Fedora Networking :: F11 Failed To Connect To VPN (pptp) / Resolve This?

Jun 11, 2009

I just installed F11 and can't make VPN connection to PPTP server using NetworkManager.
This is what I get:

** (nm-applet:8092): WARNING **: Error in getting active connection 'Vpn' property: (19) Method "Get" with signature "ss" on interface "org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" doesn't exist

** (nm-applet:8092): WARNING **: _nm_object_array_demarshal: couldn't create object for /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/3

I can connect to this server from Fedora 10 using identical settings.

VPNC tunnels work fine.

Fedora Networking :: Create A Vpn - Pptp - Using The Networkmanager - Failed ?

Sep 21, 2009

I thought configuring a vpn would be a piece of cake, but it seems I'm missing something.

I'm attempting to create a vpn (pptp) using the networkmanager (0.7.1). I enter the gateway (I assume thats the server I'm trying to connect to) and my login information. What is the NT Domain?

When I try to connect it only tells me after a while that it failed to do so. How can I find the information on what went wrong in the process?

Networking :: In PPTP Server - Limit Bandwidth Per User & No. Of Connection Per Account?

Apr 2, 2010

recently i rent a xen vps intended to setup a PPTPD vpn server for me and my friends. so we can by-pass the great firewall in china and get back on ....., facebook and stuff. i have already setup the server and i can connect to it without any problem. but i still want to do some further configuration the server:

1. i want to limit the bandwidth to 400k/s per connection.
2. i also want to limit the max connection per user a/c

i have some thoughts on the 2nd requirement. in the user configuration file of /etc/ppp/chap-secret, you can specify the range of ip the user can get, does it limit the max connection per user a/c? or they can connect anyway, just every now and then a box pop up says conflict in IP address?

Networking :: PPTP Client Fails To Connect To Microsoft ISA PPTP Server?

Sep 17, 2009

I'm trying to connect to a Microsoft ISA PPTP server from my Linux box. The box I'm connecting from is itself a router. I have no problem connecting a Windows XP machine to the VPN via this machine. This is fine, but I would rather connect via the Linux machine, giving me far more advanced routing options (i.e. no to send every packet from the XP box completely unnecessarily via the PPTP tunnel). The Linux router is running Debian Lenny.

I've checked iptables. There were initially some issues. I've fixed those.

Invoking pppd from the console, I can see that authentication succeeds, but then some negotiation goes wrong and the server terminates the connection. Here's the output from pppd, with the more sensitive stuff removed:

Code:
<hostname>:~# pppd call <peer> nodetach debug
using channel 19
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/2
sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0xe3e45f75> <pcomp> <accomp>]

Networking :: SSH To Fedora 14 Server Keyboard Response Jerky

Feb 25, 2011

Whenever I make an ssh connection to my Fedora 14 server, the echo of my keyboard strokes are very jerky. It will echo a few, then stop for a moment, then it echos all the keyboard entries from the time it stopped responding all at once. Anyone have any ideas on why this started happening? This happens from any computer I use to connect. It happens with Putty and SSH Secure Shell.

Networking :: Wlan0: Option 43 Has Zero Length, Failed To Parse Packet?

Apr 14, 2010

I have a thread started on the Slackware forum about the possibility of installing Slackware on an older P4 laptop. Well, it installed fine and most things are working, but I am experiencing one problem that I need to solve before I progress to working on other things.

I hope the mods will not consider this a double thread because it is a networking issue and the other thread was started about a different subject, and I thought there might be more networking specialists there (though everyone I meet on the Slack forum is very knowledgeable, this one has not been solved.)

I am trying to connect wireless with an RT2500 chipset, the correct module loads and the machine is connected to the network, but with a "failed" IP address (169.254.167.101). This also occurs with a wired connection. The exact error is:

Code:
err, wlan0: option 43 has zero length
failed to parse packet

It times out then assigns the failed IP address and connects to the network, but of course nothing works.

I use WPA psk and I have another laptop with the same configs and works perfectly with Slackware -current, so I followed the same routine to set this one up. When that didn't work, I backed up the existed /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 and wpa_supplicant.conf, and copied the working files to the new setup. Same result.

There does not seem to be any information about this error either here on LQ, or on the net. I have certainly never encountered it before.

Because it connects with good signal strength, and because it also occurs with wired connections, I can only assume that it is related to WPA in some way. I have not reset the router because I have a number of other machines connected. All of the other machines work, and this one connects, so it is not hardware related.

Server :: No Internet Traffic Through The PPTP VPN Connection?

Feb 21, 2011

everything works fine, clients can connect to the vpn server with no problems and they can ping local machines! but no internet access through the vpn connection unless i uncheck the default gateway option on my client machine which is not what i want. I want my clients to get my server's ip address. my server is behind a router (router's ip : 192.168.0.1 | server's local ip: 192.168.0.100) so i used localip 192.168.0.100 & remoteip 192.168.0.234-238 in pptpd.conf. it think there is something wrong with routing or firewall rules, because it seems that the DNS resolution works .. when i try to browse a website my browser says "Waiting for xxxxx.com..." and it stays on that stage forever ! the funny part is that google.com works fine (don't know how).

p.s :
* I have already opened the port in on my router. I even tried it locally to make sure that the router is not the problem here. * already added ms-dns 208.67.222.222 / ms-dns 208.67.220.220 to pptpd-options. (found another guide that suggested to do this, before adding these two lines even dns resolution was not working.)

Ubuntu Networking :: PPTP VPN Connection Stopped Working?

Oct 6, 2010

I managed to set up a PPTP VPN connection in Ubuntu 10.04, and it worked first time. This was about 3 months ago. It was working yesterday (Oct 05 2010), but when I came to log in to the VPN today it doesn't work. I tried the same VPN connection on my wife's laptop which runs Vista and it works. I have tried re-entering the details, even deleting and setting up from scratch via network manager. And yes I have the correct VPN plugins. what I should do. Is there a log file so I can have a look at it to see what the problem is. If there is where is it located. The computer is able to connect to the internet without any problems, just can't connect to the VPN. The only thing I can think of is that the update manager popped up this morning so a few things have got updated today. maybe something in there broke the VPN connection.

Fedora Networking :: Establishing A Vpn Connection Using Vpnc / Error Failed To Bind To 0.0.0.0:500: Address Already In Use?

Nov 24, 2010

I am having difficulties in establishing a vpn connection using vpnc (or NetworkManaager-vpnc).

As long as the openswan IPsec daemon is running, vpnc-helper quits with the error message

Quote:

Failed to bind to 0.0.0.0:500: Address already in use
[user@computer ...]# vpnc-helper --local--port 0

If I use NetworkManager-vpnc, then establishing the connection simply fails.
Using the --local-port 0 option does not change anything.

If I stop the ipsec service (service ipsec stop) then establishing the connectiong works, both with NetworkManager-vpnc and the console tool, but apparently the network traffic is not routed via the VPN - in my case this means that I cannot access hosts within the vpn and stuff.

Funny thing is - on my notebook from where I connect via WLAN, everything works fine. With Fedora 13 everything works fine, too.

Does anybody have an idea how to enforce that the vpn connection is actually used?
