View 14 RepliesFound the new small bug after November upgrades:Im using XFCE and now when Thunar showing files and directories in details view, i can one time open folder by double click, then go up to directory and double click wont work anymore, but in compact and in icon view thats work ok.Earlier this worked Ok from others views. Thinking that is bug.To XFCE users: try this too after latest updates...
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running Slackware 13.37 with XFCE. I'm trying to increase the menu button size. I remember having succeeded in doing this with XFCE 4.2, but I unfortunately forgot to write down how I did that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently logged into my Slackware 13.1 account and when I issued the "startx" command , there was no toolbar at the bottom and I couldn't see my mouse. I was able to click on a short-cut on my desktop , and my mouse came back. I can't open any thing except VirtualBox. When I open it , the top is cut off , so the minimize , maximize and close buttons are cut-off . I really have no idea what to do.P.S. I have XFCE instead of KDE
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have kubuntu since I like KDE, but I loathe Kubuntu's package manager gui. To solve that, I installed gtk and the Ubuntu Software Center.Every time I hit install for any package in the software center and give my password, the window closes. The installation completes, but I cannot navigate to any page listing the package that is being installed except the "installation in progress" page without the window closing
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Volume Management enabled in Thunar, and I have Removable Storage set to "Mount removable media when inserted". If I insert a DVD I get an icon on my desktop and in the side-pane of Thunar and a folder appears in /media. If I insert a CD I get... nothing. I can play an audio CD in gxine or mplayer or Decibel, but I can't browse the contents with Thunar. The same drive is used for both CDs and DVDs.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have encountered a problem with an XFCE Launch Error. Upon first login, if I double click any Thunar related icon or try to launch Thunar from the menu, it will take 20-30 seconds to start. At first it was giving me the following Launch Error: "The folder could not be opened. Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." After successive reboots, I no longer get the Launch Error, but it still takes 20-30 seconds to start Thunar.
This is a new install of OpenSUSE and I did updates. The first two updates I did were required by the update software itself. After that was complete I updated the rest of the recommended packages. I then installed gnome-control-center to get gnome-display-properties so I can adjust my login screen settings. Those are all the updates I have done.
I have poured over other threads about the aforementioned Launch Error, and it seems possible that it is related to message bus security policy or gtk2 settings somewhere.
Is there a way to log XFCE errors or message bus errors to a file for troubleshooting? I would like to find out why and where this is happening.
When I open Thunar, I can see thumbnails of jpegs, but not for video, pdf or document files. I've got the Thumbnailers package installed as part of XFCE Goodies, and also ffmpegthumbnailers (? I think, I'm at work so can't check). I've looked for a setting to change, but can't see anything relevant. Previous installations have allowed me to have beautiful thumnail icons.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my main PC's Xfce 4.6 to Xfce 4.8 this morning. Now, every time I start Thunar for the first time after a new boot, it takes about 30 seconds to appear, and then about 10 seconds later, a second instance of it appears. After that, Thunar appears instantly every time I start it during that same session. But if I shut-down or restart my PC, Thunar again takes about 30 seconds to start up, and a second instance of it appears about 10 seconds later.
Google searches seem to indicate that people running other distros are also experiencing this problem. On advice in a different forum, I deleted the ~/.config/Thunar folder and restarted my PC, but that didn't help -- it created a new Thunar folder, but the long delay and the double-Thunars are still there every time I run Thunar for the first time in a session.
Another thing that's always worked before but now I'm struggling with in Jessie, if I open a smb:// url it just says "Not supported", is it possible to add support in Thunar? Some googling says to install gvfs but it is already installed, gvfs-open just says "command not found" though.
Strange thing is that I have tons of those little problems that seem to be regression since Wheezy but somehow I'm the only one hit heh. I actually think all the problems are caused by choosing "XFCE" on the installer because I can reproduce them 100% on any PC as long as I install XFCE, it's better to install entirely default (Gnome) and add xfce afterwards is my theory but I don't feel like reinstalling the whole system again.
I have been running Ubuntu with no problems for a while now. Earlier today, I began to download some updates. When I came back to the computer, there was a prompt to restart, but also an error message. I didn't catch the error message until I had clicked the restart button. Now, when I try to access Ubuntu from the dual-boot menu (I run Vista as well), I keep getting the following error message.
[3.190034] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unkown-block (8,2).I tried safe mode, and I got the same error message. Vista runs normally.
I just installed Nautilus Elementary and Gloobus Preview, and am having a problem with Gloobus Preview. At first, when I pressed the gear icon, the menu would come down. Then, I changed toggled the preferences so that Gloobus Preview would quit when it lost focus, and so that it would always be on top. Now, whenever I click the gear, Gloobus Preview shuts down. I ran it from the terminal, and nothing abnormal happens when it quits from a gear press. Could it be something about the close button position being goofed up? I don't think so, because the expand picture button also makes it quit. It's weird, though, because the open in application button on Gloobus Preview doesn't "crash" it. It opens up in the Image Viewer. I tried modifying the preferences in /usr/bin, but that didn't do anything. Purging and reinstalling also does nothing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to FC14 (64) from FC13 (32) and the mouse middle button (simultaneous left+right button) paste function has stopped working. I tested it with 3 makes/models of different mice and trackballs. For some reason (left+right) mouse returns the same code as the single right-button ('xev' value = 3). This worked in all previous FC and RH distros I've used in the past. Did a default setting get zonked somewhere? System: Toshiba laptop w/ USB mouse.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Slackware Linux 13.1 , and my Wireless is down. I've only installed 3 Linux disto's on my main laptop (Ubuntu 9.10 , 10.04 , and Crunchbang Linux 9.04 , just had Crunchbang), and they all had the same problem. In all three , I was able to enable Windows Wireless drivers and every thing worked. Now , I'm assuming I have to the same ting in Slackware? Sorry , but I have no idea what my wireless card is. But I know that my laptop is a Dell Insprion E1705. One last thing , I did ifconfig and that wlan0 is my Wi-Fi interface. I typed ifconfig wlan0 up to see if that was the problem. After I did that , I got and error message. Then I typed ifconfig wlan0 down to see if it was down and it made wlan0 down. I tried bringing it up again , but I got an error saying it couldn't find the device specified. Also , how do I install XFCE? I really don't like KDE for some reason and would like to install XFCE. I chose XFCE over GNOME (my favorite) because I want to try something new.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was over in the Desktop forum yesterday and apparently 'event sounds' are available for Xfce and are part of the original package, but I've never seen them made available, that is, the switch to turn them on isn't where it is suppose to be, in any Slackware specific package of Xfce.I've used 4.61 that came with Slackware64 13.1, 4.61 from the Salix depository, 4.62 from Mr. Workman, 4.62 from 'current' and recently 4.8 from Mr. Workman. None of these make the 'event sounds' available.
View 3 Replies View Relatedjust want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.

i got a razer diamondback 3G and button 1,2,3+weel up/down works.. but the button 4 (previous) not.
instead the button 5 (next) do previous, and button 4 don't work.
i tried modify xorg.conf but do nothing..
I have a MX 518 which as 5 additional buttons, I'm trying to bind the thumb button to Control or Shift. I'm fighting against it since yesterday, I tried many things : easystroke, imwheel, xbindkeys/xvkbd. I'm a bit new to Linux so I can still miss something very important. I read a tutorial about that mouse, all went well but it isn't explained how to set up what I wish.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs I'd like to be able to fully control my desktop with both my keyboard and my mouse, I wrote a .xbindkeysrc.scm script to make two of my eight mouse buttons work as modifiers. For instance, b:9 + wheel now changes volume.
Only problem is, I accomplish this by emulating a key press with a modifier held, and the modifier seems to stick randomly after the mouse buttons have been released.
I would be very happy if anyone could point out the errors in the script below (or with the software used, I don't know how reliable xvkbd is).
Code:
(define (display-n str)
"Display a string then newline"
(display str)
[Code].....
The first part declares some base functions for the keystrokes to be sent with xvkbd. Also, the function to reset the bindings on relesae of the modifier is here. (As you may see, I already tried to put in some code to specifically reset the modifiers, with no results.) The second part contains the default bindings for buttons 10-12 when no modifier is held. The third and fourth part specify the actions when modifiers are held, usually to send a keystroke or to run a command. The fifth part performs the bindings for the first, second and third level.
The mouse buttons on my machine are frustratingly loud, unreliable and hard to press down. (the touchpad thingy that *moves* the mouse works great though)
I would like to map a certain (unused) keyboard key I have, to do the job that the left mouse button does (i.e. the opposite of what tons of mouse-keyboard mapping programs do).
I'm open for suggestions on how to accomplish this, but I would prefer using xmodmap, possibly in conjunction with xdotool. Thus, I need someway to map events as follows: (button1=leftmouse; keycode123=keyboard key alternative)
KeyPress 123 ---> ButtonPress Button 1
Keyrelease 123 ---> ButtonRelease Button 1
Compiz is also a great way to map stuff to xdotool commands, but it doesn't handle separate KeyDown/KeyUp event.
I have a 5 button mouse and the 4th and 5th buttons are useful for skipping back or forwards while surfing with Firefox. It would be nice if I could skip back in Nautilus too, but it doesn't work. (Alt+LeftArrow & Alt+RightArrow as keybord equivalent) Is there a possibility to use this buttons in Nautilus too?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Fedora 13 (x86_64) just two or three days ago, and installed it in VMWare Workstation. The problem that I am having is that the OS will randomly think that I am holding down the left mouse button, which I am clearly not. I only installed the base system (development pack), and did not add any of ther other repositories. I would really like to be able to use Fedora 13, and not just have it sitting there on my HDD, and also use it as a server operating system (because of the configuration tools)
