The company I work for, as usual, is Microsoft-centric. I'm attempting to integrate my Ubuntu server into the domain to allow domain users to authenticate to the server and access file shares using Samba. Here's my current configuration:

I am trying to access my ubuntu (11.04) partition (ext4) from windows 7. I have tried explore2fs but it works only with ext2 ad ext3 partitions. I have downloaded samba for sharing but as I suppose it doesn't work that way.

etc...
I want to get the unique domain list but sort and uniq does not help because there are multiple lines for same domain.
How to achieve this.
how you allow a domain user to access a smb share when the linux machine (RHEL) that the share is on is on the same subnet as the domain but not joined to it (it has the name of a DC for the domain configured in /etc/hosts.conf also)

I am trying to access shared folders in Virtual Box with Host OS being Windows7 and Guest OS is Fedora. Did anyone face a similar problem? I have been going through many solutions but none of them worked out. I am able to keep the required folders in Shared Folders making them Auto-Mount and Permanent. I tried to install Guest Additions from Devices, but I am not sure how to install the Guest-Additions software in Fedora. how to proceed so that I can access files in my shared folder.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI want to host 5 websites on my new virtual server so I have created 2 nameservers that point to my virtual server's IP addresses as a glue record. What confuses me is when I create a new domain on my server it gives the new domain it's own nameservers (ns1.thenewdomain.co.uk etc) do I need to change these records so they use the nameservers I created earlier? If I do? Which particular records should I change? I'm running a Unix virtual server with a Plesk control panel.

I am trying to use the network printers shared within my University's AD domain. In Windows XP, I simply went to 'run' and typed "\[domain]", then it asked for my ID and passwords and list of printers came up from which I could just pick and add to my printer list. How can this be achieved in Ubuntu 10.04?
What I tried:
System->Administration->printing->Add->Network Printer -> Windows printer via Samba -> Browse, then I see the domain but when I input my id, domain name and password, access is denied...
I have a question which it believe it is quite simple but I have no clue how to do it... I'm using Fedora 12 and I'm the only Linux machine in my office's LAN... I have Apache (httpd) setup and my co-workers can access the sites perfectly by using my IP address, for example [URL]... So here's the question, how do I setup a domain name so everyone in the LAN can access the sites by typing [URL]..
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed noip2 which installed fine. Except when I try connect to my noip domain it sends me to my router login page and won't let me access my ubuntu box. How can I set my noip domain so when I connect, it will allow me to access SSH, sabnzbd, etc., instead of forwarding me to the router login page. I'm sensing that I may have to set the ubuntu box to a static ip and forward the various ports of SSH, sabnzbd, etc to it. Would this be correct?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI already join the domain but I have the map drive is based on the user name in windows server 2003. I map the drive on the user by batch file like map_file.bat and its on the group policy as log in scripts. So how can the user when he use PC1 see his own map drives and when he go to PC2 he see the same map drives and when other user sit on his computer will see other map drives. Its already working on Winxp as client but I want it to be the same on ubuntu.
In other word, more description Mike using PC1 can see map drive MAPDrive1 and MAPDrive2 and when Mike want to use PC2 and automatically can see MAPDrive1 and MAPDrive2 or any other PC he use .. he can see the same MAP1 and MAP2 ins same time jack if he use PC1 can see map drive MAPDrive3 and MAPDrive4 and when jack use PC2 he again can see MAPDrive3 and MAPDrive4.
In other words, I somehow deleted the first partition of Windows7, the windows reserved system partition. WHat is the quickest way I can rescue this system? Client has been waiting for her machine a long time already, I have to delived today, no time to re-install windows7.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI pretty much know nothing at all about partitioning hard-drives and unspeakably less about linux as a whole. but i really want to get into it. (The HP Mini 311 is what i am using)
Okay so a couple of days ago (before i had ever heard of Ubuntu, or even thought i could ever use Linux based software). I had been Dual-Booting OSX Snow Leopard and Windows 7, while using Chameleon boot-loader, on my HP Mini 311. Even though my sound-card and network adapter do not work while running Snow Leopard.
I followed this guide for dualboot: [url]
So i heard about the new Linux Os Ubuntu, and after trying it for about 3min on a USB i was sold. So i began to make my HP a triple-boot now with OSX Snow Leo, Windows 7, and Ubuntu.
I did this by recreating the same dual-boot system as before, but this time saving room for Ubuntu to be installed to my hard drive, after SnowLeo and Win7.
I got this to work perfectly by creating a 4th partition for Ubuntu and a 5th for swap area.
Here is where my problem lies... I saw this tutorial for dual-booting Win7 and Ubuntu, while making another partition so that windows and ubuntu can share the same files.
Here:[url]
Once i tried doing this on my triple-boot(adding ubuntu partition, swap partition, and a "storage" partition, on top of the 3 partitions i created during dual-boot setup) My Windows 7 stopped booting. I read somewhere that hdds can only have like 3 primary partitions, which is the only kind of partition i know how to use. so i was thinking maybe i could put this storage partition in another mount location, such as /home or /usr, because i think the added partitions is what messed up my Windows 7 boot. My only problem is i have no idea what different mount positions are used for, nor how to use them properly.
A friend backed up an in accessible Windows 7 partition to a big (close to 1TB) external USB drive using KNOPIX. Unfortunately the umlauts and accents in the file names of his extensive music collection now appear garbled (UTF8 vs ISO xxx, I guess) when he accesses that drive from Windows. My guess is he needs to mount the two drives in a 'special way,' that takes the diacritics translation into account, on KNOPIX? Or do you have another idea what went wrong? This is the second part of a windows/linux problem I'm having. See how-does-one-mount-a-partition-in-windows-7 for the other part

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a red hat system that I currently have two websites hosted on. Im trying to set up a third domainname but every time I touch the files (httpd.conf, hosts, ddclient.conf, VirtualHosts, etc) it resolves to the primary domain name. The third domain keeps pulling up my first domain instead of resolving to its domain name. Any Ideas? I go through DynDns with custom domains. The first two have been working for years, but whenever I try to set up the third one exactly like the other two using the thirds info, it will not resolve to that third domain?????

I have installed ntfs-3g by yum install fuse fuse-ntfs-3g recommended from :[url]
I have mount it to my window ntfs system and setup
Now I am able to access window ntfs system.
HOWEVER, I could not access to USB NTFS system. May I know why?
It gave me: The volumn "Expansion Drive" uses the ntfs file system which is not supported by your system
The USB drive is FreeAgent (500G). I have partitioned it to 3 parts. 1 part is ntfs. The other two is ext3. I can access ext3 smoothly.
We have a system with 1 GB memory. Out of this, i would like to restrict only 512MB for linux and would like to access the rest 512MB directly from an application that runs on linux.
What is the suggested means to achieve this on 2.6.x?
I am working on RHEL4 AS. I have created a user and tried to access, but the system is showing the error messsage as "system administrator has disabled access to the system temporarily". I could login through root. Before this I have changed the root/.gnome2/panel2.d folder permissions for group and others as read only to prevent other users to delete or add icons on the panel bar.
