General :: Best Way To Move All Data From 500GB To 1TB HDD?

Jul 27, 2010

I would like to know if there's a way to copy my 500GB HDD data onto a 1TB HDD. Is there a quick way to do this?? Or will I have to install CENTOS on the 1TB HDD and then move the data across? Reason for doing this is because I am running out of disk space.

Ubuntu :: Cannot Move Mysql Data Directory

Nov 6, 2010

Ubuntu 10.04. I've tried every method I can find and none work. Here's what I know...

1. My /etc/my.cnf is ignored. I can even delete it and phpmyadmin continues to work as it did before.

2. If I move /var/lib/mysql and replace it with a new directory (chowned to mysql:mysql so it looks like it's got the same ownership & permissions as the original) I get a write permission problem, e.g.

Quote:

What I ultimately want to do is used existing database files on a FAT32 partition but I can't even get to first base.

Fedora Installation :: Setup Dual Bood Data Partition And Move /home?

Feb 21, 2009

I have just spent dome time using gparted to sort out my partitions. I have a vista partition, a fedora one and a big chunk of unallocated space I wish to use as my data drive.

I want to move my ~ folder to the new partition and have windows/vista access the folder and write to the Documents, Downloads folders etc.

What is the best format to use?

Also I plan to start backing up my partitions to a server, for instance using g4l to save a linux image (maby a windose one too). Is there any benifit in keeping all the hidden files (ones starting with period '.') i.e moving the whole ~ folder or would I be best off leaving the ~ dir and moving the folders I know i use such as ~/Downloads, ~/Documents etc?

And how should i preform the move of all these files? 'mv'? do i need to add any special options?

Fedora Hardware :: Trying To Mount Drive - Create An Ext4 Partition To Move The Data

Jun 12, 2010

I just installed F13 x86_64 on a system that used to be running Windows 7.

The boot drive is a SATA drive attached to the motherboard which is working fine.

However, my data drive is an NTFS partition filling a 3.6TB SATA raid.

It's GPT--Gparted sees 3 unknown partitions, and gdisk shows:

Code:

How do I mount this in Fedora 13? I had intended to shrink the NTFS partition so that I can create an ext4 partition to move the data to. Will this be possible?

I've got a LOT of valuable data on this drive, and nothing else big enough to store it.

Ubuntu :: During Install Can Only See The 500gb HD And None Of The Other

Aug 12, 2010

I made a post about this issue a while back and it's still happening in 10.04 ubuntu, I have 4 disks 2x120gb 1x250gb and 1x500gb, during install I can only see the 500gb HD and none of the other, I get an LVM drive during install for 250gb but that's no good (see attachment)

Now if i run the install with "nodmraid" the raid goes away but it only sees the 500gb I can however see the other drives in GPartion but I cant install to it.

I get the exact same thing in fedora 13 however when I run the install with "nodmraid" I can see all the drives and install to it.

Fedora Installation :: Installing 11 Onto 4 500GB HDs?

Jul 8, 2009

I'm installing Fedora 11 onto 4 500GB HDs....and I want it to be a RD5.

What would be the best way to do this?

1 - software raid each 500GB into a RD5, then create a LVM boot/swap/and / partitions? Is it even possible to do this? And performance wise, is this ok?

2 - the first two 500GBs into a RD0 and load the OS onto this raid, create a RD0 onto the second two 500GB, then just use rsync to mirror the first RD0 onto the second RD0...which I know isn't REALLY a RAID, but will be more of a backup onto the second raid. This probably will show the best performance, but isn't a raid.

Because the /boot has to be on a mirror drive I think my options are pretty limited.

General :: Move Ssh Known_hosts File?

Oct 19, 2010

I was wondering if it's possible to move the known_hosts file from ~/.ssh/known_hosts to ~/somewhere/.ssh/known_hosts . I have a server running Plesk and the user home directories do not have write permissions (they do have write permissions within the subfolders, however).

I was able to move the authorized_keys file by editing sshd_config AuthorizedKeysFile , but when I try to log in without password, I'm still prompted every time if I want to add the host to list of known hosts, and it fails to save every time since it cannot write to known_hosts. Thus I am still unable to automate some processes. I'd like known_hosts to be located in the same location as my authorized_keys, which does have correct permissions for users.

General :: Move The Srv Directory To Another Partition?

Jun 28, 2010

When installing Ubuntu (10.04) I chose the /home to be installed in a separate partition.I would now like to move the /srv directory into the same partition. The problem I found is that Ubuntu did not make a /home directory inside the partition itself. It just places the account directories in the partition and mounts it to /home. So I cannot just easily move the /srv folder into the partition.

How can I:

Move those account directories into a home folder inside the partition Make that new home folder the default /home folder. ditto with the /srv folder, or any I choose in the future.

General :: Move A Folder From One Partition To Another?

Mar 12, 2010

Anyways, I recently got into the whole HTPC scene, and picked up an Acer Revo for my self, with a media center OS (XBMC) that was apparently modded from Ubuntu. Keep in mind that I can only use the terminal for any of this, as the GUI is just for video settings, etc.

So, XBMC just totally crashed on me, and the GUI stopped working. The files were still there, I just couldn't watch them. After many hours of tinkering, I decided to just reinstall XBMC, but make two partitions, and then move my movies and stuff to the new, working partition, and afterwards, delete the old, non working one.

I just don't know how to move from one partition to another.

So, can someone explain, in absolute layman terms, how to move my "Movies" folder from my first partition, to the New one?
