View 1 RepliesHow can I force a Wine application (or Wine itself) to use a specific network interface? I have installed hamachi and am trying to play starcraft over virtual LAN. However, when I run Starcraft with hamachi running, it does not work. I have now determined that hamachi creates a network interface called "ham0". How do I force Wine/Starcraft to use the "ham0" network connection? I have looked into forcebindip but it crashes on wine.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy co-workers and I are trying to develop a USB device, which uses an FTDI chip as a USB-serial controller. The thing is, we would ideally like to set a custom idVendor and idProduct on the FTDI chip. The problem occurs that when we set custom idVendor and idProduct values, udev(7) loads the "usb" driver. If we leave the idVendor and idProduct values to their originals, udev(7) loads the "ftdi_sio" driver. The whole reason for the custom idVendor and idProduct values is so that I can (hopefully) write a udev(7) rule to map that particular device to a specific entry in /dev. Is there a way to write a udev(7) rule so that you can forcefully load a particular driver for a device? Is there something else that could be done to get a similar result?

I'm having a strange issue with Filezilla that doesn't affect any other apps.I know my network isnt IPv6 friendly, so I've disabled it in Firefox and in Ubuntu - everything bar Filezilla finds and resolves addresses properly. Filezilla just gives me the responses below, trying to connect to 1.0.0.0:21 for any domain I try to FTP to. If I then go to terminal and do an ftp ftp.asdad.com etc, once terminal has resolved the domain, filezilla works - very odd. how I can stop having to do this step in terminal?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have hosted three websites on a computer at home on debian. i use ServerName directive for each site to map it to the desired dir. For example there are kdelchev.com and webtut.org on the same IP(95.111.108.148).
When i try to open any of my sites eg. kdelchev.com with my pocket pc (Asus P535) it displays carstatistics.eu, instead the site i want. Is that an apache misconfiguration? And what have to change to make it working?
I use the DynDNS service to keep track of my home server IP. The problem here is that when I try to access my web server via my domain name, the connection is refused. If I first obtain the ip adress (via nslookup), I can get access. I checked the reverse dns lookup and the results dont match. Perhaps this can be a problem browsing. Does the browser or the OS perform the rdns check? Is there a way to whitelist some specific domain in order to skip that check, so I dont have to find out the IP address every time i want to access my home server.

resolve.conf has the DNS according to DHCP offer, from command line dig properly resolves the name, ping (e.g. google) works, telnet to domain-name on port 80 works, GET too. When using the browser with the domain-name I tells me "Server not found", tcpdump doesn't display any activity. But when I manually change the domain-name with the IP (received by command line dig) then the browser has no problem how do browsers interact with the network resources of the OS?
I recently installed bind9 on mandriva 2008.1, after having done the necessary configuration.. I still can't find my domain I configured cant ping on other machines on the LAN but can actually ping on any other website on the internet even though name server is configured to point to local machine..... I dont understand what I'm doing wrong.

As the title suggest, I have downlaoded the latest copy of Ubuntu Server from the ubuntu website.Everything installed fine. DHCP configured ok as far as I can tell. I can ping other machines on my network (which are running Windows) and they can ping the Ubuntu machine and conenct to Apache which is running on it.If I try to ping google.com or any other domain, it gives the correct IP address but gives no response to any pings, dont telnet on port 80 (or any toher potr for that matter) on any machine on the internet. I checked the settings using ifconfig to see what DHCP had assigned, and they matched the windows machines configuration (other than the IP address obvisouly). I tried assigning a static IP, even reserving a particular IP for my NIC.
Whatever I do, i cant connect to any machine outside the network via IP or domain.I have searched everywhere and tried everything i can find on the net but still to no avail. The Windows machines are part of a domain called alcom-uk.local and run off of a Windows Small Business 2003 Server. Not sure if i need to manually setup Ubuntu to connect using a domain or anything.
I am trying to figure this out and it seems I can't So, I have a server which hosts various domains, each domain with multiple subdomains. All websites are set up with "VirtualHost" and they all work properly. The problem I'm having is that if I enter any subdomain of the main domain, I can still reach the webpage. Is there some way of telling apache to DROP / display a forbidden message for all subdomains which are not listed in the VirtualHosts?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an internal domain (dev.lan) for which my Ubuntu server is authoritative. We have a number of subdomains under that domain (test.dev.lan, svn.dev.lan, etc.). The server also acts as the primary DNS server for my office. It was originally set up under Ubuntu 8 and worked great.
However, ever since we upgraded to Ubuntu 10, our Windows clients periodically lose the ability to resolve domains on the dev.lan domain. Internal IP addresses can still be pinged from the Windows machines so it does not appear to be a network-connectivity issue. External domain names continue to resolve without any problems. The only workaround is to restart networking on the Windows clients. It's frustrating because it happens several times a day.
bind9 logs no obvious error messages.
I have setup a home based web server to host a photo blog for myself and my friends. I will be running wordpress and possibly a phpbb3 forum. I'd like to open this to discuss server administration, server setup, and server maintenance. However, I have a pretty good start on all of those but serving a domain name to my static ip. Here my static ip is 24.10.202.144. I registered a domain through [URL]... It appears that I have the domain working to forward to my ip. However, I am still getting this output file from apache.

I have tested the domain name across a few different computers on different ips. It works appropriately. I just want to make sure I have it set correctly on the (apache) server side of things. Then I can get more into Zone Editing etc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAt work, we run Windows... Windows domain, windows workstations, etc. Today my boss asked me my thoughts on running an Ubuntu lab within the mixture of our existing Windows setup.
Well, that brought several questions to mind. So I understand you can bind an Ubuntu computer to a Windows domain, seems easy enough, whether you do it through Samba or the other guide I read that I kind of forget at the moment, but anyway...
I was just curious how Ubuntu interacts with domain users when on the windows domain. For example, if we have an Ubuntu machine on the Windows domain with a local user "administrator" and that's it, would any domain users be able to log into the Ubuntu work station, similar to how it is on Windows?
My audio setup is based on a single guitar amplifier, and from this I suffer from only being able to listen to one of the two stereo channels. Since I honestly don't care for stereo, I'd rather force Ubuntu to output all audio as mono instead of "upgrading" to a stereo compatible setup. Is there a way to do this?

trying to run stuff from CD or DVD ROMS >without< copying to my cluttered hard drive, and came to a thought that I'd like evaluated: Would it work to perhaps use sed during the cd-rom auto-mount or some other point to enable the executable bit for *.exe and other 'executables' to somehow override the read only factor? I'm not too familiar with sed except that i know it can insert/replace new patterns of data for defined patterns of existing data.. so would something like this work? Could it be implemented as permanent function of Ubuntu to 'checkbox' cd/dvd mounts to insert the exec' bit on all, known, or choice files as a sort of 'virtual' permissions that can be placed on RO mounts?
