General :: Cannot Get Mail - Connection To Server Failed
Apr 29, 2011
My Phone keeps reporting
Cannot Get Mail
The connection to the server failed
My phone does seem to show (all?) the contents of my home directory so must have received some data but no actual mail.
In debug.txt, this keeps repeating over and over:
Found 0 message changes
Initializing message diff engine
1 messages in state
And in /var/log/maillog, this does:
Killed (lost mailbox lock)
There are no other imap connections running.

I was working recently on a perl program on our ftp server (box is running SuSE, I belive v9.3) designed to email a warning if the mountpoint to our backup machine could not be mounted. A couple of other programs, month-end critical, took me away from that for a while. I got back to it today, only to discover that I cannot even send the messages anymore (before, I could send, but I was having trouble interpreting the results I was sending).
The program is using MIME::Lite for its mailsending function. The actual error message I am receiving is
Code: Failed to connect to mail server: Invalid argument at ./organize_bks_2 line 174
The line in question is the actual $msg->send command.
I have good reason to believe that the environment for this has changed; during the time I was working on other projects, our office phone setup was replaced and refined with an ethernet-connected setup installed by the company that provides our mailing services (and presumably network services in general, although I do not know this for a fact). I know that we were having email troubles with some of our month-end scripts after that, which required our main server's DNS values to be changed...but those errors were not the same as the one I am getting on this machine.
Is this simply going to be as easy as changing the DNS settings on our FTP box, and if not, where is the best place to start digging for more information?

I finally managed to install lubuntu onto this old laptop, and I noticed it came with "Sylpheed mail client" integrated into lubuntu-desktop. I entered in my name, username, and password, and pop3.live.com for the incoming mail (pop3 server), and smtp.live.com for the outgoing mail (smtp server), but whenever I attempt to get mail for my windows live email account the connection fails. How do I make it not-fail?
vsftpd not working on my CentOS system. I tried logging in using FileZilla but the error message was: Connection attempt failed with "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server".
After searching the forum I could not find a clear answer to my question so I am giving it a try...
I have installed a LAMP server with Postfix as mail server. The scripts send email as user www-data using the mail server on the same machine.
However, the email got rejected by external mail servers (failed reverse DNS check) so I setup a mail server that meets all needed requirements.
Now I would like to use this second server instead of the mail server on the LAMP server. I found that this could be done with changing sendmail settings in php.ini (I think).
However I am not sure how that will go: www-data is no actual user on the new email server (which requires authentication before sending). Do I need to create a new user on the email server or change the settings in php.ini to match an existing user?
I have one server at home, connected through a router that gives me a static IP:192.168.1.2 - My PC192.168.1.3 - CentOS serverI enabled the port 80 into router forwarding system and I can connect properly to CentOS server, using the IP my internet provider gives me. My router automatically forwards a changed IP to my dyndns.com account so I can also access the server through a domain name (I pay to have it linked to one of my domains). My next step is to configure the mail server (dovecot) , so I can send emails from my local server(192.168.1.3).I was wondering if anyone has any tutorial links or tips to have the mail server configured through a home internet provider + home router.
I cannot receive mail from my POP server; I used the same settings as I previously did with Thunderbird but I keep recieving an error message "La lecture de salutations valides du serveur POP pop.videotron.ca a chou" (roughly: exchange with the POP server failed).I am able to connect to the Internet and to other mail accounts with Evolution.
554 Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation. If you believe that this failure is in error, please contact the intended recipient via alternate means.
I realized there are often weird yahoo connection on my mail server (SCALIX sendmail).
on ps aux | grep yahoo , i get a lot of connections such as these:
I get about a dozen of it, i think it is taking up my connection, anyone has any idea why how these connections appear? Is it because of my server's security loophole?
I am able to telnet to the server via a remote connection, but for some reason, it will not accept mail. ere is the bounce back email I am getting.Quote:This is the mail system at host smtp.mydomain.net.I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could notbe delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below. For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster. If you do so, please include this problem report. I have been trying to solve this problem for two days now looking at various forums and websites but can't really figure out what's going on here.I have setup postfix on my ubuntu and I can send emails using "telnet localhost 25" and the ehlo thingy. Apache can also send emails. My problem is with incoming emails. When I try to send an email (through Gmail) I get the following error message:
Code: Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed: root@example.com
I'm working on getting a Debian box up and running for training labs for Cisco, and would like VNC access to this Debian box. My main laptop is a MacBook Pro, and I have a Windows 10 desktop. What the problem is: Using the MBP's built-in VNC viewer, I receive a "Connection failed to "Server" Make sure Screen Sharing or Remote Management is enabled on the remote computer. using Chicken (of the VNC), I receive a "The server refused the connection".I'm using tightVNC as a server on the debian box. This is a fresh install of Debian.URL...
My server is suddenly getting giving the following error: Quote: Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to inenergy.dvrdns.org. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. * The page you are trying to view can not be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. * Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem. Alternatively, use the command found in the help menu to report this broken site. I had been trying to configure the server to do secure logins (before Christmas) , but I don't think I had completed the configuration and I'm not sure how to reset it so that I can start again.
I want to connect to my Linux debian server, via Remote desktop connection, but when I give IP of my server and click connect, it fail, it says can't connect to the remote computer and below 3 reason.
I have just upgraded my openSUSE installation from 11.0 to 11.1 which everything is working great. Kudos to the development team and all those involved! I really like 11.1. One problem I have encountered is I cannot get clusterssh working. It appears to install just fine but whenever I try to execute like I did in 11.0 I get the following error: Connection to server failed -- (version 11.0) No protocol specified at /usr/local/bin/cssh line 1883
I tried to find a version for 11.1, rpm version that is, but no luck. I even download the source from SourceForge and still nada, same error. Not sure what is going on and looking for some assistance cause I really need clusterssh or another means to connect to several other machines to conduct changes.
Im having some problem with my DNS. We are using a Linux web server as one of our web server which runs some live websites. When I trying to get the status of the DNS (NAMED) it comes the following error :
The same error appears when Im trying to apply any changes on zone level for a selected doamin in WEBMIN. (Basically can't apply changes)
WEBMIN > Servers > BIND DNS servers > click a selected-domain.co.uk > Apply changes
But the server seems to be running without effecting any probelms to the sites or users. I have been searching weeks for this problem & couldn't find a solution. And also Please note that Im bit new to Linux.
I have a problem with vsftpd (latest version available, 2.1.0pre3) SSL. I've configured it to a nonstandard port, 65440, disabled connect_from_port_20 and run it as a normal user, from home directory. I can't use the SSL feature, every time I connect, it only reaches the login process. After logging in, I get the following error (when data transfer would start for LIST command):
522 SSL connection failed; session reuse required My vsftpd.conf looks like this
# You may specify an explicit list of local users to chroot() to their home # directory. If chroot_local_user is YES, then this list becomes a list of # users to NOT chroot(). # chroot_list_enable=YES # (default follows) # chroot_list_file=/etc/vsftpd.chroot_list
I have set up a mail server and SASL and have it all working. I can send and receive mail though squirrel mail, receive from outlook, but cannot send from outlook. I am using this guide [URL]. I was even able to authenticate perfectly fine like they do be telneting to the server from root as they did. (Step 5). Now a little later in that step when they hook it up to outlook express is the problem. That doesn't work for me.
I get this error in outlook The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test' Server: 'mail.myserver.com' Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E Protocol: SMTP Port: 25 Secure(SSL): No Socket Error: 10060
Linux printing appeared to be working fine up until yesterday. Today typing lpq gives the following: lpq Printer 'sdst@other.domain' - cannot open connection - Connection timed out Make sure LPD server is running on the server
The /etc/cups/printers.conf file is properly set, the printers appear in localhost:631 and they are printing test pages. However, all command line print commands seem to be trying to print to sdst@other.domain I don't know why printers.conf is being ignored and why and how sdst@other.domain was added. Seems like it might have been auto-discovered?
# dit: sdst@other.domain was mentioned in /usr/local/etc/lpd.conf I'm not sure why lpd.conf is being used instead of /etc/cups/printers.conf
I recently bought an HP Mini Netbook which has a great feature called HP Quickmail.I was told this is a Linux front end which lets you get straight on to E-mails or the WEb without waiting for Windows 7 to boot. Every time I get a message "Sorry we are unable to check your Yahoo! Mail account now. Click here to check your Internet Settings" My settings are just fine and work perfectly with my main laptop.
I had claws mail 3.7.6 installed with mint 10 and all was well. I use gmail with ssl and was no problem. I wanted to download some add-ons for claws, but most were only compatible with version 3.7.8, so I downloaded and installed 3.7.8 only to find that it doesn't support ssl connection, so I can't use it for my gmail account.
I installed required updates on my linux installation (ubuntu 9.4) I am now unable to access my localhost, and get the following message from my browser: Failed to Connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost. Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection. I checked my hosts file which has the following information:
