to run the 32 bit driver installer suitable for my gfx card (Radeon X800 XT PE -> v9.3), where I got the following error message:

I had no such problems with openSUSE 11.1 32 bit. Is there a way to install the drivers on my system? If yes, how would I do it?
I have unfortunately found myself unable to properly boot up openSUSE because I decided to buy the Acer Aspire with the i5 Processor.
I have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) graphics card, and unfortunately from all my searching online and on openSUSE, I have been unable to find a driver for this that works for linux, and in addition I don't know how to install a driver outside of a GUI.
My openSUSE boots up to the boot choosing screen (regular openSUSE or failsafe), and then that nice list of functions being done is displayed, but as soon as the daemon has started, suddenly my screen goes blank and I am unable to do anything about it. Beyond this point, my OS loses all functionability, and while I can hear it computing, I am unable to actually tell WHAT it is computing. get a driver for this and to install this driver and get this GUI running, that would be great.
how can I check if my graphics card's driver is installed. And if not, how can I install it and where can I download it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been running OpenSuSE 11.2 for some time now; my system is a Dell 64-bit with an ATI 46xx graphics card and I've used the proprietary ATI driver without difficulty, as the driver provided with OpenSuSE was pretty much unusable. I'm considering upgrading to v11.3, but there seem to be scattered horror stories involving ATI cards, particularly when it comes to ATI's proprietary driver.

Main desktop upgrade no problem. Laptop upgrade no problem. With my Media machine I had a problem the the ATI build-in graphics hardware. During install it did not ask to remove the ATI driver. no graphical UI. Since all the data where backed up anyway and the original install lacked some partitioning, I did a fresh install. Had some problems with sound, which I could fix via the KDE multimedia "phonon".

I installed the newest Nvidea driver for linux but when I look under system info it sais 3D driver: swrast (No 3D Acceleration) (7.10)) How can I turn this on?
Also under CPU info the speed switches between 800MHz, 1400MHz and the normal 2.6Ghz (x4 for the Quad Core). Is something wrong or does it shows how much the system is using current?
Lastly my pc shows the following:
OS: Linux 2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop x86_64, Current user: robertjan@linux-18xg, System: openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64), KDE: 4.6.00 (4.6.0) "release 6"
Since I see x86_64 how do I know if I installed the x64 version which I downloaded?
I am following the how to at ATI drivers - openSUSE and I am getting an error. I installed the opensuse 11.2 x64bit version and I have a Radeon x600 video card. When trying to install the propietary driver (which I guess I need to enable 3d HCL/ATI Video Cards - openSUSE) I get the following error:

* My Graphics card is a NVIDIA Geforce 7900 GTX. I am running OpenSUSE 11.2. I have attempted to install the Propriety NVIDIA Drivers (without success). I have added the repository to YAST, then proceeded to install the NVIDIA software.
I then proceeded to reboot my computer into "init 3" mode. I ran the nvidia-xconfig tool as described in the
openSUSE Graphic Card Practical Theory Guide for Users site I then proceeded to type "startx" and it failed to load.
recently I have downloaded opensuse 11.3.tried to install latest version of graphic driver.but after uncompressing it says:

is there a method to install the drivers on openSUSE 11.4?
dkms is a facility which lets you to install drivers as module and it'll compatible with kernel upgrade.Driver will live as its source code in system,so after each kernel upgrade , driver module will recompile itself to work properly with new kernel.I read about dkms , but I have no experience to configure it by myself. I want to install nvidia driver using dkms, but I don't know how and where I can find source code of nvidia driver.
