OpenSUSE Hardware :: Which Driver To Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT AGP 256MB

Feb 20, 2010

I didn't found working driver for my card yet. Using OpenSUSE 11.2 KDE, Motherboard MSI 648F Neo, Pentium4 2.8GHz, 2 x 1GB DDR.I've found, that my card should be supported according to HCL/ATI Video Cards - openSUSEInstallation following ATI drivers - openSUSE Easy Way didn't work because of chcecksum difference (x11-video-fglrxG02), Repositary Way too. Hard Way Installation resulted to disability of Graphic Environment and I wasn't able to fix that (finally, I somehow get running KDE, but Kwin always broke down, so system was unuseful).

I also tried packages found by Software search (Software.openSUSE.org), so package 'xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd' but nothing works for me, some of them provide result of "glxingo | grep direct" -> "No", some of them "Yes", but in this case I wasn't able to run "glxgears", because of error "drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22. Kernel failed to parse or rejected command stream. See dmesg for more info." Desktop Effects I cannot run anyway. how to get graphic acceleration working. It will be great if is here someone with exactly same, or similar card, he could write a step-by-step guide to do that. Starting with fresh installation of OpenSUSE (not corrupted by my previous tries) is not problem.

Ubuntu Installation :: Install ATI Driver For 5770 In 10.04?

Sep 5, 2010

Does anyone know how to install the video driver for a ATI HD5770 video card in 10.04? It was working, some recent update screwed it up, now I cannot reinstall it. What do you have to delete in order to fully get rid of the remnants of the old driver?

What packages have to be installed before or after though Synaptic? Are you supposed to install it by downloading the driver from ATI and SHing it? Or are you supposed to go though System->Hardware Drivers?

SUSE :: How To Install ATI Radeon HD 5770 Driver

Mar 20, 2010

I just installed OpenSUSE 11.2 x86_64 on a new computer with ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card. I have included ati in the update repositories. I saw that x11-video-fglrxG02 and ati-fglrxG02-kmp-desktop are NOT checked, so, I selected both in YAST2, then, OpenSUSE started to download the required files. but, in the middle of downloading, I got a "wrong digest", said that ati-fglrxG02-kmp-desktop has wrong checksum.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Radeon 5770 Open Source Driver

Mar 2, 2011

I just upgraded my rig from a 4770 to a 5770 video card.

My 4770 had basic 3d support out of the box with the open source radeon driver. My 5770 doesn't seem to (basic rendering only with no compositing), although this page suggests it does:

[URL]

Is there anyone out there who is running a 5770 or knows how I can upgrade to a newer version of the open source driver? I'd rather not use catalyst (Id don't game with ubuntu) and I found the open source driver to be quite nice.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Install Newer ATI Drivers For ATI HD 5770 On 10.10 X64?

Jan 11, 2011

Last night I was playing around with my system trying to install newer ATI drivers for my ATI HD 5770 on Ubuntu 10.10 x64. In my ignorance I downloaded the latest package from the ATI website and installed them directly over the drivers already running (...which were installed through the restricted software application). This caused a noticeable graphical slow down.

To correct my bad driver install I removed the downloaded package using the uninstall .sh found within ATI's wiki. However, the video performance did not improve. I then also removed the fglrx install through the repository, thinking this would revert me back to open source drivers upon reboot; Similar to how Windows reverts back to the OS driver when all 3rd party drivers have been removed.

However, this did not work as planned. On reboot I was presented with a 'no signal found' error with my monitor after viewing the Ubuntu splash screen (which does still display, oddly). After which I rebooted and attempted attempted a low graphical boot through the recovery menu, with the same result. Returning to the recovery console, I attempted to simply reinstall the fglrx driver

[Code]..

I am at wits end. Is there anyway for a newbie such as myself to recover from this double driver install/purge/etc? If not, is there a way to re-install the Ubuntu O/S files, but leave my installed programs/config files in place? While I know I can boot to a live CD to backup my content and reformat, it does take a very long time to move 500Gb of data between two drives.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: HDMI Sound Not Working On ATI Sapphire Radeon HD 5450

Jun 22, 2011

I recently installed ubuntu 10.10 on HTPC, after having a few RAM and SATA issues everything seems to be working fine, The audio (using HDMI) does not work. Have PC connected using HDMI for video (and I am hoping for audio too, this card is made for this and it has been tested with other OS) however the audio does not work, although in the audio preferences it shows to be using the correct hardware. Testing for sound under sound preferences does not play anything, acts as it it was, but no sound, no error messages either. I went ahead and installed ATIs proprietary drivers in hopes that it would make the audio work, but not luck so far.

OpenSUSE Install :: Stable - Install Nvidia - Driver 260.xx.xx In Opensuse 11.3?

Jan 19, 2011

i know if u search a solution in forums u get so much confused information. i hope this little manual will help all with the nvidia driver problem! u dont need to edit or create a xorg.conf or something to run the driver correct and u need no blacklistedit too! if u did the standard opensuse 11.3 install its only about 2 kernel packages and the disabling of the x11noveau driver.

1. after standard installing opensuse 11.3 update and install the opensuse softwareupdates

2. install with the yast software re/installer:

(from Desktop or from the terminal. the terminal text command is: yast2)

[Code]...

u dont need to change the menu.lst after all, only u get many problems. run the midnight commander and delete the nomodeset word and the noveau driver would be normally still active after reboot.

OpenSUSE Install :: Easy Install Of ATI Proprietary Driver In Console

Mar 12, 2011

For those who need or want to install the latest ATI proprietary driver (Catalyst 11.2) right after a fresh 11.4 install - and might not look for solutions in the development subforum. In order to compile the module, I installed the kernel sources and the pattern devel_basis. I normally use most packages in this pattern, so I install it by default from other scripts. While running atiupgrade on a fresh install, I was surprised by the number of packages getting installed with that pattern. Please report if it doesn't work. (like aticonfig initial failed to add a fglrx section for some reason).Take a look at the atiupgrade thread in the development forum: Upgrading ATI driver with atiupgrade.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.4 - Cannot Install Nvidia Driver ?

Aug 3, 2011

Nvidia h/w:Quadro FX 570

Installed 11.4 yesterday. No problems. Installed Gnome 3 today and it goes into fallback mode. Assuming that the graphics driver might be the culprit, I attempted to install the latest nvidia driver.

Added repo ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.4/ in Yast2.

Did a refresh and it complains that it cannot access installation media at the above. Paste the above in Firefox and it gets there OK.

One-click method also fails.

Never had a problem with updating nvidia driver before. Not sure what to check. I did delete and add with no success.

BTW, the other defined repos in Yast2 work fine.

OpenSUSE Install :: ATI Driver + 11.4 - Can't Boot To KDE?

Mar 15, 2011

after installing 11.4 I can no longer boot into KDE using the ATI driver from their website. Same thing happened prior to 11.4 but I assumed it was an out of date driver so I updated SUSE + the driver, no difference. Boots straight to command line. I was getting errors about the Xorg.conf.old file unable to be overwritten when I tried 'Xorg -configure'. I did find a few solutions from other threads and simply deleting Xorg.conf allows me to boot into KDE using the default (whatever that is) graphics driver (fps is very low but it boots at least).

Any time I reinstalled the ATI driver/tried to use it it would die again. After a bit of searching around the log files for Xorg and X11 I found an error about "display not found" or something of that nature and then it was giving up and booting to cmd. had it working fine in the past prior to a software update (either driver or kernel or both, I don't remember) so I'm not entirely sure what broke it. I can give more specific error details once I get home in an hour or two but I'm just wondering if the latest ATI driver (11.2? I think it is) is compatible with openSUSE 11.4 and if anyone has a solution to this problem.

Ubuntu Installation :: 9.10 To 10.4 Upgrade Fails On HD 5770?

I tried the grub nomodeset without luck. I am at the desktop in safe mode. If someone can tell me how to edit a file to enable the graphics again, I'd be forever grateful. Sorry if this was answered, but search only gave me help with the Intel 850 graphics problems and not what I was seeking.

OpenSUSE Install :: Graphics Card Driver For GMA HD?

Jun 25, 2010

I have unfortunately found myself unable to properly boot up openSUSE because I decided to buy the Acer Aspire with the i5 Processor.

I have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) graphics card, and unfortunately from all my searching online and on openSUSE, I have been unable to find a driver for this that works for linux, and in addition I don't know how to install a driver outside of a GUI.

My openSUSE boots up to the boot choosing screen (regular openSUSE or failsafe), and then that nice list of functions being done is displayed, but as soon as the daemon has started, suddenly my screen goes blank and I am unable to do anything about it. Beyond this point, my OS loses all functionability, and while I can hear it computing, I am unable to actually tell WHAT it is computing. get a driver for this and to install this driver and get this GUI running, that would be great.

I installed the newest Nvidea driver for linux but when I look under system info it sais 3D driver: swrast (No 3D Acceleration) (7.10)) How can I turn this on?

Also under CPU info the speed switches between 800MHz, 1400MHz and the normal 2.6Ghz (x4 for the Quad Core). Is something wrong or does it shows how much the system is using current?

Lastly my pc shows the following:

OS: Linux 2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop x86_64, Current user: robertjan@linux-18xg, System: openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64), KDE: 4.6.00 (4.6.0) "release 6"

Since I see x86_64 how do I know if I installed the x64 version which I downloaded?
