I updated yesterday and now the fonts in my application (PokerStars) look bad (grainy). why this might be and what can be done to fix it? I reapplied "winetricks allfonts" but that didn't help.
View 6 RepliesI am using wine for a couple of programs, such as spotify and winscp. These used to work great, untill the latest wine update last week. Suddenly, the fonts are scrambled and all wine programs became unusable. I tried to reinstall my programs and to reinstall wine, but to no avail.

My installed wine version is 1.2.0-1.fc12 on Fedora Core 12.
I'm kinda new to configuring wine in fedora. My issue is, after I upgraded to fedora 13 and after upgrading wine, my wine configuration gui and all the gui's of all *.exe applications that I was using started having abnormally large gui's with equally large buttons and small fonts. I have attached a screenshot of the wine config GUI as it appears on my screen. My current screen resolution is 1280X1024 and I'm using an integrated ATI chip (ATI Radeon x200 express) with the mesa-dri drivers for display.
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday Software Update on Fedora 13 listed updates for OpenJDK, SSH protocol, and SE Linux policy configuration. When I clicked on the Install button I was presented with a list of nearly a hundred fonts that Software Update said were required. They were all fonts that I have removed from my computer over and over - fonts for languages that I do not speak and don't want on my computer.
I unchecked the fonts, but Software Update said it could not continue without installing them. Apparently they are dependencies of one or more of the three packages I mentioned above. Is there a way to figure out what package is constantly installing these fonts?
I note that after deleting the fonts I never have any problem with apps failing to run. And if I go to a web page created with a language that requires a particular type of font, Firefox still displays the page with the correct font for that language, even after removing the fonts from my computer. Are they really required?
I installed Wine on my machine just a few minutes ago and as part of the installation the following packages are also installed: ttf-liberation,
ttf-mscorefonts-installer, ttf-symbol-replacement, ttf-tahoma-replacement. These add extra fonts to the system which I'm assuming are required by windows programs running inside Wine. The problem is though that Firefox also seems to be using these fonts because the fonts now look different inside Firefox. Not a huge difference, but you can tell they are different and they just don't look "right" to the eye. They are no longer as pleasing as they were when Firefox was using the default Ubuntu fonts.
Is there a way to keep these fonts for use by Wine, but not allow any other program on Ubuntu to use them?
Together with Wine some extra fonts were installed (Verdana, etc). Now this fonts are used by firefox to display some websites, and it looks uglier. I'd like to forbid firefox to use this fonts. Is it possible?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Debian 8.2 KDE 64bit, installed wine, and found that a 32-bit Windows program (Agent newsreader) could not see the linux system fonts. (This worked fine on Kubuntu 14.04)
Since this is the first time that I've installed Debian, I'm not sure if I'm missing something obvious or if this is an actual bug.
Steps to reproduce:
Fresh install of Debian 8.2 KDE 64bit.
apt-get install wine
wine wordpad # this is a small word-processor for wine that is supplied with wine
menu -> format -> font
all linux fonts are visible -- so far so good
Because I want to use a 32bit program, I now have to do this, I understand:
dpkg --add-architecture i386
apt-get update
apt-get install wine-bin:i386
But after that,if I run "wine wordpad" and look at the fonts, all the linux system fonts are gone. The only fonts visible are the nine that are built into wine (Courier, Fixedsys, Marlett etc..) So installing the i386 wine support seems to have broken something.
I noticed that the fonts for Office 2007 look shabby. I am not taking about anti-aliasing or subpixel hinting; but the general appearance of the applications in not even close to what I am used to in Windows. I'll show what I mean through some screen shots below. The text for different options in the ribbon looks awful. Compare this with windows and the text is clearly legible.
Same goes for the advanced options and other interfaces in Office 2007 under Wine. [URL]... when I type in some text in word, the default font (Calibri - Size 11) at 100% zoom looks awful. Here is the comparison of Linux with Windows7: [URL]... I would like to mention here that I have excellent font rendering in other native Linux applications like Firefox and Open Office. I know that users of Ubuntu and LinuxMint do not face this issue... I have seen many video and screenshots where the installation on Linux looks as good as that on Windows. Additionally, I was going through some of the treads on this forum and I realised this was an OpenSuse centric issue. Subpixel Hinting Packages (Ubuntu Lucid Patches) are now available for 11.3.
I've got a Wine question.. I've searched around for this.. but have only found how to make wine fonts smoother with anti-aliasing.
But my problem is that Images, when they are resized in Wine applications they won't get resized smoothly, the images gets pixly and does not look good at all.. Good example of this is Spotify.
I don't know if it's just my system, but after applying the latest Wine update, the mouse cursor in Wine windows is now purple/magenta/pink, whatever. Not a big problem, just annoying. I've looked through the various config files in ~home and /usr/share/wine, and can't find any parameter that might even remotely address this.

Yesterday I installed wine-1.2 (using Synaptic), in order to be able to build programs for Windows. This in itself seemingly succeeded, but as a result of the installation, fonts in Firefox changed (one can say immediately - when the installation was done, the fonts had changed).
For example, in this forum, the non-monospaced font changed in some way I can't put my finger on. Right now, posts feel less readable, but getting used to it may just be a question of time.
Some other pages (in existing tabs, and when looking them up again) changed the font size, some increased the size, some decreased it. This can be fixed by using Ctrl-+ or Ctrl-- quite easily, but <whine> I would like these kind of changes not to happen at all </whine>.
I uninstalled wine (not removed completely - I don't know what the difference is), but this didn't undo the font change.
The font settings within Firefox (Preferences) don't seem to have been changed.
The point of this post is to ask what may have happened, where such dependencies between fonts are stored, and how to undo the change, in case I'd like to.
i always run updates if i get prompted about it... this time i ran a couple or so updates and software updates and restarted, i realise my VirtualBox and Wine isn't running at all... i click on the icons but nothing fires up.. all my programs on Wine seem to fall under the same issue...

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.

The font settings are all serif and sans serif in both the system fonts settings and firefox settings.
I am using ubuntu 9.10.
Any idea why this could be happening?
I would like to use the Adobe Garamond Pro in my text doccument in open office writer. I got a text document where from a friend where it is used so I know that it can. But when I want to edit I cant find it in the fonts dropdown menu.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.
How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?
I updated to Lucid and it works great except for the programs installed on Wine. They still appear on the menu but will not launch.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.
I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost

View 4 Replies View RelatedSony currently only supplies its NEX cameras with .exe binary firmware updates. Prior to purchasing the camera, I installed Wine and was able to execute the .exe. Of course, that doesn't guarantee that it'll work. Now, with the camera in hand, I actually tried to update the firmware. It didn't work. I tried using Wine 1.1.28 and 1.3.3 and even the cloned the Wine repository with git and compiling Wine with USB patches I found here: [URL] (Wine git, compile and install found here: USB - The Official Wine Wiki)
With the camera connected, I was able to use "wineconsole cmd" to open a dos shell. In the shell, I was able to see that the D: drive (which I assigned to /media/disk) was correctly accessing the camera as a mass storage device. I can only conclude that USB support works. However, it doesn't appear to work for updating the firmware. The firmware program from Sony searches for about a minute and doesn't find the camera. When I run the firmware updater with Wine, Wine produces these files:

The .dat file looks most likely to be the data I want to dump to the camera, but how? (I've done some research and have read that the data is probably encrypted.)

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust sharing some progress with font instalation in fedora 10, because there is no more support to xfs or chkfontpath. Take a look at /etc/fonts/fonts.conf, in the beginning of this file you can find:

To install true type fonts, just throw your fonts in one of these directories. You can put it in your own home if you want (~/.fonts). With this, you can install any fonts, like windows fonts, mscorefonts ... Don't forget to restart X and test with fc-list.
I just installed Fedora 13 x86_64 using default settings (after not using Linux for few years), everything went well, but the following question bugs me: All fonts used by Fedora GUI on my LCD (1680x1050 native resolution) seem a bit blurred, stretched, not as crisp as displayed by Windows on the same LCD, and also worse than what I see on my Mac notebook. Fedora fonts use more screen pixels and at the same time provide lower subjective quality, it hurts perception of the whole system . I wonder if it's a general problem with Fedora fonts quality, or I can tweak it somehow to get more aesthetically pleasing results.
