General :: Having A Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter But Can't Get On The Internet With It
Mar 11, 2010I have a Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter but I cant get on the internet with it.The laptop is running Damn Small Linux.Heres what is going on and the code I typed:
ndiswrapper -i rt73.INF
ndiswrapper -l
modprobe ndiswrapper
iwconfig
ndiswrapper says the driver and hardware are present but iwconfig and ifconfig don't say anything.The wireless adapter works fine in windows 2000 and windows xp with the same driver.The green LED on the wireless adapter never flashes like it is supposed to.
General :: Belkin USB Wireless Functions Well In Jackalope But Fails To Connect?
Jun 12, 2010I'm pretty new to Linux, but have had a bit of functional tutoring. i'm triple booting my old Dimension 8400. Have been running with Jackalope and XP for some time now and wanted to install Lynx and get a good handle on it before i completely wipe my other machine (Win7/Jackalope) and install it there.
Installed Lynx from a USB stick and all seems well, it recognises the UBS wireless and all available connections but just sits and spins on the password login and never connects...hmmm. I have tried all possible combinations of rebooting with the USB connected/disconnected/connecting after... to no avail.
The wireless seems to "work out of the box" just as seamlessly as it did for Jackalope, all the steps are similar, it just never connects.

Ubuntu Networking :: Belkin Wireless N USB Found But Won't Connect
May 4, 2010I have been trying to get my Belkin FD8233-4v3 wireless-n usb adapter to work in Ubuntu since 8.04. It has worked with ndiswrapper under 32-bit (never the 64-bit) versions in the past, but has never been able to be configured directly. It uses the Ralink RT2870 chipset, but cannot seem to be configured using the drivers from the Ralink website.
With Ubuntu 10.04 64-Bit, everything has changed. I have high hopes that this adapter may finally work correctly and without ndiswrapper. As soon as I first booted 10.04, for the first time ever, Ubuntu recognized the IF automatically, reported my wireless router, allowed me to enter my 128-bit WEP hex code and tried to connect up. It is failing miserably, but it is making a valiant effort.

Jun 15, 2010I was dual booting with XP and Jackalope using a Belkin N wireless USB. The install on Jackalope was simple, a plug and play type situation, plugged it in and it worked. A few days ago though, i wiped the whole computer and installed Lynx. To my dismay, even though Lynx sees the wireless, sees the available signals, lets me input my password... it fails to connect. It just spins and spins and eventually asks for my password again...
I'm still pretty new to Ubuntu, and Linux in general. I updated, and pretty sure i retrieved 3rd party drivers for the video card properly (using a cable connection), but thats pretty close to where my "expertise" ends.
Ubuntu Networking :: Belkin N300 Keeps Asking For Wireless Password And Doesn't Connect?
Mar 9, 2011I've just literally gone out this morning and bought the Belkin N300 Dual Band USB for my Deskstation running Maverick Meerkat. At first i put the stick in and nothing happened. So i went to System>admin>Windows wireless drivers and clicked on there. I put the CD in the drive that came with the dongle and found the drivers folder on the disk. I then installed the .inf file in the XP folder. It connected straight away as easy as that.
I'm really frustrated though as it loses conectivity and then asks me for my WAP password on connection, but then doesn't seem to connect. I unplug the dongle and then hit connect again and it connects.
If i use the same dongle on XP i have no problems what so ever, so i know its not a signal strength issue.

Jan 2, 2011I am a LINUX newbie using Ubuntu. I love it so far but I am having issues. I cannot connect to the wireless network that I am using with my other Windows PC. The problem in my opinion is that the wireless device I use isn't operating. No light comes on the device. I am not sure how to "find hardware" with Ubuntu.

Apr 8, 2011I have a dual boot laptop. It has both Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 running on the same machine. Windows can connect to the wireless flawlessly, however, Ubuntu seems to be so fuzzy. The first time, it can connect to the wireless internet in the dormitory. The succeeding days, the network icon just keeps on turning as if it's trying to connect. What's wrong? Is it because of the drivers? If that's the case, then why are there times when I can connect to the wireless internet?

Dec 24, 2010I would like some help setting up using a wireless connection. I can connect using wired connection, and I have no trouble browsing. I have a strong wireless connection as well; however, when I try to browse I get a server not found error. I did download the necessary drivers. Before that, I didn't have a wireless connection. I was able to connect on this pc before the install, and all other devices still connect using wireless. I have a linksys router.
The one thing that stands out at me is the ip address that it says the wireless connection is using. It says it is 10.42.43.1
I feel like that might be problematic because I'm pretty sure my router only accepts connections with values that are between 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.200.

May 25, 2010I have recently installed Ubuntu lucid lynx and at my old house I had a regular cable modem (no wifi) and never used wireless internet. I would simply unplug the ethernet from the windows desktop plug it to my laptop and I was good 2 go.have recently moved and my roommate has a cable modem w/ wifi capabilities. When I plug in I am told that I am connected but......Nothing. dont know if the problem is due to the modem having wireless capabilities when my old one did not or the fact that my roommate has a win7 laptop that is connected via wifi etc. There have been a FEW times that I have walked out plugged in and everything has ran well. when I do plug in I look under connection information and I am told that I am connected at 100Mbps but whenever I try to visit a page I am out of luck. I define newbie (as far as Linux distros) and I have tried everything including going to work w/no sleep because I'm going through massive trial & errors

When I open network settings in YAST my wired (ethernet) card shows up but not the USB. If I manually add a wireless card, I can't select the kernel module from the drop down list - there is nothing in it. At that point I abort YAST. So, how do I convince YAST that there really is a USB wireless adapter connected?

The laptop uses a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN that works with Windows XP. I can bring the laptop up on Ubuntu 10.10 netbook using a USB flash drive. It is already set to wpa2 and aes. There is no option for ccmp; so, I can't select that. I don't have tkip selected, and the is no field labeled psk, but I am guessing that the field I entered the password in is the same thing.

Background info: I've installed SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 on my Sony Vaio Laptop (VGN-NW15G) with no major issues, after a bit of mucking around, i got the LAN to Connect to the internet, after some more mucking around, i figured out how to get the WLAN to connect to the internet.MY Goal: To be able to Wirelessly Network my Laptop with My PC.so that i can access the files on the PC, From my laptop, and Vice Versa, but the important thing is to first be able to access the PC files from the Laptop.
NOTE: My PC has 4 Hard Drives (1 for the O/s, 3 Backups) they are all configured and Shared correctly for Networking and Wireless networking, and all the permissions are set correctly.Hardware and Software Environments:My Laptop : Sony Vaio VGN-NW15GOperating System : SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11Wireless Capable, and has no issues Wireless Networking when running of a Hard Drive Loaded with Win 7 Ultimate 32bit, Therefore all Hardware is Compatible
