OpenSUSE Install :: How To Install Driver With RUN Extension
Mar 28, 2011
I've had a graphical card and I've downloaded the driver (from the official website of NVIDIA) with extension .run. As I forget the command line to install it, I would like to ask about it.
I can install the extension MozillaThunderbird Lightning for opensuse 11.3 and Thunderbird v3.1.1. I find on the web for 1-click install is for openSUSE 11.2.
When I try to get to the configuration of my monitor by using KDE Settings -> hardware -> monitor, I receive the msg: "Your X server is running the RandR extension at version 1.2 or greater which doesn't have any configuration yet." and it refuses to go further. What does this mean and where should I configure it? When I use Yast, Sax2 starts normally.
im trying to install tine 2.0 on a webserver at my uni but i need to install mcrypt extention i also get an error message with phpmyadmin. the server has php 5.2.8 installed and Apache 2.2.10.
i have followed a guide found at this url but i dont know how to rebuild php. [URL] i have downloaded and installed
libmcrypt-2.5.7 mcrypt-2.6.4 mhash-0.9.9.9
i uncompressed in the pacakages in thr root folder /root/ then cd ed in to there root folder ran these commands as per the guide:
I didn't delete my old extension and recently mounted it so I could retrieve the data. I was wondering if there was any way I could make it the extension to my current native without deleting any of the data? Or if attaching it as an extension was at all possible at this point.
After a disk crash I reinstalled openSuSE 11.2 and as always downloaded the latest Nvidia driver for my geforce 8200 graphics.
Unlike all previous cases, this time the driver does not install. The contents of /var/log/nvidia-installer.log are below. The error refers to being unable to to locate version.h
For those who need or want to install the latest ATI proprietary driver (Catalyst 11.2) right after a fresh 11.4 install - and might not look for solutions in the development subforum. In order to compile the module, I installed the kernel sources and the pattern devel_basis. I normally use most packages in this pattern, so I install it by default from other scripts. While running atiupgrade on a fresh install, I was surprised by the number of packages getting installed with that pattern. Please report if it doesn't work. (like aticonfig initial failed to add a fglrx section for some reason).Take a look at the atiupgrade thread in the development forum: Upgrading ATI driver with atiupgrade.
So ... right now I'm having an issue after I installed ATI Catalyst 10.8 for my GPU HD 5770.Every time I try to boot, it sends me to init3 (I mean text screen). But when I check and try to switch to init5, it tells me that I'm on init5 already. And I'm still stuck on the text screen. However, safemode is still working (yeah I'm on it right now - -").
I installed ATI driver by using this instuction --- openSUSE Lizards ATI HD57xxx fglrx drivers under 11.3
i know if u search a solution in forums u get so much confused information. i hope this little manual will help all with the nvidia driver problem! u dont need to edit or create a xorg.conf or something to run the driver correct and u need no blacklistedit too! if u did the standard opensuse 11.3 install its only about 2 kernel packages and the disabling of the x11noveau driver.
1. after standard installing opensuse 11.3 update and install the opensuse softwareupdates
2. install with the yast software re/installer:
(from Desktop or from the terminal. the terminal text command is: yast2)

u dont need to change the menu.lst after all, only u get many problems. run the midnight commander and delete the nomodeset word and the noveau driver would be normally still active after reboot.
I have a qzd netbook with opensuse 11.2 running but I cannot get the graphics working. I have tried "startx" and get the following:
xauth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.4650 X.Org X Server 1.6.5 Release Date: 2009-10-11 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: openSUSE SUSE LINUX
Installed 11.4 yesterday. No problems. Installed Gnome 3 today and it goes into fallback mode. Assuming that the graphics driver might be the culprit, I attempted to install the latest nvidia driver.
Added repo ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.4/ in Yast2.
Did a refresh and it complains that it cannot access installation media at the above. Paste the above in Firefox and it gets there OK.
One-click method also fails.
Never had a problem with updating nvidia driver before. Not sure what to check. I did delete and add with no success.
I wanted to try my hand at programming in an easy way, so I installed from the Ubuntu Software Center Basic-256. But it is more than 3 years old and does not fit to a book I downloaded. I got from Sourceforge the latest version which is a .tgz file. How do I install it?

I have recently installed Debian 6.0. Tried to install a program ,but I could not do it. The prog is called IOmeter (sorry, can't link it). I have also tried the " sudo apt-get install command i the terminal. It's easy to install the prog in Windows.
i have just installed peppermint ice and the default browser is chromium but when i used firefox there was a up and down arrow at the side of a web page, there is no arrows in chromium and i was wondering if anyone knows if there is an extension to install one in chromium?
iam trying to install the ATI Driver at 11.2.After install an reboot 11.2 doesn`t start again, the screen goes black or commandlines shown. My Graphigcard is ATI(Sapphire X1650 Series)512MB Cardspace AGP.
Who can help me with this problem. Is 1 click install ok,try it and than problems.
I have tried install drivers of Ati ,9.10 and 9.11 always same result black screen, i think problem is information on installation system is on glibc 2.1 but, I have tested and glibc 2.3 and 2.2 are installed, for that the result is :
Unloading radeon module... Unloading drm module... [Message] Kernel Module : Trying to install a precompiled kernel module.
after installing 11.4 I can no longer boot into KDE using the ATI driver from their website. Same thing happened prior to 11.4 but I assumed it was an out of date driver so I updated SUSE + the driver, no difference. Boots straight to command line. I was getting errors about the Xorg.conf.old file unable to be overwritten when I tried 'Xorg -configure'. I did find a few solutions from other threads and simply deleting Xorg.conf allows me to boot into KDE using the default (whatever that is) graphics driver (fps is very low but it boots at least).
Any time I reinstalled the ATI driver/tried to use it it would die again. After a bit of searching around the log files for Xorg and X11 I found an error about "display not found" or something of that nature and then it was giving up and booting to cmd. had it working fine in the past prior to a software update (either driver or kernel or both, I don't remember) so I'm not entirely sure what broke it. I can give more specific error details once I get home in an hour or two but I'm just wondering if the latest ATI driver (11.2? I think it is) is compatible with openSUSE 11.4 and if anyone has a solution to this problem.
I'm looking to install an nVIDIA driver (sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.53-pkg2.run is the command I used) but it tells me I need to do it when the xfree isn't running
So what I'm looking for is a way to boot up to the command line, is that possible on SUSE 11.2?
I did a fresh install of openSUSE 11.2 32 bit today and installed all updates. I also installed the kernel sources and kernel symbols. Finally I installed the ATI drivers from http:///www2.ati.com/suse/11.2. The drivers didn't work after that, so I tried to run the 32 bit driver installer suitable for my gfx card (Radeon X800 XT PE -> v9.3), where I got the following error message:
================================================== ATI Technologies Linux Driver Installer/Packager ================================================== which: no XFree86 in (/usr/lib/mpi/gcc/openmpi/bin:/home/schaeff/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/games:/usr/lib/mit/bin:/usr/lib/mit/sbin) Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version

I had no such problems with openSUSE 11.1 32 bit. Is there a way to install the drivers on my system? If yes, how would I do it?
I have unfortunately found myself unable to properly boot up openSUSE because I decided to buy the Acer Aspire with the i5 Processor.
I have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) graphics card, and unfortunately from all my searching online and on openSUSE, I have been unable to find a driver for this that works for linux, and in addition I don't know how to install a driver outside of a GUI.
My openSUSE boots up to the boot choosing screen (regular openSUSE or failsafe), and then that nice list of functions being done is displayed, but as soon as the daemon has started, suddenly my screen goes blank and I am unable to do anything about it. Beyond this point, my OS loses all functionability, and while I can hear it computing, I am unable to actually tell WHAT it is computing. get a driver for this and to install this driver and get this GUI running, that would be great.
I've been running OpenSuSE 11.2 for some time now; my system is a Dell 64-bit with an ATI 46xx graphics card and I've used the proprietary ATI driver without difficulty, as the driver provided with OpenSuSE was pretty much unusable. I'm considering upgrading to v11.3, but there seem to be scattered horror stories involving ATI cards, particularly when it comes to ATI's proprietary driver.
I installed on my laptop NVIDIA driver from the opensuse repository. After restart i am not geting the GUI.The screen blinks while booting and finally ends in command line login. Error shows that gdm lasted for only few seconds. Max number of try exceeded.

Main desktop upgrade no problem. Laptop upgrade no problem. With my Media machine I had a problem the the ATI build-in graphics hardware. During install it did not ask to remove the ATI driver. no graphical UI. Since all the data where backed up anyway and the original install lacked some partitioning, I did a fresh install. Had some problems with sound, which I could fix via the KDE multimedia "phonon".
I installed Suse 11.4 and have a couple of questions.
I installed the newest Nvidea driver for linux but when I look under system info it sais 3D driver: swrast (No 3D Acceleration) (7.10)) How can I turn this on?
Also under CPU info the speed switches between 800MHz, 1400MHz and the normal 2.6Ghz (x4 for the Quad Core). Is something wrong or does it shows how much the system is using current?
Lastly my pc shows the following:
OS: Linux 2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop x86_64, Current user: robertjan@linux-18xg, System: openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64), KDE: 4.6.00 (4.6.0) "release 6"
Since I see x86_64 how do I know if I installed the x64 version which I downloaded?
