View 1 RepliesI've just installed Fedora 14 64bit and would like to add new repositories. I read here to do the following command (which as you can see doesn't works) :
Code:
$ su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm'

I have installed F14 yesterday but i can not install rpmfusion repository, the problem is that i can not access the url [URL] so i cant download the files:
rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm

Anyways could someone tell me what the default the default sources.list that has free and non free etc for squueze please? I have been trying to get the default list but I cannot find it anywhere. There are alot of lists out there but nothing tagged like the "default" list.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a question on free disk space. I'm currently running CentOS 5.5 on in Xenserver virtual environment. We've had an issue with disk space. My question is as follows: - from a ssh connection i run df -h this gives the value of 90% used leaving me with 9GB. If I use system monitor via a VNC connection the free disk space value is 20GB free on the same volume. Which one is correct? I do use SNMP to monitor the same volume and should alert me when < 10% is free I know this works as I set the alert threshold to < 90% I get an alert.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk so was looking through a guide and stumbled on this: ppc --> 32-bit, compatible with all Macintosh computers (excluding Intel Macs) and the PlayStation 3. Does this mean that if I have some old Macs (G3s) to be precise I could put Fedora on it? Does this involve a whole lot of hacking or not?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm facing this problem since a month on Fedora 10. I have some 45 packages for upgrade through KPackageKit which belong to KDE.
While I give it to upgrade, it gives me a strange message which says
Multiple packages exist that are not compatible with each other.
This is usually due to mixing packages from different software sources.
When I press the details button, I get these details.
ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve:
libkwalletbackend.so.4 is needed by kdebase-runtime-4.2.0-7.fc10.i386
Please report this error at [URL]
I get this message only for the KDE packages. I have libkwalletbackend.so.4 in my /usr/lib directory.
After yum -y update I get this at the end of the process. What should I do, have no idea...is it mandatory to erstart with right kernel for each package?

I have a Dell PowerEdge 840 that has no sound card. I would like to install a completely compatible sound card. I have not been able to find any recommendations for compatible sound cards on these forums, but I have learned that the C-Media chipset is supposed to be well-supported by Linux. There are C-Media sound cards on e-bay for under $10. I was considering a 6ch c-media 5.1 surround sound 3D PCI sound card. I believe the chipset is CM8738. Does anyone know whether this card is supported in F12? Or does anyone care to share any recommendations for sound cards that are known to be compatible with Fedora 12?
My intention is to be able to install a decent, inexpensive, commodity sound card that is known to be compatible with Fedora 12. I would prefer to purchase and install one that I know works rather than guessing and then fiddling with it forever and asking a lot of questions that could have been avoided.
Surprisingly, this information has been very hard for me to find. I understand that there is no Fedora hardware compatibility list, but it seems that a very brief list of hardware that is know to be compatible with the most recent release or two of Fedora could save a lot of time and resources. The purpose of such a brief list wouldn't necessarily be to see if a certain piece of hardware is compatible, but to find a component that is know to be compatible, so as to easily be able to get a completely functional system up and running.
I'm a new Fedora convert. I installed core 13 x86_64 and everything seems to be working fine. The default drivers auto-detected my dual monitors and set up an extended desktop, with the correct resolution. I do not, however, have 3D support, and the proprietary driver from ATI's website will not build. I have the ATI Radeon HD 5770. It says that my distro isn't compatible. Is this true? Do I have no 3D support options.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been searching for a while for a program to convert .flac files I rip off of cd's with my laptop (running Fedora 11) to a usable iTunes format for my desktop (running Win XP). The cd drive on my desktop is currently broken, so my fix of ripping on my desktop, then using Rhythmbox on my laptop is temporarily unavailable.
Any suggestions? I've tried audiokonverter, soundconverter, audio-convert-mod and each come up with errors or wouldn't install.
Title pretty much says it all. I was working fine this morning on f15. Did an update and am now getting the above message. Have no internet access from affected machine. Running "NetworkManager" or "systemctl enable NetworkManager.service" does not fix the issue. Anyone else get this today? I know there was a similar known bug during pre-release.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent update of fedora 15 (2 days ago) I lost my networkmanager icon in top panel completely. Then I check network manager version & found it's version 0.8.0.9997-5.git20110702. After this update I can't connect to internet by any means either via wired or wireless connection. When I try to open Network option from system settings it giving me an error: System network services are not compatible with this version.
I also try to open network-connection-editor by pressing Alt+F2 & typing:
nm-connection-editor
But it not works as well, I can't see any existing network connection there, moreover I can't even manually add any type of network connection there including mobile broadband! Then I do some googling from my windows machine & found this thread- [URL]. According to this thread I try to do downgrading of following 3 packages-
Code:
networkmanager
networkmanager-glib
networkmanager-gnome
But I can't downgrade via yumex as there's no internt connection in fedora. so i do a trick of myself. yumex suggests me to downgrade them to previous version 0.8.0.999-2.git20110509
so i manually download those 3 packages from my windows machine & copy them to /var/cache/yum/... folder. After that I do downgrading via yumex. But even after downgrading problem isn't solved. Same things happening still. No networkmanager icon in top panel & no internet
at present, there's no internet connection in my fedora 15 machine & I'm writing this post from my windows machine.
Moreover when I give this command in terminal:
Code:
sudo service network start
it giving me FAILED status.
Did fedora 11 compatible to Geforce 95GT super? or did fedora 11 compatible to mother board SuperMicro X8SIE? bcoz I cant install my Video card.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAm I asking too much for a FREE OS? Everybody spend their precious time to help others, that's very helpful. But it seems like there is no support from UBUNTU team, how could we even get through the barrier of not using Microsoft's OSes? No free lunch of course, but it seems to me some issues have never really been solved.I read lot's of people have problem with their WIFI, not just for my OLD USB wifi adapter. I don't have problem with WIFI in XP/Server.
I posted here and there, and seems like no answer, and I do not get any reply from UBUNTU support team, forgive me if I run out of google's keywords.I just need a simple answer, is my WIFI going to work in UBUNTU with a layman effort? I like linux and UBUNTU had put great effort in providing me such a great OS, but if a basic internet connection will need to spent sooo much time to setup, and it still doesn't work. IS IT WORTH to switch to UBUNTU at all
I bought a laptop equipped with a 3DSPwireless network adapter, but I did not get a compatible driver, the one which I found on the company website (which is in Mandarin, I do not understand) seems to only work on a specific version kernel in ubuntu. This week, I came in contact with the support of 3DSP and got some sources to compile, but gives some errors, and I do not have much experience to solve them alone. Look at the output:

Just installed FC13 on old laptop, (had FC11). Wifi card is recognized, but won't work. Instead of messing with ndiswrapper, etc., I am looking for a list of compatible cards or chipsets for cards that work with FC13. Anyone know where I can find such a thing? Or, can anyone recommend a specific card that works right out of the box with FC13? Need a cardbus card, PCI, not a USB.

i had got an external USB modem, infact any indian would know that Reliance has this Net Connect which they give by which we can surf through the net. Although fedora is detecting this i dont know as to how i can browse the net using this since all the files are in .exe format which is only compatible with windows.

I have install windows XP and Fedora-14-X86_64 on dual boot, I want to run other OS on fedora by using Virtual machine. I have download and installed VirtaulBox-4.0.0 successfully but I cannot able to start it. I got error about Vbox driver not installed [error code:1908]. I have also installed DKMS package, but also didn't work.
Finally I found the actual problem was kernel not compatible with latest version of vbox and I need to update my kernel-headers. I also meet that solution by using command: yum install binutils gcc make patch libgomp glibc-headers glibc-devel kernel-headers kernel-devel and its work fine, this command download and install the kernel compatible VirtualBox-3.2.* and now its works fine.
But problem is that when I booting my PC, it shows 3 options for entering OS rather then 2.
1. Fedora-14 (2.6.35.10.74.X86_64) [which is new one/updated after using that command]
2. Fedora-14 (2.6.35.6.45fc14.X86_64) [which is new one/updated after using that command]
3. Other [windows XP]
How can i delete that old version- No.2?
I've just recently installed the latest version of fedora on my machine. I already had win7 64-bit so I did a dual boot with the Fedora live CD using the "use largest amount of free space option"(I had intentionally left 30GB of unallocated space). The problem though is that fedora just keeps_crashing, at any point and very randomly. I didn't have this problem with ubuntu. Fedora can crash right after I initiate the boot sequence, or it can wait until the booting process starts, or the login screens shows up, sometimes it even lets my use the OS but invariably crashes. I've done numerous hard reboots which only seemed to worsen the matter, now I can barely get past login screen. This issue also happened on the live CD, but with perseverance I got fedora running on my computer.
There's an error message that shows up for a second or two right before the boot sequence is initiated, luckily(!) the system crashed at the moment it was showing and I was able to write it down :
pci 0000:01:00.0 : no compatible bridge window for [mem 0xfffe0000-0xffffffff pre f]
Here are my specs:
Intel p965 chipset (i heard this one didn't work well in previous fedora releases, maybe this is the problem?)
4GB DDR2 Ram
nVidia 8600 GTS graphic card
HDA Intel Integrated Soundcard
Intel core 2 duo E6400 processor.
I have a laptop with ATI mobility 2400, and ralink wireless, I have not very experience with linux, I have tried many live-cds, ubuntu, opensuse, gentoo, fedora and all crash if I don't boot with the aditional option "clocksource=jiffies", i'm thinking of trying fedora 11 x64 but my main concern is about my ATI mobility VGA, in windows i need to install modded driver as original catalyst are not compatible with my system.
