I have an HP Mini 311 laptop with Windows XP. I would like to run Ubuntu on it but I can't get the wireless network to work. The laptop uses a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN that works with Windows XP. I can bring the laptop up on Ubuntu 10.10 netbook using a USB flash drive. Before I try to install it on the hard drive I am using the "Try UBUNTU first". Everything seems to work except the wireless. I can only connect to the internet through an ethernet cable.How do I go about getting the wireless to work?
I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.

I was able to connect on this pc before the install, and all other devices still connect using wireless. I have a linksys router. The one thing that stands out at me is the ip address that it says the wireless connection is using. It says it is 10.42.43.1 I feel like that might be problematic because I'm pretty sure my router only accepts connections with values that are between 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.200.

It is already set to wpa2 and aes. There is no option for ccmp; so, I can't select that. I don't have tkip selected, and the is no field labeled psk, but I am guessing that the field I entered the password in is the same thing.
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and everything was ok util I was going to connect to internet. I just cant't find any way to connect to any wireless networks. I'm living in a board school so wireless is my only way to connect to internet. I have a Dell latitude e5500 and I can without any problem connect to internet on windows that I also have installed.
1. How were you trying to get online? ethernet cable from cable modem OR wireless with wireless router. I get the greyed out disconnected for each in the network manager

I bought a new Eee PC yesterday ripped off Windows and stuck Ubuntu 10.04 on (which is great by the way). It's all working fine except for the wireless I think I have: RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe. I've installed ndiswrapper and installed the drivers and I can connect to my wireless but I get no internet. It works fine on my windows box or when I plug the cable in. I've looked around and been fiddling with it for hours and no joy, it all seems to be installed correctly its just not working!
I am very new to Ubuntu. I installed lucid lynx on my HP DV6000 series laptop today. I'm dual booting with win 7 and Ubuntu 10.04. I cannot connect to the internet via wireless or wired connections. so after having my Ubuntu 9.04 get all messed up (my fault) really and being to lazy to figure out how to fix my screw-up and figuring I didn't have anything worth saveing that couldn't be easily backed up, I installed karmic on my Lenovo 3000 N100. The problem is that I can't connect to wireless internet which isn't really a problem since I had the same problem when I installed Karmic on my friend's computer, all I need to do is change the file in /etc/modprobe titled blacklist-ath_pci.conf, the only problem is when I open the file with Gedit and change the line to #blacklist ath_pci (to disable the blacklisting) I can't save it, if I try to quit then save as and replace the file I am told "you do not have permission to save the file. please check the location and try again"
I know I'm in an admin user account and the preferences for the account are all enabled so have the authority to change the file, if I remember correctly to edit system files you have to go about it a different way then just opening them up and editing them, but it's been so long I just can't remember.
My friend installed ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop for me, and connected me to his wireless internet. When I needed to restart, the wireless wouldn't connect a second time.
When I took my laptop home, I connected to my wireless fine. But again, when I tried to connect the second time it refused to connect.
I am currently connected to an ethernet cable, but I dont always have access to the wired internet.
I use the icon in the top right to try to connect but there does not seem to be a utility that searches for connections, or if there is it is not doing anything. Instead it seems that I need to set up the connection manually. I put in the SSID from the router, though I was never asked for this info in windows, but it wants my MAC address, which I can't find on the router. It also doesn't automatically ask for my wireless key which seems very strange; it only asks for it if I select WPA2 from a drop down menu.
The ubuntu official guide on this told be to go into hardware drivers and enable proprietary drivers. There's no such thing but there is "additional drivers" and when I go into this it says there aren't any.
As an aside I've had a funny experienc with Ubuntu. I installed it on my laptop and thought it was great. Everything worked fine, connecting to the internet seemed to happen almost instantly just by putting in the wireless key, and I was thoroughly impressed. However, since I've installed 10.10 on my desktop through Wubi I've had nothing but problems. I can't even play media from my external hard drive.

I have a LG X140 G.BG12P1. This netbook has a factory installed Windows 7 Starter Edition, which is working without any problems or issues. I recently installed on a free partition the Ubuntu Netbook 10.10, and I'm really upset because of the wireless issues I'm having here. If I use the Ethernet wired connection, I don't have any problems. In Windows 7, I don't have any problems either on Ethernet and on Wireless card. But when I try to use Ubuntu with the wireless card, I'm having very slow access to web pages, and sometimes they simply refuse to appear. I can open my DIR-655 router web pages without any problems. It appears to be a DNS related problem, because when I try to opne web pages using their IP (like [url]) I don`t have this issue. I modified my resolv.conf file to inlude my ISP DNS, but didn't work.

i can't connect to the internet using my wireless card i see the network that I want to connect to but when I try connect it gives me message saying that i am disconnected.

I have a dual boot laptop. It has both Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 running on the same machine. Windows can connect to the wireless flawlessly, however, Ubuntu seems to be so fuzzy. The first time, it can connect to the wireless internet in the dormitory. The succeeding days, the network icon just keeps on turning as if it's trying to connect. What's wrong? Is it because of the drivers? If that's the case, then why are there times when I can connect to the wireless internet?

I installed ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop a few days ago and love the OS so far. However, initially i could only get internet connection though an ethernet cord. After much internet searching, i finally figured out how to get wireless internet. Unfortunately, in setting up wireless internet, I no longer have wired internet. I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit on my HP Touchsmart TX2 1020us which has a Broadcom 4322 chip. At first my computer didn't seem to see the card at all, but then I typed the command (sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source) and then restarted the computer and now I'm connected to the network, but cannot connect to the internet so how do I figure this out. Like I said I have very little experience with linux at all so please don't make your answers too complicated.
i just installed the 10.0.4 version. My problem is that I cant connect to the internet. When I add a new wireless connection, it says that its connected but i cant ping the router or connect to any websites. It keeps auto assigning me with a 10.42.43.1 ip which doesn't make any since because my router's is nowhere close to that.
i cannot connect to the web with the above services. Even when it says "connection established" it still would not work. there is always a lock next to the server name.
I've just installed Ubuntu. My house isn't wired so I use wireless on all my machines to connect to the internet. When I start up Ubuntu, I can connect to my wireless router. After about 3 minutes, I get disconnected. It refuses to reconnect for several minutes. If I disable and reenable networking, I can establish a connection again, but the process is repeated. I'm not really sure what the issue is here. Any guesses? This is a desktop and I'm using a Belkin wireless adapter.
