Ubuntu 9.10 was set up to handle the booting selection - previously I thought it was xp but Ubuntu 9.10 "did" it. The system started out as a xp / ubuntu 9.10 dual boot on a 400gb drive. xp has 210gb, ub has 80 and their is a 100gb shared storage. Xp was installed first and then I followed a guide over at linuxconfig.org to get ub installed so that I could select which OS was wanted at boot. Ubuntu manages the boot up menu (Went back to look at my notes from the original setup) The owner tried to update to ub 11.04 and afterall was said and done the machine now boots to the message
error file not found grub rescue I can't say if 11.04 was properly installed or not. Ask whatever you like and I'll give the best answer I can. I think the xp install is okay but I can't say for certain as I don't know how to boot it outside the bootmanager at startup. Data has been saved so if I have to blow it all away and start over I can but I'm hoping I won't have to.

error message when I ran my program that I couldn't open my local file. I have two files first one is called client, second one is called server I am using named pipes to sent a message from client to the other file called server in client I used mknod() to create the two named pipes, one for read, one for write and created new thread in client using fork() spawned a child process that executed the server file both named pipes are opened the client file got the message from the user and sent it through the named pipes to the server file when the server receives the message , it needs to verfify it is correct in the server file, a local file descriptor is created to read and send this verifing message when it is not correct but I am getting an OPEN() error when I tried to open this shared local array buff and attach it to a file descriptor where the message is kept why do I get this error in server file
int main()

when i wget aro2220.com it displays
--2011-03-02 16:35:58-- url... 127.0.1.1
Connecting to aro2220.com|127.0.1.1|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 177 [text/html]
Saving to: 'index.html'
100%
2011-03-02 16:35:58 (12.4 MB/s) - 'index.html' saved [177/177]
However, when I look into the file it is actually blank saying something like "It works! This is the default web page for this server" which can't be correct since that is not what Aro2220.com actually displays.
Furthermore, when I try to wget files I've put on the server for myself it returns a 404, file not found.

I recently upgraded my file/media server to Fedora 11. After doing so, I can no longer copy large files to the server. The files begin to transfer, but typically after about 1gb of the file has transferred, the transfer stalls and ultimately fails with the message:
"Error writing to file: Input/output error"
I've run out of ideas as to what could cause this problem. I have tried the following:
1. Different NFS versions: NFS3 and NFS4
2. Tried copying the files to different physical drives on the server.
3. Tried copying the files from different physical drives on the client.
4. Tried different rsize and wsize block sizes when mounting the NFS share
5. Tried copying the files via a different protocol. SSH in this case. The file transfers are always successful when I use SSH.
Regardless of what I do, the result is the same. The file transfers always fail after approximately 1gb.
Some other notes.
1. Both the client and the server are running Fedora 11 kernel 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.x86_64
I am out of ideas. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

My ubuntu stops when mounting system hdd. The screen display the following messages :

I suspect the disk manager pysdm that i had just installed today and it had crash during the previous session. The /etc/fstab file does not exist anymore and i cant rename the fstab.bak because the disk is read-only even for my root user

I have a log file that has an I/O Error about halfway in. It is a syslog file with Sendmail log entries. I need to break into smaller files. I tried using a simple egrep command creating new files by the date _egrep "^Sep 19" filename_ but the command hangs when it hits the I/O Error.
I tried split but it bails out when it hits the I/O Error. Is there anyway to read the file and get past the I/O Error? IS there a way to read the file from the bottom up so I can get the data from the top and bottom?

I am migrating an application from HP-UX to Redhat Linux and I have some files of scripts. In one of the script files I have the line /pylive/smartPAY/spserver/scripts/sp.con which is the correct path and file name for an existing file. However I get the message "No such File or Directory/pylive/smartPAY/spserver/scripts/sp.con" The script worked fine in HP-UX, why not in Redhat Linux?

when I try to print the current keyboard layout with "xkbprint -o layout.ps" it gives me the error mentioned in the subject. I also remember printing it a couple of weeks ago (and I'm sure I didn't specify any additional options), but now it just doesn't work. Everything I read on the Net assume this command prints the current layout, and so far I haven't discovered even the slightest mention of this error. It's a trifle, but it drives me mad. What could I be doing wrong?
