View 6 RepliesI've recently installed openSUSE 11.4 (64 bit) on my system and am experiencing severe performance issues with websites using https (any site using https). Page loads over https take anywhere between 30 seconds to 2 minutes. It's the same issue posted here Secure sites load slow or not at all -- there was no confirmed solution.
- My router/hardware configuration has not changed in a long time and I've run Ubuntu, Arch Linux, and Windows XP on the same machine within the last year and have not had any issues.
- I also have a laptop running Arch Linux (kernel 2.6.38) and this problem does not occur using Firefox 4 or Chrome. To add to the madness this problem occurs while running Firefox 4 inside a Windows 7 guest via virtual box, but NOT while running IE 8 inside the same guest.
- This issue occurs using Firefox 4, Chromium, Opera, Konqueror, and Arora.
- I've disabled ipv6 in Firefox via about:config.
- I've disabled ipv6 in yast and have attempted to use both the "ifup" and "networkmanager" options.
- I am not using a proxy server.
- I've attempted the fix posted in the Ubuntu forums for a similar problem [ubuntu] [SOLVED] Banking Site is very slow.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've installed 10.10 yesterday on my old HP Pavillion ze2000 as dual boot with windowsXP and the wireless was working normally, I've updated everything it asked to update, rebooted a few times due to some of the updates. Today when I turned it on it was connecting normally to the router, though when I opened mozilla or tried to ping the router IP on the network tools neither have worked. Couldn't open any site on mozilla or ping any ip although it says I'm connected to my wireless router as it would normally. When I open into the XP my firefox there works just fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe server I'm running is virtually stock CentOS - it's running on a xen virtual host, started as CentOS 5.1 (32 bit) when that was fresh, it's at 5.5 now and updated nightly. All packages except postgresql and php are from CentOS and EPEL.
I'm running dovecot on it, and for long time, squirrelmail connecting via localhost was good enough. All external ports were firewalled by the CentOS firewall (just 25,80,443,custom ssh are currently open).
Now I need to allow an external imap client to connect.
I have generated ssl key and configured the dovecot configuration and it should be good to go, but gosh dangit, I can't remember how to open the port in the configuration.
I did it before when I set up ssh to run on a non standard port after I got sick of constant brute force attack on port 22, but I can't recall what I did and the various tutorials I find online all tell how to do it with the GUI tool, but I don't have any GUI stuff installed.

Is I'm pretty sure what I used to open up my custom > 1024 ssh port, but I can't remember how I used it to open that port and it doesn't seem intuitive. Also, do I need to use 993? I'd almost rather use something custom above 1024, as long as thunderbird supports it (don't care about any other mail client)
Finally, my smtp server is postfix and port 25 is already open (but not an open relay, I check it about every 3 months). For requests to send mail from a client, I would really like some authentication of some type - as in only relays for IP addresses that have recently successfully logged in the secure imap port.
In the past week or so I've noticed some weird network behaviour. I find accessing some sites such as Amazon, Paypal, and Bigstockphoto really slow. Sometimes the page will not load at all. Other sites are fine. The problem sites are not a problem for others on my LAN at home. When I try to open the problem sites, I can see in Firestarter blocked connections coming from 2.1(8/9).xxx.xxx on various ports such as 36007. This only happens for the problem sites. I'm an Oracle DBA and started working for my current employer about 4 months ago. This past weekend an alert re: FS space brought my attention to /var/spool/clientmqueue (full of mail re: cron jobs) and the fact that sendmail is not running on our Linux servers.I'm told that the IT security team deemed sendmail too vulnerable so we don't run it.Aside from FS filling up and missing notification of issues with crontab entries, I'm concerned that we may be missing notification of potential issues. In other Unix/Linux environments I've seen emails from the print daemon when it experienced problems with specific jobs.
Are there other Linux facilities aside from cron and lpd that use email to advise the users of possible issues? Are there ways to secure sendmail or secure alternatives to sendmail? My primary need/desire is to make sure that emails regarding issues on the server get to the appropriate users. Secondary goal would be to have the ability to use mailx to send mail out. There is No need/desire to receive mail from outside.
My wireless is working well enough for me to post this, but does go down from time to time (still troubleshooting the cause.. may be a Cisco Anyconnect VPN client, or Amarok). From time to time the connection will just drop out, and I will have to reboot to get it to reconnect. In these times, dhcpcd eth1 ends up timing out, and if I look at the networkmanager log, that also shows a timeout. wllist scan will show the nearby APs, though, and iwlist will show the card as "connected" to an ap (ssid and all), but no pings will work and dhcpcd will continue to say it times out.Anyhow, I noticed that most of the time when I do a scan in Knetworkmanager, the attached screen appears - I am concerned, because I know that these are open APs, and also that it is showing quite a few too many. If I completely wipe Knetworkmanager and reinstall, are there any gotchas that might be worth knowing about?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI dual boot XP and FC14 and have 2 routers. I can connect and ping one of these routers when I'm in FC and I have an IP address I just can't load any websites. When I connect to the other router (my main router) it works fine. When I boot into XP and connect to the problem router I can load pages fine. It's only when I'm on FC14 and connect to the problem router that I can't load pages even though I have an IP and can ping around.

(1)Sometimes you get address ending with .mp3 so just copy the whole URI and use in terminal wget "PasteWhatYouCopied"
(2)But in the link I have mentioned there is no mp3 link in address bar.
Here I found out in totem-plugin-viewer(that is the thing that plays your file in browser).Just Click the button next to sound and select copy

And use just like before wget "PasteWhatYouCopied" -O output.wma
Also notice that you have the song as output.wma in current folder of terminal.
(3)If there is a video on webpage then either wait for it to get completely downloaded & get it from /tmp.Remember don't close the page till video gets downloaded completely & you copied it from /tmp then only close that tab.
(4)There is a firefox addon 'unplug' which can help for flv because after sending file to download via unplug you can close that tab.

How to do this
wget -r --level=inf (or some other variant) will mirror the site.
wget -r -H --level=1 will get all the links (from all domains) to the first level.
Anyone have any ideas on how I could combine these, to get the entire of the main site and one level deep into external sites. I've been banging my head against the manual all afternoon.
