i am trying to download this file from this location:[URL}.. it works under windows without a problem its a 500 MB file.
in ubuntu 6.06 lts server i put the command
cd /usr/src

and i get this

I'm at a lost right now, I tried researching to find a possible reason, but I'm coming up short. I have a dual boot laptop with both fedora core 12 and windows7. Could there be a conflict between the two drives? I have the YUM extender on my linux drive performing the updates for me. I tried doing a YUM update via the terminal viewer, but I still get the same message.Any ideas as to why I'm getting this message, or how to fix this problem?
I have two questions.
1- The vfstpd is running on the Centos server. The server is in the same home network. The SeLinux and firewall are disabled. I can use Filzilla from a Windows PC from another computer and connect and see directory listing. There is a user names adminftp and he is a memeber of root group. When I try to upload or download I get an ftp critical error message.
2- How can I install Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave on this Linux box?

I need to use wget (or curl or aget etc) to download a file to two different download destinations by downloading it in two halves:
First: 0 to 490000 bytes of file
Second: 490001 to 1000000 bytes of file.
I will be downloading this to separate download destinations and will merge them back to speed up the download. The file is really large and my ISP is really slow, so I need to get help from friends to download this in parts (actually in multiple parts)

aget seems to download in parts but I have no way of controlling precisely which part (either in percentage or in bytes) that I wish to download.

Just to be clear I do not wish to download from multiple locations, I want to download to multiple locations. I also do not want to download multiple files (it is just a single file). I want to download parts of the same file, and I want to specify the parts that I need to download.
I need to download a file from a website which has a URL formatted like:
[URL]
This redirects to a .zip file which has to be saved. There is also a need to authenticate based on username and password.
I tried to use wget, curl and lynx with no luck.
UPDATE:
wget doesnt work with redirection. It simply downloads the webpage instead of the zip file. curl gives the error "Maximum redirection exceeded > 50 " lynx also gives the same error.
I am removing some old graphics from my server and one of the gallery programs have created two enormous directories that I cannot even open with FTP.
I tried to tar each directory and the first came out to about 37gb and the second keeps failing (its bigger one would assume).
How can I archive and split these into smaller files?

Ubuntu 9.10 was set up to handle the booting selection - previously I thought it was xp but Ubuntu 9.10 "did" it. The system started out as a xp / ubuntu 9.10 dual boot on a 400gb drive. xp has 210gb, ub has 80 and their is a 100gb shared storage. Xp was installed first and then I followed a guide over at linuxconfig.org to get ub installed so that I could select which OS was wanted at boot. Ubuntu manages the boot up menu (Went back to look at my notes from the original setup) The owner tried to update to ub 11.04 and afterall was said and done the machine now boots to the message

I think the xp install is okay but I can't say for certain as I don't know how to boot it outside the bootmanager at startup. I have two files first one is called client, second one is called server I am using named pipes to sent a message from client to the other file called server in client I used mknod() to create the two named pipes,one for read,one for write and created new thread in client using fork() spawned a child process that executed the server file both named pipes are opened the client file got the message from the user and sent it through the named pipes to the server file when the server receives the message , it needs to verfify it is correct in the server file, a local file descriptor is created to read and send this verifing message when it is not correct but I am getting an OPEN() error when I tried to open this shared local array buff and attach it to a file descriptor where the message is kept why do I get this error in server file
