There seems to be some problem in my dns server.
The configuration is perfectly ok.But what happens sometimes is,
it couldn't resolve some domains sometimes.After restarting the
named,it again resolves the domain.

I have set up DNS server set up on my RH 5.5 system. It is working perfectly as Caching only Server but but when i tried to make it a primary server for a zone it didn't resolved. I am actually a newbie so please correct me if i am wrong somewhere. Here are my configuration files code...

I'd like to open this to discuss server administration, server setup, and server maintenance. However, I have a pretty good start on all of those but serving a domain name to my static ip. Here my static ip is 24.10.202.144. I registered a domain through [URL]... It appears that I have the domain working to forward to my ip. However, I am still getting this output file from apache.

I have tested the domain name across a few different computers on different ips. It works appropriately. I just want to make sure I have it set correctly on the (apache) server side of things. Then I can get more into Zone Editing etc.
I am using CentOS 5.5 and have installed PowerDNS with MySQL backend. I have Apache and PHP installed and I'm using PowerAdmin to create the master zone.I have tried to configure the zone to resolve my domain name and I have had no success.I've googled and read tutorials and have tried suggested methods, but it's still not working.This is a new adventure for me and I would like to be able to host a site from my home for experimental purposes. I am a mature (read OLD) student enrolled in Networking and have done some units in Web Design (though I'm not very good at it).

I changed my zone files to the new address and updated my nameservers to the ones given by the new ISP and now, my main domain wont work, I can however, receive mail, checking using DNS quick check works and other domains are fine. I'm using OPENSUSE 11

Whenever I try to use the sudo command in the terminal I get the message unable to resolve host, then my computer name. Here's some command line output with some files which I think may be causing the problem. I have Operating Systems homework and need sudo

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have hosted three websites on a computer at home on debian. i use ServerName directive for each site to map it to the desired dir. For example there are kdelchev.com and webtut.org on the same IP(95.111.108.148).
When i try to open any of my sites eg. kdelchev.com with my pocket pc (Asus P535) it displays carstatistics.eu, instead the site i want. Is that an apache misconfiguration? And what have to change to make it working?
I recently installed bind9 on mandriva 2008.1, after having done the necessary configuration.. I still can't find my domain I configured cant ping on other machines on the LAN but can actually ping on any other website on the internet even though name server is configured to point to local machine..... I dont understand what I'm doing wrong.
View 14 Replies View RelatedClient unable to listen to NIS domain server.I have configured an NIS server, which is working fine.I then configured an NIS client to share some like passwd, shadow, etc.By default the client was trying to communicate to the NIS server using the broadcast method..However if I restart the client computer, it fails to communicate or Listen to the domain server. Once I login to the pc, I then check the /etc/yp.conf file and it switched back to the broadcast method.Is there any way that I can make this entry: domain naman.com server station51.naman.com permanent so that even after the reboot it should communicate using the client-server connection rather than the broadcast connection.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAs the title suggest, I have downlaoded the latest copy of Ubuntu Server from the ubuntu website.Everything installed fine. DHCP configured ok as far as I can tell. I can ping other machines on my network (which are running Windows) and they can ping the Ubuntu machine and conenct to Apache which is running on it.If I try to ping google.com or any other domain, it gives the correct IP address but gives no response to any pings, dont telnet on port 80 (or any toher potr for that matter) on any machine on the internet. I checked the settings using ifconfig to see what DHCP had assigned, and they matched the windows machines configuration (other than the IP address obvisouly). I tried assigning a static IP, even reserving a particular IP for my NIC.
Whatever I do, i cant connect to any machine outside the network via IP or domain.I have searched everywhere and tried everything i can find on the net but still to no avail.The Windows machines are part of a domain called alcom-uk.local and run off of a Windows Small Business 2003 Server. Not sure if i need to manually setup Ubuntu to connect using a domain or anything.
I want to host 5 websites on my new virtual server so I have created 2 nameservers that point to my virtual server's IP addresses as a glue record. What confuses me is when I create a new domain on my server it gives the new domain it's own nameservers (ns1.thenewdomain.co.uk etc) do I need to change these records so they use the nameservers I created earlier? If I do? Which particular records should I change? I'm running a Unix virtual server with a Plesk control panel.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe're still using an NT Domain Server, and Samba is already configured properly. But the problem is if the shared folder is configured in samba to be accessed by group and not the domain username, authentication fails even if the user is member of the group.
Example#1: (authentication successful)

Example#2:

valid users = @domaingroup
Samba version is samba-3.0.33

Centos 5, After switching out server to another provider the website responds as it should but the server is unable to establish connections to remote servers. Yes the internet connection is fine, I'm actually working on the server remotely.

i have registered two domain names that i want to use to connect to my ubuntu server. I was wondering how to do this i was looking at bind9 but that didn't work that great. The server is behind a router with firewall i can connect to it using the external IP address but i like to use the two domain names if that is possible.

I'm having really weird and frustrating DNS issues with my clients unable to properly resolve the server's ip address. They can resolve each other's, and outside systems, but not the server - at least, not correctly, and not all the time.
I have one Ubuntu server set up that does both DHCP and DNS serving to the Windows systems. The server has DNS forwarding turned on to forward to OpenDNS's servers (I've tried using my ISP's dns servers but the problem remains).
The server is *not* set up as a firewall; I am actually using a DLink router for that, and the Dlink is *not* set up to serve up DHCP nor DNS.
What I am getting is that my clients - and there are nothing but Windows clients - will not resolve the name of the server. For example, if I do: ping linuxserver
I get back a false IP address of 192.168.0.64 (and I've seen once a 192.168.2.49).
If, however, I put a dot in there: ping linuxserver.
I get back the *correct* IP address of 192.168.0.2, and thereafter, ping'ng linuxserver without the dot will work. Until the dns cache expires, either naturally or with ipconfig /flushdns on the windows clients.
The client *are* getting valid dhcp leases and can resolve everything happy-happy, they just will not get the proper address of the server 100% of the time.
Is there a way to force a domain to resolve to a specific IP using .htaccess?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a strange issue with Filezilla that doesn't affect any other apps.I know my network isnt IPv6 friendly, so I've disabled it in Firefox and in Ubuntu - everything bar Filezilla finds and resolves addresses properly. Filezilla just gives me the responses below, trying to connect to 1.0.0.0:21 for any domain I try to FTP to. If I then go to terminal and do an ftp ftp.asdad.com etc, once terminal has resolved the domain, filezilla works - very odd. how I can stop having to do this step in terminal?

resolve.conf has the DNS according to DHCP offer, from command line dig properly resolves the name, ping (e.g. google) works, telnet to domain-name on port 80 works, GET too. When using the browser with the domain-name I tells me "Server not found", tcpdump doesn't display any activity. But when I manually change the domain-name with the IP (received by command line dig) then the browser has no problem how do browsers interact with the network resources of the OS?
I am unable to get any sound from my speakers I know they work because I have windows 7 on the second hard drive and they work, however, not using Ubuntu 10.10. I looked at the propriatory drives and it isn't there my sound card is a Realtek High Definition Stereo ALC260 can anyone Help.
