View 3 RepliesI am running 10.04 and I have a serious problem with the Open office menus and tool bars, as you can see from the screenshot, they are corrupted. I have tried totally removing and re-installing Oo, but with no joy.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIn the default version of Open Office (3.1) packaged with Karmic I notice that a lot of common fonts eg, Times New Roman etc, are missing. How do I add all these common fonts?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm having sporadic issues with the openoffice.org program. Sometimes, power point presentations will crash the program and then I can't open any open office programs without rebooting the computer. The problem seems to be just with powerpoint files and I'm not sure what the issue could be.

Microsoft's Uniscribe (usp10.dll) actually does not, neither in Windows XP nor in Windows 7. Will say is it possible to display complex scriptures like Devanagari, Avestan, Arabic etc. in Open Office Writer 3.1.1 via Fedora 12?
2. Is there any feature in Fedora 12 to build one's own Keyboard Layouts (like Microsoft's, Keyboard Layout Creator which isn't able to create Keyboard Layouts using Unicode Ranges bigger than U+ffff)?
I m using debian and there is some bug " KDE Crash handler " what types of commands involved in this process and where to install ?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just checked [Mar. 12, 2010 16h:00 EDT], there is no update in the (Canonical) channel for Open Office. I regularly download updates both automatically as well as manually, Yet my current version is:
OpenOffice 3.1.1
OOO310m19 (Build:9240).
On my mac OSX 10.6.2, I already have 000320m12 (Build:9483).
Why is Canonical taking so long to place the newer version in the channel? My reason for seeking the update is to try and resolve a problem that I have just noticed today. I have not needed to print envelopes since January, and now I find that printing envelopes on my HP C4345 multifunction no longer works as before.
Instead of putting the output on the RIGHT side (where the envelope is fed), OO is consistently sending the output to the LEFT side (easily confirmed by placing a standard letter size sheet in place of the #9 envelope, which (the latter) invariably comes out as "blank" (no print on it).
I am hoping that an update will resolve this issue before I resort to submitting a bug report.
I am using Ubuntu Hardy via the Dell Mini. Quite awhile ago I upgraded my OO to the newest lpia version I could find...I cannot recall, but I did it "manually" by adding the launchpad repository etc.
Yesterday I noticed that my update manager was flashing at me and telling me I had updates and so I let it update. Afterwards I noticed that my Open Office would not work...in fact it was almost as if it was uninstalled. It was nowhere to be found. So, I thought maybe my update got messed up and I ran it again with update manager - no changes. reinstall OO. I first tired "Add/Remove" and I got an error as soon as I clicked on the box next to the suite: "This application conflicts with other installed software. conflicting software must be removed...switch to Synaptic" When I mark OpenOffice.org for intsallation I get the pop up for "Mark additional required changes" which I say yes too and then another error:
"Could not mark all packages for installation or upgrade. The following packages have unresolvable dependencies. Make sure all required repositories are added and enabled in the preferences"
It then lists about 10 packages such as "openoffice.org-base....-calc....-filter-binfilter etc etc
I know I have the repositories chosenand I believe they are enabled:

I have a user who rather stupidly attempted to upgrade his Jaunty to 10.04 - half way thru, he got fed up and rebooted. I managed to get his machine to boot up with most apps working except OOfice. He gets an error OpenOffice.org 3.1 Fatal Error - the application cannot be started. The component manager is not avaiable. How can I solve this? I've tried to re-install / upgrade to 10.04 using an install dvd but I don't want to remove all the settings which it seems to want to do . It wants to either install 'side by side' or 'erase and use all the disk'. I would be happy to upgrade assuming it fixes the openoffice problem.
Alternatively, how can I repair the openoffice problem?
Just last week I upgraded to F14. Just today I did the latest yum upgrade, and it included an update on Open Office. (1) I now have Open Office 3.3.0 OOO330m14 (Build:9542). According to the OO Web site, version 3.3.0 is still beta!!! 3.2.1 is still the stable release for download. What is Fedora doing? But that's just a general question; here are some specifics. Printing is virtually broken.
(2) Just opening the File -> Print window takes almost 5 seconds. The blue bar along the bottom of the window shoots across 8 times!! I'm hoping this is not the price paid for the new feature of having an unreadable copy of page 1 appear on the left side of the "Print" window!
(3) The "Properties" button is definitely broken. Click it and select the "Device" tab. I set "Printer Quality" to "Draft Grayscale." Then suppose I print 5 pages. Then I want to print the next 5 pages. The Print Quality is back to Normal! And that's without even closing the document, much less closing OO. Closing OO should save the printer settings for a document. But printing two times in a row without closing the document should definitely preserve the settings I make. It doesn't.
(4) Under System -> Administration -> Printing, I set the print quality for the printer to Draft. That also is completely ignored by OO.
(5) In OO Tool -> Options -> Load/Save I have checked "Load printer settings with the document." That should surely imply that when you save a document, the printer settings are saved with it. They either are not or they are not loaded or they are ignored.
(6) When I select the page numbers to print, that is so slow, the numbers don't even appear the instant I type them. That blue bar across the bottom of the window keeps shooting across until all the numbers finally appear.
(7) Under System -> Administration -> Printing there are two driver choices for HP Officejet 5600: hpijs and hpcups. Neither makes any difference for this behavior.
(8) I have several printers. Not even the printer I selected for doing the printing is preserved from one set of 5 pages to the next.
Who has ruined everything? Fedora or Open Office? On a more practical level, any ideas? Am I missing something? I've used OO with Fedora for years. None of this ever happened before. I NEVER had to select the printer and reset printer quality EVERY TIME I printed without closing a document. Plus, for any new document, the printer quality options in OO would be set to what I specified in System -> Administration -> Printing.
OK, So whenever I need to read or write a text file, I'd always use text editor, And therefore and no need for the big and bulky open office, But now that I've un-installed it, It keeps popping up in update manager.
Is their anyway to stop receiving updates for it?
Im seeing this problem (see screenshot) while running gtk apps. the letters are occasionally corrupted and merged together

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just found out about Libre Office. I am currently using Open Office on my Netbook (ubuntu 10.10), and NeoOffice on my Macbook (OS/X 10.6.7).
QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?
FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.
I have both installed, but since LO is going to be the way Ubuntu goes for office applications, can I easily have my system setup for native LO? Native being if I double clock on a .doc file it will start up LO's Write program instead of OO.Will just removing OO achieve this or is there an easier way? I looked for file associations and didn't find it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSometime ago I realized my Open Office had changed, I don't remember having done anything in particular but today it isn't the regular open office but what I believe is a KDE version or idk. The theme changed and instead of regular menus I get "window" menus, in the sense that they get effects as regular windows. It's hard to explain it.

I tried uninstalling it and installing open office and also in the soft center open office is more than once, but I tried the different versions and I still get the same problem.
I noticed that the fonts for Office 2007 look shabby. I am not taking about anti-aliasing or subpixel hinting; but the general appearance of the applications in not even close to what I am used to in Windows. I'll show what I mean through some screen shots below. The text for different options in the ribbon looks awful. Compare this with windows and the text is clearly legible.
Same goes for the advanced options and other interfaces in Office 2007 under Wine. [URL]... when I type in some text in word, the default font (Calibri - Size 11) at 100% zoom looks awful. Here is the comparison of Linux with Windows7: [URL]... I would like to mention here that I have excellent font rendering in other native Linux applications like Firefox and Open Office. I know that users of Ubuntu and LinuxMint do not face this issue... I have seen many video and screenshots where the installation on Linux looks as good as that on Windows. Additionally, I was going through some of the treads on this forum and I realised this was an OpenSuse centric issue. Subpixel Hinting Packages (Ubuntu Lucid Patches) are now available for 11.3.
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I've been running Ubuntu or a variant for about a year now and suddenly every now and then one or two of my documents (open office or pdfs) have no information and they won't open.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I open an open office document from an NFS share it always opens as readonly. This was a problem I had on Arch linux and the fix was to change the locking options in the soffice script but I've tried that fix here and it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of discussions but they all go back to changing the locking options in soffice, has anyone got any alternative fixes or one that definitely works with locking?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been on the open office site, and tried several different downloads for Open Office 3.2. However, once I unpack the gzipped file, I get several deb packages from within the archive. Could someone kindly point me to a link where I can d/l a single deb package so I may easily install / (upgrade to)version 3.2? FWIW, I am using Karmic with the latest updates and OO ver. 3.1.1 on my netbook.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just ran an update of ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 and now the "startup" splash and the login splash is gone. Instead I see the terminal during bootup and the login prompt is some strange sparse login screen looking like it was taken from some old CDE GUI. What has happened and how do I fix it?
I can also add that while upgrading I chose to let the menu.lst remain untouched which turned out to be a bad mistake. So I added the following lines manually to compensate for my mistake.
But that didn't resolve my problems. I also tried the following without success:
After loging myself out and pressning ALT+F1/ALT+F7...
I'm running RHEL 5.3 on one box at work; after the initial installation, the console font was fine (although it was visible in only one of two monitors: dual-head was configured automatically). After the first yum upgrade (which brought in dozens of packages), the console font became almost unusable. At first I can log in (say, on TTY1), but after the next few keystrokes every blank part of the display is changed to a capital G with a caret. Also, stdout (in some cases) is in an unreadable (for me, cyrillic maybe?) font. (And now the same - corrupted - display is visible in both monitors) I can't find the command to choose another console font. Looked in the "system-config*" type scripts to no avail

If Open Office had any problems saving in different file formats than the open format (which I know it doesn't have problems with) and rtf (which I know it does). I have to use it for school and I do not want to lose things like bullets, numbering and especially not information when saving in Microsoft Word formats.
